In Australia, beer is almost always served in chilled schooner glasses. I think the general idea is that it'll be finished before it gets warm anyway. The only places it's common to see mug style glasses is German / Bavarian pubs, of which there are a handful in Sydney. For some reason pints never really caught on here.
Cold beer in general is definitely an Australian thing. I think its because of our climate crossed with it being institutionalised by beer advertising (I'd post a VB ad but I'm on my phone). Warm beer is insulting to most Australians.
