I've been here for five minutes, for the first three nothing was happening at all just a title screen. Then a 2v2 started and two rounds in a row the characters stood there while the time counted down and then it back to the Salt's Dream Cast Casino screen. oh, now it's showing the 2v2 doing nothing again.

You came in on them trying to switch to 2v2 fights. Before this it has been nonstop fun.
Also, you can only bet for 30 seconds before the match so the odds and payout can be calculated

Yeah right now Salty is setting up deliberate matches and setting them to appropriate music. It's been pretty random before. Sometimes music will come on that's just too convenient to what's going on, I imagine there are times that Salty is at the helm

Mexican DBZ is the safest bet in the game. Seriously, they do one shot kills against almost everything and take almost no damage. Every single other DBZ is a stupid bet.
Other super safe bets: Killer Whale, Giant Peep, Crazy hands, almost anything "evil" and Ronald McDonald all varieties.

I just watched this hilarious match with Ultimate Captain America vs Chaka from Jojo. Cap totally mopped the floor with him, the chat was lighting up with "USA USA USA" and "AND I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN", meanwhile the people that bet on Chaka were all "thanks Obama" :lol:
The hype this site makes from bad AI fighting randoms is incredible. Lightning in a bottle IMO.

I used to be into MUGEN back in the day....like REALLY into it. After a while one would learn that there were certain "creators" that always created quality characters. It would either be a recreation of an established character with [mostly] accurate hitboxes, frames, and velocities, or an original character that was designed well enough to be right at home on a commercial fighting game. Certain creators were even well known just for creating good AI routines, as a large portion of enthusiasts simply just did CPU battles like this site is doing. There were also people who were sought after for creating quality backgrounds. If you messed around with MUGEN enough, you'd eventually recognize when a character or background was designed by a certain creator, as there were always tell-tale signs of his or her workmanship. I still recognize some of the backgrounds and characters on the site. I even attempted to create my own works, but never had the time or patience to do anything noteworthy. Even though there WERE quality characters out there, 95% of them truly were garbage, especially characters with "God", "Evil" "Rare" in their names, or anything DBZ related.
I left the community many years ago, as like most things niche, it became popular, new users who didn't understand the established etiquette riled up the veterans, veterans developed egos and disdain from all the new users and starts flaming them, new users flamed back, and then hilarity ensues. Business as usual on the internet.
I still have MUGEN and about thousand characters in some dark, dusty, unvisited directory on my PC somewhere. Haven't fired it up in forever.

I'd like to get back into it, but I just found the tools awkward and finicky, and I'm not sure if I could really make the game I want with it.
Alter Amiba vs Ghetto Warmachine made me lose my shit.
I doubt it would work out, but one thing I would like to see in the future is the ability to place bets on the basis of how many rounds you think the fight will need on top of who will win. There would be a reduced payout for guessing the winner right but not the correct round count.
In other news, my wife has watched this a lot more than I have - enough to the point that I think I might get KOFXIII soon, since it seems to have rekindled her interest in the genre a fair amount.
It's rather amusing to me that I had something happen like yesterday where I saw Krusty fight for the first time and she told me that I should see Popeye.
I still love watching this and keeping this open when I browse. Unfortunately, the outcomes of matches are almost certain at this point, with characters repeating often enough for the bettors to know when there's a fraud character or OP Stats DBZ character. Rarely now does a fight beat established odds.
Still, things get hairy when Salty comes on and starts arranging fights himself. I think pruning the roster to remove horribly unfinished or stat fucked characters would benefit the whole experience.
I really really like this whole idea and hope he expands on it greatly.

I figure this thing has a shelf life of relevance for a month. Might as well make the most of it.
biggest issue right now is that he's loading not only the UI data but the betting info in one ajax request/json object every 2-3 seconds, which combined with 6000 concurrent viewers/betters means hundreds of thousands of hits per minute... if he loaded them separately request load and therefore request time would probably go way down
also maybe knock the better list on the side to the top 50 betters for each player (or even have it on-demand via ajax rather than loading the whole list for everybody) would decrease the data amount on each json request

It has run at normal speed at all times in my experience.
I have never once had the page load for me.
It's always been in fast forward for me when it's the computers, then regular speed when real players are on.
