lol that title.
Terrible title name.
Rise of my Womb Raider.
AMIRITEFELLAS?
Bad title, but it wouldn't make me avoid the game. I played TR: DE a couple months ago and was surprised at how good it was.
If it's as good as the last game I would day one it.
Son of Tomb Raider
Conquest of Tomb Raider
Battle of the Tomb Raider
Return to the Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider vs. Mechagodzilla
A Greater Tomb Raider
I thought they were nixing the Tomb Raiding component.
Lara Croft in Do These Pants Make My Ass Look Big?
Tombs are still available as DLC.
Her titties slowly get bigger and bigger as you play through the game.
Like hearts in Zelda
Lara Croft's heart grew three sizes that day.
"We feel we have opened the avenue for the player to experience growth as the character does."
lol
She'll lament the growth of her breasts and the burden they place on her during a cutscene, and then immediately afterwards will spend the rest of the game going out of her way to collect breast enhancements.
balls all over.
E3, amirite?

Either do it, or don't.
Second/Third party exclusivity is dumb. If your internal teams can't produce compelling exclusives, your console deserves to sell like shit.
That's dumb though, there are good reasons why a company would pay a dev (rather than outright own them) to make something solely for their platform and without their help, that game may never get made.
That's a pretty rare case though. The majority are bullshit like this and SFV where it's purely a cock block.
edit: I guess I would draw the line at who owns the IP. I don't have an issue with Nintendo subcontracting F-Zero to Sega, but don't fuck with existing multiplatform franchises and their fanbases.
Part of me really thinks Street Fighter V was a "we get help with this, or we don't do it" kind of thing. That was absolutely not the case here.
Rise of the Tomb Raider is what happens to me every morning.
Does Street Fighter being exclusive even matter to anyone besides the few fans like us left? NOPE. Stop kidding yourselves. Nobody gives a shit about these anymore.
Everyone bought SF4 because Capcom marketed it brilliantly. Like, that it was a back to basics game like SF2 with all the original characters, not those weirdos in SF3 and the parrying nobody can actually do. And the olds like me all bought it... only to find out its actually a really fucking complicated game and they just replaced partying with some other shit that is if anything more inscrutable. So now only the hardcore fans play it. Which is fine, but the olds aren't gonna go buy another game with all the original characters again.
That's eerily well put.
Fighting games are just over complicated now. Fuck off with the hundreds of moves per character.
I feel the same way about sports games for the most part, and they were two of my favorite genres 20 years ago.
Also, we should be having this discussion in the SFV thread.
As long as you're not selling shit in threads that it has no business being in, I don't care.
This started off as exclusivity talk.
I don't buy SF4 being that complex. You can get by just fine in that game with SF2 fundamentals. The problem is that "The olds" love to act like we were SF2 masters when in reality we never put in the amount of time versus real players that actually knew what they were doing to develop a strategy beyond "throw fireballs, dp if they jump".
Also if MK and Injustice can make money, SF5 absolutely can.
I'm an old. I'm pretty good at sf2. Some of sf4's mechanics are needlessly complicated. Take the input for focus attack dash cancel, fundamental to even intermediate play:
(special move), press and hold mp+mk, tap forward twice, release mp+mk after the dash begins but before it ends.
Here's what the same damn mechanic looks like in Guilty Gear, a "complicated" game:
(special move), press any three buttons.
Moreover, in SFIV, FADC requires a lot of unnecessary and unintuitive hand movements because your fingers don't naturally rest on mp+mk. In GG on the other hand, you can just slap whatever buttons are under your fingers to cancel any move. My nana can Roman Cancel. I've been playing fighting games competitively for fifteen years and still botch FADC.
I don't FADC ever. It's not fun to do, so I play around it. I also don't plink. I don't want to get better at a game if it means I have to play like an asshole.
