Police are supposed to protect and serve, but they are not trained that way whatsoever. Eric Garner was selling loosies. Walter Scott was late on child support payments. Zachary Hammond had weed on him. These were not menaces, the were members of the community these officers were sword to protect.
And this shit happens all the time. Like every fucking day and 99% you hear nothing about it. Just around here I can think of A man who called the police about a tresspasser, so they came to his house and beat the shit out of him and put him in a coma until he died. Or Phillip White, who laid on the ground and cooperated while the police dogs attacked him, and then they shot him. They claimed he tried to grab the officer's gun, despite video showing he was incapacitated at the time of the shooting. And they almost never face any consequences for this shit. This isn't media hype about a couple incidents, it's a real institutional problem.
