This really makes me anxious this is foreshadowing a supernatural ending.
that would be great.
I really enjoy this show quite a bit. Probably my favorite show on tv these days. It's really well done.
This show has blown me away. I didn't think anything would be able to fill the void that Breaking Bad left, especially this soon, but this has done a stellar job so far.
That ending single shot scene in the last episode had HOLY SHIT written all over it.
Dem titties.
Oh yes! And what a glorious set of titties they were.
I'm not one for starfuck crushes but that woman is built perfectly.
I think we found the one thing all of TNL will agree on being awesome, the True Detective titties.
She could use a lil more ass, so i wouldnt say shes built perfectly.
But those boobs, perfect.
I don't even like big tits and I still think those are the most spectacular tits I have ever seen.
Episode 5 of this was incredible. I think Cohle knows he's a character in a TV show. But I'm probably totally wrong.
This poetry is very bad.
Wait, I'm an idiot.
This is probably the best damn thing I've ever seen on TV. I grew up in Lake Charles, and I gotta say the show really nails southwest Louisiana. Perfectly.
Season finale tonight! Can't wait to see how they finish this off.
I cant wait for the backlash.
It was good.
But it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. The last two episodes specifically.
Love the show, fantastic first season that's going to be tough to equal nevermind top.
The show was excellent front to back.
If there is a backlash, it is because a bunch of morons on the internet worked themselves up into a lather over some metaphysical shit or some M. Night Shymalan twist. You can't blame the show for not doing what those retards wanted.
SECOND SEASON WILL BE BETTER.
Denzel guarantees it.

I found most of the Carcosa sequence to be incredibly corny/hollywood/predictable.
Marty breaking down at the sight of his family after the case was the highlight.
I agree with Diff. It was exactly what it should have been. A very well done show all the way around.
It was well done. I thought for sure Rust got killed before even getting a shot in on that perv. I liked the reality-based writing. Good shit and I want to see where the second season takes us (maybe a case told over 1 day?)
I thought the action would be a bit bigger though. I wasn't expecting Breaking Bad gattling-gun style big but that finale was undeniably satisfying.
That was fan-fucking-tastic. And backlash my ass. True Detective did more in eight episodes than most shows do with multiple seasons.
Matthew McConaughey will win the Emmy for best actor in a miniseries, guaranteed.
McConaughey already said he won't be back for another season BTW.
Neither will Woody Harrelson or anyone else. It's confirmed next season will have a new cast and story. Which begs the question, who will they cast as the leads that can live up to the flawless standard McConaughey and Harrelson set?
The finale is definitely sticking with me. I liked it. The swirling vision thing when he entered the chamber, both leads crying and having their entire world view flip turned upside down, and the serial killer was great in the one scene they gave him. I like the part of the story they didn't tell - where they were chasing ghosts the entire time, by the time they caught up to this guy he was the only one left - no more giant cult. Just one creepy dude fucking his sister.
Try again.
I'd say the giant cult is still there and goes way deeper than what we we're shown, the "sprawl" as Rust refers to it. The tape showed like 4-5 people in it. The anchor during the news report said police and FBI have discredited rumors of Errol's relation to Sen Tuttle, not to mention that Rust mentions that to Marty that didn't get them all.
No, I think Dave is partially right. The patriarch was tied to a slab with his mouth sewed. He was something horrifying that was born out of something only slightly less horrifying, I think the pedophile ring/cult probably still exists, but they probably don't sanction the killing or torture, especially of his father.
Marie Fontenot was in 1990, Dora Lange was 1995 - the former was clearly the cult and the latter was almost certainly Errol by himself. What happened in those 5 years, whether the cult disbanded or moved to Florida or whatever is speculation. People are still around who know about it and keep things covered up - but who knows if they're still out killing. All of the killings after 95 were probably just Errol by himself.
I'll second dave on that - it is strongly implied that Errol is doing this by himself at the present, remember the convo with the black cops, they tied Errol to the Billy Lee murder, so it looks like it was just him trying to tie up loose ends
Wow. Finally was able to watch the last ep. Amazing show. There is no way this doesn't win all the major tv awards.
I misread dave's post, thinking he was implying there never was a cult and it was just Errol.
Just finished the last two, that was fantastic.
I dug it, I'm still thinking about the finale. And my wig technology has come a long way. Woody Harrelson 1995 hair!
I just finished this show - it's the best TV show I've ever seen. I totally didn't expect to be saying that, I had a few people recommend it to me, but I was thinking it would be a throwaway week long watch. Was I ever wrong - it was practically flawless, absolutely perfect pacing, everything i require in a TV show. I would say the only very very minor change that would have made it extra perfectly bleak is If Hart would have died and Cohle remained alive. That's almost too depressing though, so I'm fine with how it ended.
Some people seem upset that the Yellow King was never fully explained, but my theory is that the Yellow King refers to the drug mix of LSD and Meth...kind of this slang for the hallucinogenic properties that Carcosa incites in his "world."
I'm 3 episodes in. The acting makes this show so captivating. That sounds like a Entertainment Weekly blurb, but it's the best way to put it.
I agree. Even the tiny bit players put in a fantastic performance.
The story was the only downfall. Things got a bit amateur by the end.
If not for Fargo, TD would have been my favorite show of the year.
Eh on Vaughn and Farrell.
But I loves me some Rachel McAdams.
Even though the first season didn't deliver in the end story wise, it was still a hell of a ride.
We'll see.
That trailer sucked but I'm really looking forward to Vaughn picking up his Clay Pigeons-esque roles. Colin Farrell annoys the shit out of me but I have high hopes it will be good anyway.
He has too much fun playing aloof characters. Every character he plays is devil may care. Vaughn and McAdams look like the most interesting parts of that trailer. John Carter of Mars seems like a bad choice.