There is some truth to this. The moment I realized I was not good at Street Fighter was when I watched that magical EVO moment in 2001(?). I went back to Third Strike and realized that I was not prepared to put in the amount of effort necessary to become a higher-tier player. Or, just, like really good. I still played Street Fighter 3 for the aesthetics of the game. IV does nothing for me.
It's funny–there are other things in my life that seem super daunting at first, but I'm 100% willing to devote my spare time to mastering. Street Fighter stopped being that thing in the early-to-mid-aughts.
Mzo is just stubborn. It's really not that hard.
I mean come on. GG is perceived as complex because it has systems on top of systems on top of systems, and it's fast. SF4 has one additional universal input that can be utilized in a few universal ways and an ultra meter. Whining about its "complexity" after CvS and MvC and Alpha is some bullshit.
it's just a new input and these old fogies won't take the time to get it down.
You know what is really powerful in SF4?
FADC.
I have pretty easily and consistently beat most of TNL without using FADC. It's not that big a deal, at least for the characters I use.
If you aren't setting up a high damage combo or ultra, then it's just a waste of meter.
Anyhoo, I don't like third party exclusives because I don't want to own two virtually identical consoles and all of the accessories that go along with them just so I don't miss out on some exclusive, but at trhe same time, I realize that these exclusives are just about the only way for Sony and MS to differentiate their respective closed HTPCs.,
A lot of graphics tech talk. I want this for PC.
Anyone playing this on One?
Im playing this on One and its awesome. When this comes out on PC you guys need to buy it. This easily one of the best games this season and nobody is playing it.
I'll grab it if/when it comes to ps4.
Played it and completed the story a few night ago. I agree, it's a terrific game and Uncharted 4 will have to be pretty impressive to keep pace. My only complaint with the game is that the side missions and characters seemed a bit underwhelming. "Go put our supplies in a basket....go pick some mushrooms.....find some logs in the woods...." ZZZZzzzz. That small issue aside, definitely buy this game for the optional tombs and the frenetic action set pieces; they're some of the best in the genre.
Does this game have more varied, explorable tombs with puzzles like the first game in the 90s or mostly action set pieces like the most recent game?
The game most closely resembles the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot....lots of shooting and Uncharted like platforming. However, there are more optional tombs sprinkled throughout the game that take place in nicely varied environments and include puzzles that would make the best Zelda dungeons proud. The puzzles that aren't off the beaten path, that you have to solve to get through the main story line, are also more Tomb Raider-like than the last game. Basically, it takes all the elements that made the reboot such a successful action game, but adds puzzle elements that will better satisfy long time Tomb Raider fans....they're moving in the right direction.
I loved the reboot. Too much on my plate right now for this. First sale I'm on it.
Apparently this is selling like shit. I hope Taito Eidos learned something and/or that MSFT paid through the teeth for it.
What would they learn, "Don't release simultaneously with a widely regarded franchise that's not seen a new release in a couple of years"?
They probably thought they were the widely regarded franchise...
Considering FO4 on PS4 is doing 2X what it is on Xbox, I'd say it's not just the other franchise.
I only knew the game came out because someone listed some recent releases somewhere. I think Tomb Raider forgot it was supposed to let people know it was coming out.
I'm just waiting for it on PC, I'll pay 60 if it launches at that
It's a third rate franchise that came out right after Microsoft's Big Gun, the same day as Fallout and a week before Battlefront.
I bought Halo, Fallout and Battlefront.
Edit: Full disclosure I do hope it fucking tanks. Third party bought exclusives are gross no matter who's buying.
I'll get it when its 4 bucks on steam, like its predecessor was this weekend
It looks like someone will actually play this starting on January 29.
Maybe I'll play my copy by then.
I'll instantly buy this on PC. Cool.
Game is excellent. Glad more can play it soon.
Hmmmm... This game is now free with current Nvidia GPUs. I was going to pay full price for it, so I could SLI my 970 for $60 less in effect. Very tempting.
edit: Alternatively, I could likely find a cheaper than retail code on ebay at a minimum.
edit2: Yeah, the 970s are still more than I want to pay for SLI. I should just wait for the next gen cards.
edit3: $29.99 on ebay. Done.
