Started Batman: AO the other night. Felt immediately familiar in a good way, and after a few hours it has the strongest start of the 3 games IMO (I'm not remembering exactly how Asylum started... nevermind, remembered as I typed that, still agree with statement). Everything looks real nice and feels even slightly more fluid and responsive than the others, to the point where I think I may actually get the freeflow achievement in this game. Im liking how quickly the story is moving along, and it feels like there's still a LOT of stuff to collect and side stuff to do, but I'm actually feeling compelled to do it this time (already did the Anarky mission line, taking out Enigma points as I unlock them instead of waiting until the end). I'll be interested to try the multi at some point, if anyone here has it on 360 and wants to jam then feel free to hit me up sometime. Realized that I'm pretty horrible at getting good combat scores when I could only get about 16000 points on the first challenge map. I don't want to use all my gadgets in EVERY fight, it's fun to just flip from hit to hit all over the room, but it's worth next to nothing, even with the freeflow bonus! :( I see this one being another that I'll finish once, maybe twice, and just get what I can get, I don't think 100% is realistic given the nature of all the cheevos vs. my desire to complete it fully.
Forgot about that Aqua game that Yoshi so generously gave me a code for (I think it was Yoshi, thanks!). It's... not terrible! It's nothing to write home about, but it's a nice little twin stick diversion for when you just want to play something for a while without thinking too much.
Popped in Fire Emblem: Awakening again, I left off on Chapter 11 after just leveling up for a while. Got 4 or 5 people leveled up with Master Seals, I like the way that works. Makes me feel bad about the characters I have sitting there at level 1 or 2 that maybe saw one fight (there are a LOT), but most battles don't let me choose more than a handful of characters and I'd rather just have my A team keep getting stronger. I had been using the Bonus Box to drop in a bunch of bonus teams before, gunna get back into the story now. Definitely one of my favorite games on 3DS.
Continuing Theatrhythm: FF, got all S ranks on Begginer and Expert in Challenge mode, started working on Ultimate Score. Unlocked 2 characters through the Chaos Shrine (23 Dark Notes in), trying to eventually unlock all of them, almost have 2 characters leveled up to 99, almost done with Series on Expert.
Still plugging away at Demon's Souls and NG+. Realized when I beat it last time I didn't actually play any of NG+, and I wasn't prepared for some of it! Went through 3-1 last night, killed everything (including Baby's Nail BP) and freed Freke, went to the boss and took out all the disciples, loaded up with Light Weapon and went in... not only did I not kill Fool's Idol in one flurry (like I PLANNED!), I got caught up in one of the signs on the floor and ate it hard. Haven't died at that boss since 2009-10, it was humbling. Got 2 more trophies for upgrading shit. Several to go, but I'm getting there.
Road Avenger. This game is NOT fucking around.
If the hardware I'm getting works out I'm going to start recording some of the old stuff I'm playing. Maybe some newer stuff, too.
Even if only Pineapple will watch and appreciate it, it'd be worth it.
My friend and I spent HOURS trying to get through Road Avenger. He eventually did it, but I never could beat it.
Then we found the code that plays through the whole thing on its own, and it didn't matter anymore.
I found it pretty easy because the moves are mostly logical. It's just a matter of memorizing the speed boosts/braking spots since the icons are too similar for the speed required in the last couple of scenes.
Pineapple! For Origins, it's really hard to get a decent combat score in the beginning without the shock gloves. When you get those and all the upgrades, you can turn them on in a fight sooner, they last longer and each hit adds 2 instead of one to the multiplier. The gloves knock down normal enemies in one hit so it supports easy punch n flip fighting.
I hopped into those first challenge rooms as I unlocked them and couldn't get close to the scores either. Wondered if I had gotten really terrible (I didn't), if they raised the bar for the medals (they did) or if I was missing something (I was).
I haven't played multi yet, lmk when you want to hunt and go seek.
Pineapple is Demon/Dark Souls' bitch. I never got too far in either game.
You don't really need to play others to get into it, but if you go by chronological order- MoC is Ys IV, so it would come after I & II but before III. If I had to rank one of the Ys titles on Steam first, it'd be Felghana.
