And on a personal level, it just makes hobbies less fun, because it starts to bring in idiots that don't understand markets. Its why SNES games go from $5 each at the pawn and thrift to $25. Its why prices never drop after they go up. Its why cartridges are sold for the same price as complete in the box (and both at something absurd). Because some dumbass saw something on tv, and thats it, that is what it is worth, forever. Old Fatass Mcpocketshorts said that the NES was the best system ever, and super rare, and worth $300 so by god I'm going to sell my fucking NES for $400. I'm going to make $100 more, because its only going to get rarer, right?
It would almost be better if those guys just put the shit in the trash, because the effect is the same and I wouldn't have to know about their stupidity.
I'd put most of the blame on ebay sellers. They are the ones driving up the prices, more than anything else. It's not like gaming forums don't drive up interest in certain games and hardware platforms. It was not more than 4 years ago that Playstation game prices were getting jacked up on ebay, and the like, and have recently came back down to reasonable. Suikoden (Suikoden II is a different story) was a game valued at over $100, but I can now get it for $40 at several stores in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Final Fantasy VII was selling for nearly $80, but is now back down to $40. And then you have crap like
