Respawning enemies out of thin air every time the camera angle shifts is definitely a bullshit mechanic.
Thankfully, the game seems to max out at three, occasionally four enemies on the screen at a time, so you can just keep running to the end of each room and then turn around at the door to blast all the laggards.
I played some of the Castle of Illusion. It's pretty bad. The jump has a weird pitch and doesn't carry forward momentum like you'd think it would, the projectile is generic, and the level design is jank.
Is this what kids without Mario thought was the height of the genre? Jesus, I'm sorry.
I don't think anyone ever thought that.
Muramasa: Rebirth - Well at least I can see where the Strider reboot got its level design of giant, empty rooms that link to more giant, empty rooms with one tiny pack of enemies to fight if you're lucky. It's beautiful but there is a whole lot of nothing going on in this game and the crazy amount of context sensitivity makes it pretty button mashy too. Not sure why there's unused buttons yet I can't do things like map left shoulder to dodge left and right shoulder to dodge right, I guess even with the improvements they just felt like leaving gaping holes all over the place. I'll probably finish it this time but all it really does is make me want to go back to Dragon Crown. That game may be just as mashy but at least it has things to fight.
Also: I'm glad there's a tutorial which displays the wrong inputs. Way to go.
Warframe - I've slowed down a lot on playing this because I've done practically everything there is to do in the game, but the weekly updates ensure that there's always something to come back to. Probably the most updated and developer-interactive online game I've ever played. Kind of surprised Blizzard didn't try something similar with Reaper of Souls to keep people coming back over time.
Diablo III - So much more fun than vanilla, but unfortunately the complete lack of targeted drops of almost any kind ends up making a progression wall of pure RNG. I've reached the point on a few characters where like 20-30 specific drops are my only real upgrades but all I can do are generic runs and pray. Rotating bosses or named elites every week with increased chances to drop certain pieces or something would go a long way towards making things more interesting, because as is it's way too easy to end up dead in the water with no player input for progression. Still, good times overall.
I joined a few different communities, like MonkRifts. Rifting with 3 others of your class and then just taking what you need is rad.Quote:

I was doing that on my barb but it wasn't working out so hot. I'll try it again later but I had better luck just running shit with you guys. Go RNG.
Yeah, I don’t think so either but it would really hard to find someone not exposed to Mario back then anyway. I think for Castle of Illusion, it would help to have played it back when it first came out. It was the first time a Disney game did justice to the look of classic Disney. The atmosphere was quite surreal. I never had a problem with its physics or controls so to me it was one of the first impressive mascot platformers of its era along with Bonk before it.
I assume we’re talking about Genesis Castle of Illusion. The 8-bit versions are quite different. A lot of people prefer them so even if you hate the 16-bit one, they’re worth at least trying if you can. Land of Illusion on SMS is arguably the best playing game in the series.
E-SWAT (arcade) Already finished it on normal. Now I tried hardest mode and 1CCed that- sort of. Finished the final boss and got the 1M bonus for a total of 2,515,100. Bad news? The final boss kill was a Double KO, so there was no ending.
Lichdom: Battlemage (PC) Decided to get it after the mention in the Hellraid thread. This does make the mage seem more like a badass- with projectile attacks, AOEs, and a barrier (doing a Just Defense causes a nova blast that damages the enemy). Mana is not limited, but projectiles can be charged for more damage. Liking this so far.
South Park Stick of Truth - finally started this. It's Mario & Luigi with South Park and that is great! It's really funny and looks awesome. The PS3 version has frame rate issues while walking around town, which is kind of unbelievable, but whatever.