'Fraid he is. Shame on Telenet for allowing Eants to spew that "visual novel from hell" drivel. :yuck: Valis X is globally detested and considered illegitimate. It needs to be "Crossed out" by Sunsoft and labeled non-canon.Quote:

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (PC): Sometimes, the boot is mightier than the sword. Punting a Black Guard soldier off the docks (he can't swim for shit and will drown) or sending Orcs tumbling off a cliffside precipice never gets old. Aside from that, there are so many clever envirokills here. Luring zombies into a plate-triggered spike trap sure made short work of them in one place. And then there are other ways to take enemies down that can be set by cutting/shooting out a rope.
Granada (Genesis & X68000): Very good on either system, each version having its advantages. The Genesis one lets you use the cannon recoil to zip through some spots faster and pull back from enemy fire, especially with the stage 2 powerup. Having cannon and strafe on two separate buttons is a good thing. Audiovisual presentation is generally better on X68000 (X68K MT32 MIDI for the win), but the cannon recoil is weaker. OTOH there's less slowdown and the post-stage cutscenes aren't bad. This version would've made a good 32X title.
3DS VC Link's Awakening. Pretty good! Appropriately bite-sized, a nice game to play after Link Between Worlds.
It screwed you right after going through the end maze? That's cruel.
I have been playing:
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon - After 2.5 or so hours, it's too early to tell if it's as good as the original but it's pretty charming so far. Hopefully it picks up in challenge a bit.
The Swapper - I haven't played far but I'm loving the atmosphere in this.
Spec Ops: The Line - I'm on Chapter 12 so I'm most of the way through. The shooting's getting a little repetitive but I'll play to the end to see if the story is everything it's hyped to be.
You are not the kind of guy who would be playing Project X Zone in the morning. But here you are.
You're in the Frank West chapter. It's set in a mall. The map is another empty square that seems needlessly big.
You're in the upper left of corner of the square. The farthest point away from you is a music store full of guitars. You move your cursor over them and see that the guitars are breakable. The music store is about forty squares away. Your most mobile character is Chun Li. Chun Li can move six squares at a time. It will take about seven turns to get there and another few to break everything. The emptiness separating you and the store is emblematic of the problem.
Committing to the trek would effectively remove one character - 25% of your resources - from the entire fight. You commit.
You are so overpowered that, even after forfeiting a character, you've accidentally killed almost everything before Chun Li gets to the music store. You have to stop attacking the last remaining enemy while Chun Li continues her slog. You've added about ten minutes to the battle so far. You tell yourself it's going to be worth it. You hypothesize as to what might be in those guitars. Maybe another EXP-multiplying accessory. Maybe another XP-multiplying accessory. EXP and XP being radically different things is emblematic of the problem. But this is going to be worth it.
You are able to break four or five guitars on the turn you finally arrive. None has anything in it. There is one left. It's eight squares away. It's going to take two more turns of letting the last enemy tee off on you to get it: one to close six squares of emptiness, and another to move two more and break it. You commit.
The enemy slides beside you without a walking animation and attacks without an attacking animation. You are running low on HP from the punching bag act. You have twenty-two healing items. You do not use them because everyone in your party can use XP (not EXP) to heal. That you accidentally have twenty-two healing items two hours into the game is emblematic of the problem. You use your XP and heal.
Two minutes later, you're moving Chun Li next to the last guitar. This one was especially out of the way, so it's going to be especially worth it. You press "Y" to break it. It makes a noise like a bible hitting a wet carpet.
There is nothing in the guitar. You close your 3DS. You realize you've been on the toilet breaking empty things on an empty map in an empty game for thirty-five minutes. You put the 3DS on the counter and flush. You feel a little older.
And that's why I gave up on RPGs after the Playstation 1.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to A Robot Bit Me again.
edit: Actually I probably should give myself rep for not cracking and buying that game.
I'm glad it had a demo. It saved me from wasting money on it.
The Namco inclusion saved me. If it were Sega X Capcom, I would have bought it no matter what. If it were Sega X Konami, I might have bought two copies.
It is without a doubt the worst SRPG I've ever played. It makes the computer virus that designs NIS games look like Julian Gollop.
That was beautiful, ARBM.
Blade & Soul - Up to level 25 or 26, game is still pretty good. Messed around with the mage a bit and this game sure is Tera 2, the mechanics are so crazy similar in a lot of ways.