It's about timing for me rather than money. If Skylake/NVLink/DDR4/whatever is available when I need it for when I decide I need VR, I'll future proof.
It reminds me of the multi-core debate. If I had listened to Opaque I wouldn't still be running the same CPU I bought in 2010 and using Ultra settings on current games.
A motherboard is a lot cheaper than a high end monitor. If you want G Sync/Free Sync, you have to commit anyway. I don't like it, but I'm resolved to having to make that choice either way.
edit: And it's not really any different than the AMD vs. Intel chipset decision you've always had to make with mobos.
Because it allows for a major paradigm shift in architecture not possible with the more limited PCIe bandwidth. They want to unify system and video RAM and better allow the CPU and GPU to talk to each other, which could have a lot of advantages if GPU compute ever becomes as viable as we all hope it is.
They're not doing it just to be dicks, the open standards just don't have the bandwidth for what they want to do.
Yea but will anyone put effort to take advantage?
The unified RAM lines up better with the PS4, so it might get taken advantage of by accident for console ports.
I read about it and it sounds like right now it's just for HPC. I doubt it's coming to a consumer product anytime soon.
Edit: and for gaming applications pcie 3.0 is more than enough. You guys are buying into Nvidia's dumb bullshit, like how they always say Tegra is the best thing ever and it always sucks balls.
Are the mods seeing how off topic Yoshi has made this?
Nobody is talking about the game to begin with, can't be off topic when there isn't one.
Take it to PC though.
I'm actually super excited for it. For being only on "forgotten" platforms so far, it got some good play as a GOTY candidate.
Stop making this about you.
The preload is available on Steam for what is apparently a damn good port. Interestingly, this is the first time I've noticed the consoles' AMD architecture come into play, as it uses asynchronous compute, which Nvidia doesn't support. It doesn't seem to give those GPUs an advantage though, as the performance is just different and not objectively better on one versus the other.

Unlock damn it!
The new DLC Baba Yaga is out too. Not a bad little story addiction so far.
No one seemed to be clear on the PC DLC, but Baba Yaga is indeed available as well. I hate paying full price for season passes, but depending on how much I enjoy the game, their timing is good.
Have you played this game yet, Yoshi? If so, what do you think of it so far?
I just finished the first chapter. It's beautiful, and it plays exactly like you would expect. The first chapter is definitely tomb raiding and not combat focused. There does appear to be a lot of hunting/gathering required for crafting weapons and aid items for better or worse.
I almost exclusively use the bow and arrow for the whole first game.
Yes, it is a beautiful game and it only gets better looking as it goes. Make sure to seek out all the secret Tombs, because they're still the best parts of the game!
Yep, and it's still the most useful weapon in Rise of the Tomb Raider.
ROTTR and some other Square Enix games were on sale at Steam, so I nabbed that alongside a few others.
The Very High textures will require 4GB+ of VRAM. I am thinking of swapping the GTX 580 out for a 6GB 980 Ti (same TDP, so there shouldn't be a problem). The 580 is still a good card, but 5 years old and some newer games' settings need dialed down a bit. That said, High TQ is good enough for now, along with PureHair (Tress FX 2 ) turned off.
Right now, the framerate does sort of tank at the Soviet Installation but still stays playable. Going indoors or inside a tomb- BAM, higher FPS returns. Hopefully further patches fix that.
HBAO+ is not really too bad of a framerate killer, according to Nvidia. I've tried it and noticed just about no difference in FPS.
This is the best one of all the TR games, with TR2013 a close 2nd. TR Angel of Darkness totally missed the jump, but once Crystal Dynamics took hold of the series, things got better.
DX12 support patched
It might be time to try the DLC this weekend!

Can we also get the title to read (PC, PS4, One) now?
It's also on 360 and PS3, no?
