We both know they will get less time if they burn a gamestop, than if they killed a cop, judge, or other person at fault here.

ITT: People acting as though the looters and vandals are political activists motivated by a desire for social justice.
ITT: People acting like looters and vandals aren't a consequence of no social justice.
I find it utterly ponderous how people are lining up on predictable political lines on their assessment of this case. Like not on what they think right or wrong for the officer to have done but just whether or not they believe one scenario or another, which is not a political matter.
I saw a conservative news site claim in an article that the autopsy of Michael Brown showed his hands were not up in the air. Which is not only untrue but just ridiculous in concept that an autopsy even could prove such a thing. I don't get why political agenda would compel someone to lie about something like this. I don't want to feed into cliches about racism and classism but what else could it be?
A friend's friend on FB said something along the lines of white people not understanding because they generally trust the police to do their jobs. I know a lot of that is skin color but I'd be interested in seeing how TNL's political lines fall compared to the answer of a single question: "Do you generally feel safe around the police?"
No. Liberal.
I would say "yes" BUT:
1) I grew up in the nice part of my city, and another guy, a white dude, was abused by the cops in the wrong part of my city
2) I'm Canadian (where we don't have the same level of distrust for authority.)
Yeah, I'm guessing country has a pretty good bit to do with it to. I can't find a single English friend who trusts the cops. Black, white, asian, indian, paki, doesn't matter: "They're a bunch of cunts." LOL English people.
But I grew up in Branford, Connecticut, USA - which might as well have been called Whitesville. Not so much any more but when I was kid there were two or three black families. I'm still friends with the kid my age from one of those families. Either way, I was a good kid and a star student. No drugs, no alcohol, no smoking. Who knows.
Meanwhile, a buddy of mine from cozy Thornhill despises the cops. As a teen, he saw his black friend get assault and arrested for doing nothing. (I believe he was also arrested, too.)
Fuck the police.
