VIII I completely understand. VII will likely benefit from a much better translation, though. Don't you want the full Maribel experience?

Maribel da bes'
I'm tempted (very tempted) but it's such a long game. Like, Xenogears long.
Yeah, but it's vignettes. Use it as an aperitif or palate cleanser. Or anything! Use it for anything! Everyone needs a thneed!
...
Buy it and Finch won't break your legs.
It's longer than Xenogears but more manageable because it's moving from one vignette or parable to the next. Some are really touching! I think and hope this game will get a better response in the west in this year of 2015 than it did in 2001 when we were still riding on the Final Fantasy cutscene high.
Pretty much what Arobimi said:

First they came for the wet napkin bikinis in a horror game—
and i did not speak out because what who cares
Then they came for the little girl bikinis—
and i did not speak out because that's the elevator to jail
Then they came for the boob sliders—
and i did not speak out because it seriously doesn't matter are you really that upset
Then they came for the puff puff— and i realized you could read this a different way and oh no never mind........
Here it is in all its glory though
Dammit, Finch. I told you. All you have to do is stand behind me and hold the nine iron.
although i guess they didn't take it out from DQIX so maybe it'll be okay.

Which, I'll probably end up buying both. Again. And Layton/Wright is a great game everyone said they wanted and no one bought...'cept me an' Finch?
Oh, um, i'll make a DQ thread in a little bit if no one else does.
Chao bought Layton Vs. Wright too i think. It sold really poorly. It's best if you like both series. I thought it was amazing but lent it to someone who didn't care for Layton an he didn't like it much.
I still need to buy Layton vs Wright. It's a mark of shame on my soul.
I bought Layton vs Wright and will buy DQVII and VIII instantly.
I'm still not buying this DQ Musuo crap.
NO YOU BUY IT. I love it for the voice acting if nothing else (but I like the other stuff too)
I will buy VII but I expect it to bomb. The scale of it is just so ridiculous but I'm not sure it's going to fly with audiences over here this time. VIII is just boring. Nothing of that game needs to be re-released besides the soundtrack on iTunes. Musou I will pass on for a long time. I still haven't finished the Zelda one and right now I want a Gundam themed one for some reason.
I never bought Layton vs. Wright because I'm like three Layton games behind anyway. One day. Maybe.
i hate you a thousand times
I'll buy all the Layton games tomorrow if they put them on Vita.
DQ Heroes actually showed up on Steam briefly. No info at all aside from its future existence.
Fuck it, though. Koei makes awful PC ports. Still planning on picking this up whenever I get a PS4!
I pre-ordered VII and VIII I never finished either back in the day, maybe now is the time.
Nobody finished DQVII. Disc 2 is actually a video of the Step by Step episode where Urkel visits.
I sure didnt. I recall running out of puzzle pieces or whatever they were that opened up new areas and putting it down. Forever.
I lived vicariously through dog$'s posts.
At the time it was kind of horrible looking and so old-school in a time when JRPGs were trying a million new things that I couldn't get far, but later on the ideas behind it made me want to go back. This re-release will be me finally giving it another shot.
I finished it. I think that was in 2011, the year I played both DQVII and Xenogears from start to finish. That's a lot of hours.
I don't believe you.
~n_n~
Believe! That was the year of the short-lived TNL Game of the Month Club. I still remember the disappointment of discovering that the last disc is just a PowerPoint of what would have happened if they had bothered to finish the game. After 40 hours already invested. Best troll job ever.
i really liked all of Xeno before people told me the 2nd disk was bad and i shouldn't.
Heroes is now up for pre-order on Steam, releases December 3rd. Full of slimes.
Don't trust Koei PC ports! Get ready for 30fps locked.
Don't the hackers always fix it? I don't know what they do or why they do it but it's always better by sundown
I don't remember the PC port of Dynasty Warriors 8 getting that treatment. I would have bought it!
DQ Heroes is a fantastic and charming game, I hope it gets more attention on the Steam
I'm getting it on Steam, eff pee esses be damned.
Are the fps locks usually from being a straight console port? The PS4 version runs at 60fps, so I'd imagine we'll see that here.
Of course there will still be plenty of bitching about that too.
I think I'm going to reverse myself and buy this on Steam. My only concern is that I've never played a Dynasty Warriors game so I don't know if I will like it.
But I just realized it has Yangus. I'd play Gears of Stupid Fucking War if they could somehow shoehorn Yangus into it.
i have a hard time imagining that you won't like it at least a little bit
Started this yesterday. This game has teeth! You actually have to block and know how each enemy type behaves if you want to keep your combo going; it's not just another lawn mowing sim. Clogging choke points by summoning monsters and swapping between party members without interruption feels great and intuitive--battles have a nice flow once the game hands over the keys to all its systems. Not limiting the number of times you can switch between characters by tying it to a number or meter was a great design choice. Sometimes I want to switch to Isla for a reason and sometimes I want to switch to Isla for no reason. The designers understand this.
It's not GOD HAND or anything; it's still idiotic, but it is surprisingly good for a Musou game. That it's one of the best-looking games ever doesn't hurt.
Yeah, I let my daughter play it and she wanted to throw shit at the escort mission.
Yeah, after a certain point the game settles into a pattern where the first stage in a new area is just kill stuff, and every other stage is protect something/someone. Learn to love them monster medals.
Hey, alright. The sequel is adding some of those things I was hoping for.

