Mine is easy.
I traded Sega CD Snatcher and Saturn Chase H.Q./S.C.I import for Yawara for Turbo Duo.
Probably dumber in hindsight is the time I traded my Turbografx 16 and almost 30 games for a new copy of Turtles in Time.
But that was the first/last time I ever traded in to a store without knowing what I was doing.
Back in fourth grade, I traded Super NES Street Fighter II for Final Fight on a loan, then the kid moved with SFII.
I'm still mildly bummed about that.
My brother and I used to trade our old SMS and genesis games at the swap-meet for new stuff. I wish I still had a lot of that stuff around.
My best trade was borrowing Phantasy Star IV from my friend's brother and never giving it back. My worst trade was my college roommate stealing my Final Fantasy 3 SNES cart from me. There is a trend here.
Traded a PSX with Xenogears for a Neo Geo AES with Sam Sho 2 and last resort when the Neo scene was still commanding stupid money.
That sounds like a really good trade.
Depending on the time, that may not have been a bad trade, but considering what playstations go for now compared to neo geos, yeah. Ouch.

When I was young and broke my Game Gear I gave away all my games. A few years ago I gave away all my NES games because I didn't want to bother with moving it all again.

5th grade i traded my genesis, for a turbografix that turns out barely worked. ruined a friendship.
My dumb purchases were mostly situations where I bought one thing and really should have bought another. Particularly with the Saturn, strangely enough. I bought all the fighting games, and most of the Sega games, but despite my local EB having it for a LONG time, I never picked up Panzer Dragoon Saga or Burning Rangers. I knew about them, and I really wanted Saga. I'll get it next time, I can pick up 3 used games for that $50!
A little later, I discovered that Buy Rite had a retail store about an hour away, and since I didn't have a credit/debit card yet it was my only source of imports. I'd go in, look at the wall and they had pretty much everything. I remember one time I saw they had Radiant Silvergun, and I heard it was good, but I bought Real Bout FF instead. Later, I had it in my hands looking at it, and they were clearing it out for $30. I bought the KOF collection instead. Those SNK ports are both worthless for resale now, and I don't particularly care for the ports now that I have real Neo systems. Now I want all those shooters and the pricing is ridiculous.

When the Saturn had that surprise launch I was 14 and I went nuts wanting one. A few months later I talked my parents into letting me trade in most of my video game collection at the time so I could go grab a Saturn and whatever games I wanted.
I boxed up my entire collection. All my systems were complete in box and in near perfect condition. They included Master System 2, Genesis 1, Sega CD top loader, 32X and a Game Gear (The GB pocket was the only system and games I kept) plus around a dozen CiB accessories for all the systems. I also brought along all my games for those systems (except GG, some of those went to my siblings), which included damn near every RPG and Strategy game you could think of. I had almost all the Working Designs Sega CD games, every Phantasy Star and Shining Force, Snatcher, etc. All in I brought along around 80 games (all CiB). My dad drove me to the local EB and I was offered less than half the Sega Saturn's total cost in trade. This seemed absurd to me even at the time so I reluctantly told them no way and carried all the boxes back to the car. A couple of days later I found out about a local chain store that I had never been to so we packed it all up again and made our way to that side of town. That store offered me enough for a new system with an extra controller and 2 extra games. After my trip to EB this seemed like a fantastic deal. My dad tried to talk me out of it but I wouldn't listen.
I was bummed just a couple of months later when I was bored with my 3 games.
32x pricing has jumped a bit in the past year or so, especially if it has the box since those boxes were even shittier than Nintendo cardboard. Still, I calculated what I thought the games were worth individually and didn't come close to that final price.Quote:
