Nvidia seriously gimped the amount of memory on the 600 series cards, especially when you consider that the GTX 480 came with 1.5 GB, and that was in 2010. It wasn't until mid-summer of last year that Nvidia's partners started bringing out 4 GB 600 series cards and Nvidia's rebadged 680 (GTX 770) launched with 4 GB as well.
