oh are they now.
Just got back from Civil War, which I liked, but I liked Dawn of Justice better. Go figure.
Just watched this bore of a movie, it is bad. 2/3 of the movie sucked, the last 1/3 is decent, but that's probably because they bored you to death in the beginning. The whole movie felt very disjointed, and the whole Lex setup is unconvincing and the resolution is even worse with Martha or whatever the name is. Lex sucks too, except for that one courtroom scene (where he is not in it). Eisenberg would be a better Joker than Lex.
Yeah, I really don't see how anyone can defend this thing. I thought Man of Steel was fine/good but this was something else entirely.
No one's motivations made any sense. Why is Batman branding bad guys? And more importantly why on earth is having a batman brand grounds to immediately get shiv'd in prison? It's supposed to be the entire reason Supes is pissed and it's nonsense.
I also don't really buy Batman's motivation, but that's more of a shortsighted, knee-jerk reaction that the worlds greatest detective shouldn't be making. We get it, all of that destruction was pretty ridiculous but come on, dude was clearly saving the entire planet.
The Bruce Wayne stuff was good, so I'm hopeful for the Affleck movie. I continue to have zero faith in Snyder.
Batman is branding because he's angry in this darker DC universe. Why that's getting people killed in prison? I don't know. It doesn't make sense and it's completely unnecessary. I didn't have a problem with Batman's motivation as this spin on Superman is clearly different than Miller's in that Superman, though saving the world, also brought about the death of thousands and the destruction of Gotham which Batman has been protecting for twenty years. That didn't happen in Miller's take on this epic battle. The unexplained dream sequences and Lex bothered me most. I thought Affleck was very good as an older Batman.
That being said, I think a lot less of this film after watching it a 2nd time. The 3rd will be watching the extra 30 minutes in the ultimate edition.
I agree with Hao. I think Bats feels that it's not acceptable to sacrifice so many people for the greater good. I understood it as him having decided after Robin's death that some sacrifices were too great, and Supes' battle with Zod was like, OVER 9,000 in that regard for him. How the branding motivates Supes is total BS though.
Okay that still doesn't explain anything.
Also they blew up Metropolis in Man of Steel, not Gotham. There just happened to be a Wayne Enterprises building there.
And obviously the idea behind Batman's motivation was supposed to be "don't sacrifice lives for the greater good", but that's not a judgement you make on someone that's defending the entire world from an unstoppable attacker. Superman spends every other waking hour going out of his way to save lives. For Batman (especially an older, hopefully wiser Batman) to jump to these conclusions and say "yeah but in that one earth shattering catastrophe where he was the sole defender of our entire planet, the ensuing fight cost us some lives so I have to stop him" is dumb.
And yeah, I guess we're supposed to accept it partially because Lex was manipulating him but that's also dumb.
I am not impressed by the new Batmobile Jeep Renegade. BvS is not the only guilty party, but the product placement took me right out of the movie.
Gotham is just across the river. Close enough.
I don't know - it seems the biggest criticism of Man of Steel (which, to me, is the best Superman movie ever made) is "that wasn't Superman, because he wouldn't have fought Zod in the city and killed thousands of people". You don't think that in today's world Supes wouldn't have faced that criticism from a select group of people? Having just watched (last night) the Ultimate edition, the branding deaths were explained far better than the original film. Even the desert setup was explained better. Batman might be the smartest super hero ever, and that's part of his appeal, but so is his darker side when emotions get the best of him.
Batman accused Superman of fear - the irony is that fear (of what Superman might be capable of) is part of.
Also, there are swiss cheese sized holes in nearly every super hero movie.