The framework they've created is really solid, and they've got a bunch of obvious improvements they can make. Casinos (Maya actually laments the lack of casinos in this one). Dharma temple/jobs/weapon skills. Exploration elements. IX's grotto system for multiplayer. A much improved alchemy pot. I expect DQH3 could be the Monster Hunter Tri for the series. Hopefully SE doesn't abandon the series in the west before then...
They've also added fields to the game.Quote:
By damaging enemies, characters gain “Proficiency” on weapon-types they are equipped with. Unlike the Skill Points that you use on the character, Proficiency will allow you to learn spells and skills for when you have the type of weapon equipped
The two protagonists have a special ability that sets them apart from other heroes of the game. This is the ability to “Class-Change” and “changing weapon-types.” Each class has different ability levels, skills that can be learned, and their own weapons that can be equipped, making them all different in battle
You can go with the Warrior class to use powerful swordskill, or go with the Priest class to help healing allies, and many more. The starting job for the protagonists is Warrior, and they’re able to use dual blades, one-handed swords, and axes. Priests can use staves, spears, and clubs. Similar to other Dragon Quest games, you’ll get to change classes and they all have their own levels and Skill Points.
Using your own characters, you’ll get to go into multiplayer mode to play online with other players. The game features cross-play between PS4, PS3, and PS Vita, and it also supports cross-save as well.
“Co-op Play” will let you get help from friends to take on story battles with a party of up to four players. As previously reported, the “Space-Time Labyrinth” dungeon will allow for further co-op action against some tough foes. You might even run into some dungeons that are filled with Metal Slimes. This mode was initially announced as a multiplayer-exclusive mode, but Square Enix changed it to have a solo play option.
Now for the casino and improved alchemy pot...
And a full on create a character in the third game.
Is Torneko PS3 only? That's a bummer.
Maribel, though. Maybe somewhere Compass is happy.
I don't think they said that he's PS3 only, just that you could play with people on different consoles and they used him as an example.
Maribel is best. I wonder if we're ever going to get this in English since no one cared about the last one.
I bet we'll get a digital only release like we did with the One Piece Musou games.
Are we ever going to get the mmorpg so I can go play as deacon quest Mr satan?
I had a beta test right before e3 last year but have heard literally nothing after that.
Lol. Deacon quest. Good job phone.
I just started playing this on PS4. I got it in a PSN sale a month or two ago. I've never played a Dynasty Warriors or Hyrule Warriors game before, but I'm seeing now that it's basically beat 'em up tower defense. Only played about an hour so far but I'm digging the gameplay loop. Kill kill, bite sized story, and more button mashing.
I was arguing with my friend over the graphics. He said they were mediocre but I feel like they're top notch. I think seeing it running at a crisp 60fps and actually playing it helps. This is a series that prides itself on fighting 100 enemies at once or whatever, so it's a bit on the low-polyside. I think it looks great and captures what I feel like the Dragon Quest world looks like, minus cel shading. I really dig the lighting, which makes me think they pulled in resources from Team Ninja or something for the graphics engine.
If this game is similar enough to the Dynasty Warriors series, I think I understand why it's so popular. Simple, straightforward fun. No lengthy tutorials or cutscenes. No wandering around open-worlds. No complex skill-trees. I really love it, since I have a hard time dedicating to many games which end up feeling like jobs or maintenance to me.
I wonder if dog money ever got that Platinum. Starting a new game plus is actually the worst thing you can do if you're going for completion since you lose a lot of items and many of your counters are reset. You can easily get all the trophies on your first go. I should be done with this game by tomorrow and PS - I loved it.
The optional bosses at the end can kill you pretty fast even at level 99 with the best gear. Actually having to play and try for reals was a neat surprise in the endgame, but it's honestly still pretty easy with the right crafted accessories. Bianca and Terry are the super OP standouts here. The giant Behemoth fight is neat, reminds me of a MonHun giant monster event quest.
