I'm glad people are excited about this.
I was excited too when I first saw it revealed in like February or whatever!
Seriously? Where did you see it back then?
This immediately grabbed me when I saw it in the montage. I hope it's as awesome as it looks.
Certainly clever and original (if copying the animation style of 80 years ago can be called original). Visually it looks spot on amazing. Hopefully it's fun to play, too. I assume Yoshi's right and this will be multiplat.
It says STEAM and XBox ONE at the end of the trailer, so you might want to add PC to the topic title.
Which trailer? Great news regardless.
The controls summary in the first video shows keyboard inputs...
WTF? I only see an X1 controller. I wonder if the video got updated, and I have the old one cached.
Read the labels pointing at the controller parts.
ok, so I'm fucking blind. Carry on.
Visually it's fantastic for what they're going for but not really my thing. I kind of want to support it anyway just because.
The style may not be all it has going for it. The dev has said it's a Treasure-inspired boss rush, a la Alien Soldier.
And... the Sega Master System. :blank::doubt::eep:
holy shit
Wow....okay.
OK, so this has come a LONG way. I can't believe how good this looks. INSANE.
I had forgotten all about this. Phenomenal!
Yeah, this is really terrific looking. It's clear that they're not just aping the style for kitsch, but that they're real students of animation treating that style with the love and respect it deserves. There's so much craftsmanship in depression-era American animation and they've really nailed that style so well. I don't know if I'm excited about the gameplay but I like the visuals enough that I want it anyway.
I don't think I'll find this very interesting to play but technically it's amazing.
When I was a kid, this is what I hoped and pictured games would look like in the future (stuff like Dragon's Lair with minimal interactivity didn't count).
This is the Platonic ideal of those old Chip and Dale NES games. Wow.
I can't wait to throw money at this.
I have no desire to play this game.

Another Steam, Windows 10, and Xbox combination.
My only concern with this game will be whether the platforming ends up being crappy.
Initially, I'd thought it was only boss battles (I forget where I'd seen this). Platforming shooters have to work really hard to make sure their run-and-gun sections don't suck.
I'll buy if my favorite reviewers seem to dig it.
Initially it WAS only boss battles. Then MS threw money at them to make levels and most people who have played it have not said great things about that part of the game.

Apparently it's a 70/30 split or so. While it looks great it doesn't look very fun.
The bosses look super fun. Unsure about the rest.