Firefall - The latest patch is a pile of garbage and has turned the game into a small amount of haves and a lot of have-nots. Either you had everything maxxed out and had stockpiled a ton of resources before the patch hit, or you were anywhere lower and can't really do anything. They introduced a bunch of good ideas but forgot to include the basis those ideas were built upon, quite literally stripping out the supports they had on the PTR and making half a patch go live. So resource gathering has become nearly impossible for many, most items can no longer be properly equipped, and every weapon will break down permanently and need to be replaced.
As a commentary on the state of America and planned obsolescence, it's a good statement and would likely make for some nice classroom discussion for the younger crowd. As an MMO that's supposed to be a skill-based TPS all that it's done is transformed itself into a resource gathering sim which happens to include guns.
Aion - For some strange reason they introduced big-ass mechs to this fantasy game, which are shaped a lot like Lagann from TTGL. It's all rocket punches and big robot claps, and so far it's been stupid fun messing around with that to overlook how not good the rest of the game is.
I've been kind of wanting to play Guild Wars 2 again today, I think I'll crack that open again.
Almost as good as your all time best.
I can say this for it: it's making me appreciate just how tough balancing and designing a great strategy game is. I have Tactics Ogre PSP and FE: Sacred Stones on deck. I'll enjoy them ten times more than I would had I not suffered a little Project X Zone.

I fired this up today on the Super Game Boy. I have always loved the music and the atmosphere of the levels, but I didn't remember the controls being this stiff. Running and jumping just doesn't feel smooth at all, especially compared to other Mario games. According to the credits, there were just two programmers and two designers working on Super Mario Land. Clearly, these guys weren't Nintendo's top developers at the time. At least the composer did his job well.
That's one of my all-time favorite Mario games. It's like the Zelda II of Mario games.
I think I played like ten minutes of Contact. Might be time to fire it up again.
I'm a big fan of Super Mario Land. As far as I know, it was the first platformer for a portable game system (I'm not counting Game & Watch/Tiger LCD-type stuff here, just cartridge based programmable handhelds). That was one of the reasons it stood out at the time.
Super Mario Land 2 is a big piece of shit. Land 1 is cool though. Great music!
Mario Land it's seriously great fun for doing speed runs.
I finally decided today was a good day to play Mysterious Song, the homebrew Turbo rpg that came out a few years ago. The music is really catchy, and it certainly feels like a rpg from about 1989, for better or worse. Outstanding effort for homebrew, it's certainly better than Cosmic Fantasy 2.
If you are brave, play SML on the original Gameboy. Guarantee blindness in 2 minutes.
I did that on Christmas day 1989. I'll pass in 2014.
I did that about 10 years ago, and it really helped me in my decision to sell all my GB collection.
Want one? I'm going to be selling a bunch of turbo/pce hardware soon, I just need to remod the systems.
I might be interested in a duo (if SSJN is not interested). I still have a couple of games left (mostly wanky WD games, Castlevania and Military Madness).
?!
I would love a modded duo that could play everything.
I sold my duo r a few years back because modbox.
But playing those games with an xbox controller just doesnt feel right.
I kept double dragon II and my rpgs. Gotta keep the rpgs.
I'll sell you a Magic Box converter for a lot less than that Duo is going to cost.
The guys who make the region mod chips are out of stock right now, so that might not happen. My Duo is rgb modded by that dude on eBay but I'm going to redo it to make it better. My region/rgb modded TG16CD will be on the chopping block though.
Gooby pls, gohan loves me and will charge pennies on the dollar. I saved his life once when we toured 'Nam.
Double Dragon 2 fuuuuuck
Yoshi is right, fuck real hardware. Give me dd2 since you won't need it.
Eh, if im stuck playing only one region of hu card, i prefer a nipponese model.
Super Game Boy makes everything better. Custom color palettes FTW. Playing on a big screen with real speakers and a real controller also helps those games out a lot.
I don't have too many Game Boy games anymore, but the ones I still have are all fun:
Metroid II
Battletoads
Mega Man
Super Mario Land
Link's Awakening
Tetris
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III
Kirby's Block Ball
There are actually a lot of cool exclusives on the Game Boy if you can live with the 4-color limitation.
GB Donkey Kong is one of the best games ever.
going through Super Mario World 2, Yoshi's baby frustration for the first time. This is an amazing looking snes game
It's kinda dull to actually play it (HERESY!), but the visuals are top-notch.
