Synesthesia
I'm curious, does anyone here have or is interested in synesthesia (the involuntary combining of senses)?
The most common type seems to be grapheme -> colour where the person perceives letters and numbers to have their own colours.
Lexical -> gustatory is where hearing certain words evoke specific tastes in the mouth.
I have spatial sequence synesthesia where I perceive sequences such as calendar days or months as occupying physical space around me (which probably sounds crazy if you don't have it but apparently it's good for helping to accurately recall events).
I found this picture to give an idea. It's not the same pattern I have but it's the same concept.

I find it fascinating. I read about it for weeks a couple years back, it should be classified as "totally bitchin" and not a disorder. I would kill to have grapheme synesthesia.

Just play rez. You'll get your synesthesia kick in.

That's like trying to get high by watching Up In Smoke.

I have Mirror Touch synesthesia. I get that feeling only when I have a connection with that person. Like when Walt was being choked by Jessie in Breaking Bad. I actually felt my neck get squeezed. I started to suffocate. If I watch a Football game ... nothing. I don't know them personally. If I see a co-worker bang their head my head hurts.
I could never quite understand it ...

Probably not the same thing but I have smell memory. Certain smell combinations remind me of previous events, places or people.
Some documentary said that it was uncommon, but I don't know if I believe them. I imagine almost everyone TNL can remember things via smell. Its probably just a matter of paying attention.

I can see sound. Sometimes it is shapes that could exist in three dimensions, sometimes I see sights that could not possibly exist, like something being a cylinder and a cube at the same time.
It actually really helps with my work as a sound man.

Music looks like a squiggly black line that loops over and over on itself.
It's very hard to explain.

I generally see sound and hear vision in my minds eye, but i don't think that's true synesthesia. For example, I don't truly "see" music existing around me in space, but its instantly and involentarily visual in my head. Generally my visual memory of music is significantly stronger than the aural memory and i think about music visually when i'm writing it. This is true for all sound, but music is generally where I notice it more.
One time on psychadelics, I ate a lollipop, and all of my senses started fluidly mixing and tangling with each other. It was one of the strangest experiences i've ever had. My vision was obstructed with the intensity of the flavour, and not only could i taste the color purple, but at one stage i could taste the word "purple".

I have it to the nth degree, in fact, at times it can be somewhat overwhelming. I would say the most obvious is the words/numbers corresponding to colors, but seeing music is very effortless for me and has fueled many works of my own art. It is extremely hard to explain, but music will create environments I can freely maneuver in (if I let it "run wild" I could explain it closely to a lucid dream....sorta.) The environments, depending on the song, are very vivid and specific, and I've come to affectionately refer to them as "Cities." The city term comes from a constant building of 3D rectangular shapes most frequently, but it can absolutely manifest in all sorts of colors and shapes. Also like lucid dreaming, I've taught myself to a certain degree to control and retain the visuals in order to translate them to visual art - but a lot of it is unexplored and I never know when a new song or piece of music will inspire something different!!!!
As far as I can tell it's similar to a psychedelic experience if I really let loose. I don't have the touch sensation ones though, mine are purely visual/spacial.