Regardless this'll be fun.
So I watched this in an eight hour stretch. I felt one puzzle piece was left out. Was Marty's older daughter a witness to the occult ritual or did she just catch her dad cheating?
the psychosphere is rotting, man.
Well, I'm sold. "I'm gonna buttfuck your dad with your mom's headless corpse right here on the lawn!" was all I needed, sign me up!
That is what happens when you fuck a stranger up the ass.
They really laid it on heavy with the male impotence theme though. CHIPS and his viagra, Colin unable to impregnate his wife, Vince and his wife turing to IVF, Casper and his "pelvic wound", Rachel's boyfriend not keeping it up for the buttsex.
Also, was CHIPS' girlfriend the same Mexican girl who went missing and left her job at the meditation retreat?
I was going to ask the same thing. Just watched it again, and though he never says her name, it seemed like there were pictures of the xbox playing kids in her apartment.
But maybe we're just racist and so think they look similar.
I think they are the same.
Loved the first episode, totally surprised by the excellent work by Colin Farrell, who i usually dislike. I mentioned on tumblr how I'm seeing a lot of shade from people who don't live in CA, and how they don't get the new season - and proceeded to get replies from someone in LA who didn't think it captured the "LA vibe." I, uh, don't know what he watched but i'm pretty sure it didn't take place mainly in LA, but whatever.
Anyway, they are capturing a really killer part of california - the spaces between the main cities, the agg towns, suburbs, and the desert.
Sidenote: I think the ashram/retreat that the cops visited is the same that Don Draper had his Coke revelation at.
i just watched this and saw a bunch of backlash about it online. Seemed ok to me if not alittle melodramatic. Lots of setup.
I don't expect the intrigue of the first season though.
Wayyyyy hard act to follow, that first season. Looking forward to catching this soon.
well now...
Yeah. Whaaaaaaaat really. It's Ep2 and they already pulled a Game of Thrones OMG.
Ballsy.
Hell, there aint no way Lt. Mustache is dead. Too much setup and background to knock him off two episodes into the season. I was more shocked that HBO showed some straight up double penetration action. Ballsy. Also, that car at Casper's Hollywood house was the same one from episode one right? The one that his body was riding in the back seat the whole time?
Same car, same bird head.
It was in the car.
Man I haven't watched ep 2 yet. Ep 1 was ok. It's definitely a totally different structure than season 1 (which I also binge watched in one unfortunate night of no sleep) which I thought was pretty goddamned perfect. My wife then went on to binge watch it two days later and agree with me.
I respect that it's going to be different and I'm willing to let it go, but it already doesn't have a chance of being as captivating as last season. The performances of everyone last season was great, though it is SO HARD to not smoke constantly after watching Rust smoke in pretty much every scene.
I thought episode 1 was excellent. I'm not surprised to hear about the internets getting mad. Nerds gonna nerd.
I'm looking forward to Vince Vaughn going off, because he's gonna go off and it's going to be amazing.
I'm glad to see Vince has been laying off the booze the last couple of years. He was looking like Bloaty's Pizza Hog there for a good while.
I'm glad to see Vince Vaughn act again. He's been mailing it in for a long long time.
Just caught ep2. This was a good episode and they made the right move at the end. I also like how they're using some strange animal imagery (the crow). It's similar to the imagery of the first while being unique.
I guess the camera will come in handy—pretty much points directly at the last shotgun blast
I was wondering if there is going to be some crossover from season one to season two.
Young children, though not as young in season two, being sexually exploited. Animal masks. Some church that had a really shitty affect on some kids' lives.
I think i remember reading that there will be elements that repeat - I'm assuming the yellow king will make an appearance somewhere, or something that approximates it at least.
I like this season more than the first one so far.
I'm almost there with Diff.
First season looked intriguing as hell and had actors I cared about seeing.
This one started from 30 yards back and has managed to catch up and in some cases overtake the first season (maybe birdman isn't as head scratch inducing as the yellow king was, but we're only 2 episodes in, and the yellow king ended up being the biggest cock tease that failed to deliver since the last season of Lost).
Wha? Yall crazy. Only two episodes into this season, and you're making judgements. Maybe I just have a soft spot for the first season since I grew up in Lake Charles, but theres no way season 2 is already better. Not yet at least.
Yes, I'm making judgments. It's not like there isn't time for this to fall apart. There certainly is. But the first season had a whole lot going for it and this season a whole lot going against it and it has certainly delivered so far.
Fair enough.
Does anybody else have trouble hearing the dialog on this? Episode 2 was really bad, I had to turn subtitles on.
I'm not making judgements. Just evaluating my personal feelings. I like the characters and I like the setup so far. I just like it more.
Rachel McAdams is very pretty.
Why is Kingpin in this? Vaughns character is exactly the same as Kingpin in Netflix Daredevil.
Who the fuck is Stan?
hahahah he's nobody, i think that's the joke.
http://imgur.com/yCvj9lo this was a funny little thing i noticed in the background, i guess others did too, because they pointed out it was a pic of this:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8Lexs0xQuh...-wallpaper.jpg
Vince Vaughn is going to advance in outbursts until in the final episode where he obtains an Atomic Bomb and destroys southern california.
This one has been far more predictable for me. The dialogue just takes you places you expect to go. Not sure why some of you think it's better than the first one.
I dig this season. I don't know.
I don't think it's bad, but it's way more conventional than the first season.
Waiting for the whole thing to be done before starting in on this.
So...guess one of the producers is banging guitar chick?
You're only commiting one season at a time. Second season has absolutely nothing to do with the first. Each one is a standalone and the first season was good stuff.
I liked season one a lot!
Any Alex Daddario quality nudity this season yet?