Dishonored: The Knife of Dunwall (PC)
Gettin' on with the killin' again, and likely to be finishing this with High Chaos. But that's OK because I'll be replaying this later, unlike the usual CoD or other ultra-linear "play it once, nothing more to see here" title. Long live the crossbow- I find the explosive bolts hard to resist, especially when caught in a 4-Overseer rushdown after blowing stealth and having spent all the sleep darts. Falconing in on enemies from a higher spot with a well-aimed Blink to choke them out right on landing, then dumping them in the nearest trash bin= always epic.
Guild Wars 2 - It's good but never manages to hold my attention for long. I decided to start a new necromancer and they gave me some scrolls to automatically level up a new character to 20, so I'm already back in the game which is nice. I think I might try and do more PVP this time and see how that goes.
Loadout - This seems okay, the art style is pretty great and the build-your-own-weapon thing is pretty sweet. There effectively only being one character to choose from is kind of lame, it'd be nice if there was a bigger selection and if they had some kind of stats to differentiate them. Doesn't really do anything new, but it's free so whatever.
Power Blazer Famicom- US players ended up with a better product in Power Blade. The Japanese original starred Master Higgins cosplaying as Mega Man and featured a far more linear design. It's a pretty different game with less polish. Boomerang attacks are more constrained, jumping on ladders requires way too much precision, and landing on floating platforms results in dodgy detection. It is a cheaper Famicom exclusive but really only suited for big Power Blade or character platformer fans.
Stormbluff Isle. Looks like I can transfer if I want?
I wonder if I can change the sound effects. The weapons sound so wimpy. Like I'm using the axe and there's this big raking claw attack and it sounds more like I'm idly sharpening a knife off in the background. Let's put some punch into these attacks.
World Rally Fever (Team17, $5.99 @ GOG) - Good 1996 scaling-sprite racer with dune buggies that's a cross between Power Drift & Mario Kart. Unlike PD there's a jump button- broken bridges must be manually jumped. While done by Belgian developer Split, WRF looks like a Japanese arcade or FM-Towns title.
Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials (PC) - Gave the Mystery Foe, Burglar, and Kill Cascade challenges a shot. Really cleaned the house out on Burglar, taking most of the coins/bonus treasures.
My super gameboy works. What should I play?
I tetris and the Jp megabits game.
If I break the disk trying to shove it into the gb slot, what will you give me?
You didn't ask what you should play on your Super GameBoy. The answer to that question is Roger Rabbit.
If grief was currency, you'd all made me rich beyond words.
I should get Roger rabbit. I never got to beat the original because the car cooked my 1st copy back in the day.
Assassin's Creed 4. They got so much right with this one, I wonder why they bothered with 3. And those pirate shanties...so good.
Donkey Kong is the best. All kinds of play mechanics being tossed at you every level.
It's really kind of stupid how good it is.
DK 94 is the best videogame.
I am playing Castlevanie LoS. I started this on 360 a long while back and now I am playing it on PC.
Also playing Outrun 2006 again, the HUD scaling on the PC version is terrible. And the lack of XBox 360 button prompts. Y is Enter, B is Esc, I forget what button F1 is
I was chalking up my not great performance due to rust, but there might be something there. I didn't feel that way though
that's nice dude!

no I want more Timberland ads
PVP space combat time:
Strike Vector - This game is damn fun. A good chunk of selectable weapons and some of the tighter maps give some real frenzied action. The controls are a little wonky at first since there's a lot of differences due to the transforming jets, but my only real complaint is that there's no throttle. The speeds are either 0%, 100%, or if you equip an afterburner like 300%. This removes a lot of strategy and control from chasing and escaping other players, since you can never make tighter turns or perform a slight catch up without drastic hairpins from completely stopping, re-aiming, and then restarting. But aside from that and some low quality menus due to it being an indie game it's pretty great. Changing their model before release from F2P to purchasing the game and getting free DLC forever is also nice.
Star Conflict - They've made a lot of changes since I've last played and upgrading ships is a lot nicer. There seems to be more ambiguity to the menus then I remember there being, as it gets a little confusing sometimes to find specific things. Nevertheless, the combat is still pretty good (if slower than I remembered) though I do wish they would buff the amount of missiles that can be carried into a fight and/or be able to replenish them mid-fight. Carrying a whopping six is kind of lame. I also figured they would've added more gameplay modes by now, but I don't think they're a big company.
