Things have always been bad.
Showed the vid to a number of people. It's sobering the volume of people who sided with the two officers no question. One co-worker was pleased taxpayer money was spared from shuffling him off to jail :( .
Yeah, cop support regardless of the situation is now a conservative talking point.
We're living through a party policy switch. The party of small government now supports the Patriot act and unquestioned police power.
And why? Same as the previous policy flips. Racism. One of the few things they never flip on.
It frustrates me to hell to see people defend the cops in for example the Eric Garner story. However the problem is nt just on the right. Both sides rush to judgement just in the opposite direction.
Example: All that "hands up don't shoot" shit about Michael Brown was completely made up garbage. All the forensics upheld the cop's side of the story.
Well news reporting is now a commercial endeavor instead of a service. The onus is to get the story fast and sensationalize. There's no way to make money from measured, balanced journalism of the sort that existed in the stodgy old days of newspapers and nightly news. I don't think it's even agenda driven.
But the "cops side of the story" is always that the unarmed assailant tried to grab a gun, even in cases where this is blatantly shown to be false (like the one I posted earlier). Forensics can't show such a thing, so only if it happens to be caught on camera can we know. And even then that cop in Trenton got off. I don't know that the cop in the Michael Brown case was definitively exonerated, they just couldn't really prove it one way or the other.
Also, being white in the hood is not exactly a great situation either. I've never felt in fear for my life, and luckily I've never even been arrested, but I've dealt with random police harassment by dickhead officers who think anyone white on my street must be there to cop. I've been given tickets for shit I blatantly didn't do and told that if I tried to fight it they know where I live and would come back for me. I've certainly had calls for help ignored.
Seriously, fuck the police. They're not all bad people but 95% of their jobs is making the world worse, not better. They drive around ruining people's days over bullshit and then when it comes time to actually protect and serve, you're lucky if they show up to file the paperwork.
Us vs them shit. Cops trying to get paid and you assholes with your facts and morality are just getting in the way.
Oh yeah, trying to get paid. Local police in my town have twice been busted for running brothels. At one point they were running background checks on potential buyers for a drug distributor to help them find buyers that wouldn't attract fed heat. They shot an unarmed man in the back who was running away a few years ago. This is just what I know about in my one medium-sized town in New Jersey.
Just trying to get paid. Why you gotta get in the way man?
