Many games these days don't really have memorable soundtracks. Online games being some of the worst offenders.
What do you listen to when you play?
I like Johnny or Hank Williams for Desert levels
The Neir soundtrack is good with almost everything
The Rafven remix track is good for games that take place in the 1930s
The beats in my head.

If the option is available, I automatically turn off the in-game music. I like to have the full sound effects in my 7.1 setup. Music dilutes my experience (except when music is a critical aspect of the game like Rez/Rock Band).

Other than that particular game I never listened to any other music while playing viddya gams
I really liked the custom music soundtracks you could play on the original Xbox; It was pretty cool playing the original Forza with your playlist. I was kind of disappointed when I tried to do the same thing with Forza 2 on the 360, and the music pretty much played like you were playing music in the background, instead of being in-sync with the game.
I miss that feature.
Depends on genre. For puzzle games, I listen to Aphex Twin:
Shooters, esp Battlefield, I listen to KMFDM:

I listen to nine inch nails when i play quake, white zombie when i play way of the warrior, and gravity kills when i play test drive off road.

For exercise gaming, it's NPR. Fewest programming breaks among anything broadcast on FM, and the regional oriented programs are decent as well. As long as I'm not listening in the evening hours, I'm OK.
When I play something online or something that's grindy (D3) and I'm by this PC here, I'll listen to the live cast off of here: http://fukuchiyama.fm-tanba.jp/ . I've been trying to work on improving my Japanese comprehension and I came to realize that I should have the language in the back of my head while I can do so. This is the station that I've found which has the most frequent content that is spoken and not musical (though there's plenty of songs that come around anyway).

I've been listening to some Dragon Quest & Suikoden symphonic albums while I've been playing New Vegas over the past few weeks. And I've got a big AC/DC playlist I have running on low while I play CoD lately.