SWTOR - Since the Galactic Starfighter is now available to everyone I reinstalled to try it out. It's, well, it's Star Conflict with less modes, less ships, less customization, no overall battle between factions, and no 360 degree control. I understand the last one since if ships were as comparatively nimble are they are in Star Conflict it wouldn't jive with how Star Wars ships have always been, but it's still very jarring going from one to the other. That being said, they did a good job copying a decent game so it's still fun to play despite being more limited.
So once again SWTOR failed to match SWG.
I stopped playing before stuff like the combat overhaul and the starship expansion, so I have no idea how SWG's space combat was.
Finished The Last of Us.
As far as Push Up to Win games go, it's a great one. Only playing bits of Uncharted, I can see how this follows that, and how obviously Tomb Raider was chasing after them all.
Outside that? Pokemon Y (the Bank thing is out and free for a month), FFXIV, bits of all the PS3 crap I've bought, and lots of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Well, yeah, this wasn't intended to be a complete overhaul like space exploration would be. This is just a combat thing that characters of any level can participate in (it uses a unique set of currency to buy parts, though you can use unlocked crew members as partners) and is free for everyone unlike their normal expansions. Having something about a war effort, however, would be nice. In Star Conflict there are three factions that players can pick from (and can switch between) and there's an overall map that shows how each faction is faring, which gives access to selecting specific areas or some such. Having nothing in a far more expansive MMO seems a bit weird, even if it was just a cosmetic thing.
Killzone: Mercenary - It's almost like forcing myself to play through. It's beautiful for a portable but the combat is just kind of there, the levels feel tiny, and the alternate objectives seem purposefully unclear at times. There's really nothing compelling here besides the graphics and feels like a solid step down from Killzone 3.
Warframe - One of my friends started playing this so I'm getting back into it, and they've made so many improvements and upgrades since I last played that I feel like a whole expansion got added. So damn good.
I tried playing Warframe a few times. I log onto a map and everyone just races to the exit. I must be missing something because it's like the worst thing ever.
I can play, for example, ME3 with randoms and have a great time.
Fable Anniversary: They should be ashamed of themselves edition.
Yet another shoddy "HD MASTERED" garbage cash in.
I still like the game, original foibles and all. But there is no excuse for the problems that this thing has performance wise. Guess I'll just play through Lost Chapters on my original xbox instead.
That bad?
Bravely Default is very very good.
Tearing ass through Dynasty Warriors 7 so I can play 8.
A lot of people have done it all a ton and are just grinding out levels for their new gear. I'd recommend playing alone to get used it at first or you'll just be getting left behind wondering what's happening all the time. It was bad when I was fresh into the game because I didn't understand how the map pieces were laid out, and even now that I do I still tend to bring up the rear because I keep using slower frames. I'm guessing you're somewhere in that area.
The defense modes are the closest to the condensed ME3 horde maps with spawning waves of enemies, which might be more up your alley.
Sounds like a Fable 360 game alright.
World of Tanks is free now on XBL. Downloaded it last night (78 mb lol), then went through like 20 minutes of patch downloading, but once it started it ran flawlessly. MUCH nicer than playing it on my PC. Sunk 4 hours into it last night, it's clicking much better with the controller. We need to have a TNL battalion roll out some night, I think several of you would enjoy this kinda thing.
Is it like Alien Front Online?
I had to look up what that was! No it's slower than that seems to look, less arcade-y. It's straight up tank on tank combat, and the movement is purposefully slow because, well, you're a tank. I believe all the vehicles in game are real tanks, obviously some move faster and upgrades and such help, but you're still driving a tank. The fun part for me is trying to move in undetected and sniper in some debilitating shots before they even know where I am, flanking and positioning are important too. And the matches are usually pretty quick, I think the biggest they get is 15 vs 15. It's good times, and it's free. Give it a shot!
Edit for Mech: You're right, that sentence didn't need a "now". I more meant that it's been planned for a while, and "now" it is out, and it is free.
Ninja Five-O (GBA): Playing through Hard Mode and Time Trials on my DS Lite. The colors look really good on the Lite screen, so much better than my original model GBA SP (which can barely hold a charge now). Thinking about getting a GBA Micro to plow through my GBA backlog, maybe even finishing~ Drill Dozer ~
finally.
I've got the CE edition of Bravely Default staring at me, but I find the prospect of starting another JRPG daunting right now.
Pretty amazing trio of games in that post. Those are the best ones.
Bravely Default is breezy. Don't be daunted.
