"Why am I playing?" As an example: With Mario Galaxy, I found most of the game to be pretty whatever until the one awesome level that was the Bowser final fight. Then when I played Mario Galaxy 2, I'm certainly not playing for any attachment to the continuing story and yet I'm essentially starting over on easy levels that don't really do much that's new. So what am I even playing the sequel for? A hope that it might get better after I've trudged through all the legwork yet again? It's "just" more of the same, despite being refined and with some additions here and there. inb4 someone makes a list of differences between the games
It's basically about what level of attachment do you have to the game to you're going to be playing (like what Yoshi said). I certainly don't agree with a lot of those labels but it's going to vary from person to person. It's the same thing as when home ports of shooters got low scores all the time because people mashed on the continue button and then said it was too easy and that they had beaten it in an hour.