This came out today!
I'm pumped for this weekend, Cuphead and Forza
This game is what I hoped it would be. It's clear the artists really loved these old cartoons and aren't just doing some crude approximation. Doesn't seem like it's too heavy on the platforming stages and they're not awful, so that puts that fear to rest as well.
It's difficult to gage how good this game is when everyone uploading footage of it, professional review or not, is unfathomably bad at it. Nobody is using the airdash outside of the tutorial or the parry in any but the most obvious situations.
No online coop?
Local only from what I read.
The verb gauge, which refers to measuring or estimating, also has a variant gage. This variant appears to show up primarily in informal sources, though not often. Gauge is by far the preferred spelling in general usage for both the noun and the verb; we encourage you use it.
This is crossbuy Windows 10 and One, by the way. Can't wait!
welp, getting this and will stream it this week
Between this and 20XX I couldn't be happier with platforming in the year of our lord 5778
Is it just me or do the early bosses go down WAY easier than they did in the gameplay demos?
Regardless, this game is PHENOMENAL. Testament to how we need fewer games with longer development times.
Wellp.
See y'all at the crossroads.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...85edae61e7.jpg
I miss my uncle Charles, y’all.
I bought it. Fuck the police. My sisters and I watched an absurd number of cartoons from the emulated period growing up.
The real question: does this have any cab calloway or armstrong in it?
The soundtrack's all original, but it's definitely channeling the period music well. King Dice is probably a nod to Calloway, looks-wise.
Another cool nod is the boss Grim Matchstick, a reference to one of the era's most prolific artists, Grim Natwick. He stutters like Natwick did, too.
I can't believe they actually did rotograph backgrounds for some of the stages. So cool.
I bought it. Beat the first world. Game has teeth!
man if the babbies thought sonic mania was hard
I'm not very into platformers, but I do want both Sonic Mania and Cuphead. If I buy only one at full price, which should it be?
I'm not sure how much of a platformer Cuphead is. It's 80% boss battles.
Sonic Mania is the better game of the two, but they're pretty different. Cuphead gets a big boost from its style, while Sonic is perfection in controls and physics with some really good level design.
Decided not to wait any longer and grabbed this. Super happy with the decision so far! Everything feels spot on and looks wonderful. That first world/hour went by fast and I'm excited to revisit the levels for better grades.
Will this run on any decent PC or does it require something beefy?
Any decent setup should do the trick.
I like this game
Anyone catch the mario reference in the carnival music?
No.
you're fucking with me? There is a 20 second sample of it 30 seconds in
I mostly love the small touches of this game. Like when you fight the big slime how he grumbles like Bluto.
I have noticed a few small things not true to the period though. A few gestures and characters look more like Joe Murray and J. G. Quintel than anything else. The fucking clown is a pretty good example of one that doesn't really look period accurate when you look at it.
But whatever. It was probably a small team with different people working on different bosses. So I guess that sort of thing happens.
This is terrific! Cleared the first map in one siting, fighting the clown now. I find I catch most of my deaths from chasing down pink objects to parry and being bad at parrying.
The animation and the aesthetic are absolutely delightful. Having dash mapped to Y by default is not.
I really want that Mega Man X placement and/or a directional double tap --BUT, the developers knew what they were doing, and the default layout *does work well*. I just get tripped up by old habits.
I always map Megaman X like that anyway (dash is SNES button X) and I'm not sure I could play as well without it. You can do some crazy shit by being able to hit all three buttons at once.
Yeah, I hate where the dash is.
I'm still digging this game, but there's no mistaking it for any of the boss rush games of the 16-bit era. It's the little things. Supers, for example, should have a few frames of invulnerability after ending, force their target into hit stun, or both so you don't just land on something that wasn't there when you started supering six seconds ago. Fodder run and gun enemies should take fewer hits to lend a sense of power. Those little gumball bullets from the grenade gun should have unique, pronounced visual and sound effects on hit so they don't feel like dookie.
Someone on anime girl's facebook called it the dark souls of platformers. I died a little on the inside. Like a memory of a flower or puppy was forever removed and forgotten.
No sir, I don't like it.
It's all memorization and zero twitch.
It really reminds me of that Genesis Batman the Animated Series game.
But my test squad of me figured them out in minutes...
You've missed your calling, you should quit your day job and become an indie games tester.
I bet even that pretend job pays more than my current one.
The Windows 10 version of this game has a save bug if you alt-tab out. So don't do that while they work on a patch.
I absolutely adore the art style but it does not look like it's particularly fun to play.
Totally subjective. I'm having a ball with it, but I like Die A Lot Figure It Out games.
They really thought about that "die a lot" part. Designed very well around it.
God I want this game so fucking bad. Why no PS4 version?
MS paid for console exclusivity.
Suck.
Contra Level One wall, Mario 3 airship 4 way cannon ball shooters.
Ys in that there's bosses.
TNL in that there is reaching and GameGo, beating dead horses.
That dragon is straight up Mega Man 2. Right down to the two toes.
Just got the Perfect Run achievement on Funhouse Frazzle after fussing with trying to beat it for half an hour, feels good. On to island three!
The boss transitions are so satisfying, wow.
Oh shit Q-Bee.
I've yet to beat the dragon. Finally beat the (ass)clown
Using the different shots feels like cheating, but the lob bullets are really good on the dragon.
Try Heat Man's weapon fully charged.
I've got to the ghost train.
Meatboy is totally honest. I can't think of a single surprise I couldn't account for.
This game has some moments that might not be bullshit, but if you were its boyfriend and bullshit were a tan coworker who speaks French and has that natural arc to his eyebrows, it would be friendly enough with bullshit often enough that you'd consider looking through its phone.
Anybody who thinks Meatboy doesn't have improvisation never made it past the fourth stage.
Got all the way to dicemancards whatever.
This fucking game.
Just got to the third Isle last night and all the bosses so far have been great, but I wish there were more than two run and gun stages per Isle. Ghost House stages are fun but over too quick imo. I think I just don't want it to end.
You must be hanging around IP too much.
I would say that I would put SMB ahead of Cuphead. But I also think SMB might be the best platformer ever so there you have it.
My favorite part of the game? The announcer and the music. Underrated compared to the visuals which get almost all the love.
I'm not a fan of Meat Boy and think Cuphead is way better.
Cuphead does have a slight amount of jank (visibility issues mostly), but I don't think it's too big a deal.
