I stopped reading published game reviews in the late '90's. I'm sure there are a few credible reviewers out there, but I just can't be bothered wading through all the crap.
Other than friends and people on this forum, I don't trust anyone's opinions on games, since I actually have some insight into the interests and bias of the source when it's someone I know.

I'm seriously at a point where I know what I will like and just buy it. I've been buying games since the late 1980's, I know what I am doing here. I'll read stuff afterwards or for games I'm not interested in, though.Quote:

So I guess there's no way to trigger the Alien for the first hour, as I was experimenting by running around as loudly as possible and it never showed up. That kind of kills the tension for the opening solitary sections.
In the second hour, you'll meet some friendly and hostile humans, which hurts the atmosphere of the game a bit. I guess if you liked Alien 3, it kind of gives off that Alien 3 vibe, with some humans being your friends and some being your enemies.
The Alien finally shows up in a cutscene at the end of that part, and then it's back to being all by your lonesome, which is the best part of the game so far. I am hoping that the Alien has been "let loose" into the game world now. I'll find out after dinner.
Also, I swear I heard a cat meowing off in the distance in the cargo terminal part, around the area where you get the door jack -- that was a nice nod to Alien.
Yeah so far this game can't seem to decide whether it wants to be Alien (you vs. the creature) or Alien 3 (you and the good humans vs. the bad humans vs. the creature).
It kind of sucks when it's being all Alien 3, but it's tense as hell when it's just you, the giant space ship, and the Alien. I haven't even seen the xeno yet outside of one cutscene and I'm still freaking out playing this, because you can hear it (or at least something) moving around a lot.
I love the *shit* out of Alien 3, so I don't see the problem here.
OH WOW so this is actually really great! I haven't been 'worried about proceeding' in a game since the very first Doom 3 playthrough so many years ago in the dark with headphones on, this has that kind of feeling down.
