A Genesis classic is getting a makeover for the 3DS, according to Silconera. It's being ported by Starfish and will have improved visuals, 3D (duh) and balanced difficulty (Read: it'll be easier for today's gamer).

I love and own the original, so if this is a download game or a budget release, I'll definitely buy it.
Starfish must feel the need to trot this out once a decade, it's been about ten years since the GBA version. I'd love to see a shooter like Border Down or Thunder Force 4 on 3DS but honestly Steel Empire could look hot with generous 3D background scrolling.
Almost makes me want to get the 3DS. One thing I love in the Genesis version is all the smoking wreckage- hopefully they bump the destruction up a bit more.

Not sure, when G.Rev brought Kokuga west it was $15 instead of the original $40 retail.
The Sega 3D Classics are underpriced, which is going to make this one's price a tougher fit I'll bet. Compared to the laziness of the Virtual Console titles and their prices, Sega's offerings should at least be $9.99, not that I am complaining about them being $5.99.
Did this game invent steampunk? This is the first steampunk piece of culture I ever witnessed.
I guess maybe one could consider Return to Oz (the movie) steampunk, also?

That reminds me of The Eidolon, that great old Lucasfilm game made with the Rescue on Fractalus engine. That was definitely steampunk.
