Maybe if the Head Official told the crowd and the TV audience why the flag was picked up; this wouldn't be a controversial thing.
I can't wait till something similar happens in the Packers/Cowboys game.
Karma's a bitch, Mog.

Shit happens to the Packers all the time. I wouldn't be surprised. The one flag didn't blow a 20-7 lead either. And as far as karma goes... Suhs bullshit suspension lifting.
That's what I was thinking. If there was a reason for the refs to fuck over the Lions it would be that piece of shit Suh.
That call did not sink the Lions. They had plenty of opportunities to put Dallas away, when they had 10 point lead, and they just couldn't do it.
This is how the Cowboys have won at least 3 of their games this year. Their defense would get burned in the 1st half and then just shut down the other team the second half. Marinelli is one hell of a defensive coach, considering the talent he has to work with.
This is why the refs picked up the flag.

Well, not only is he wrong (you can argue that worse has been not called, which is true, but he's still wrong, this was definitely DPI per the letter of the law), that is not the point. He announced the penalty (after a small conversation, I believe) and then 20 seconds later said 'never mind'.
I think that is what people have real issue with. Because in literally every other instance I can recall in almost 30 years in watching football, if there's doubt, there's a long discussion (during which people boo because it's like 'well, is it or isn't it?') and then something like 'No foul on the play'. Not 'never mind what I just announced'
It'd probably be less bad if he said 'I misspoke, I just had my wires crossed' (which happens sometimes in booth reviews because they almost forget what the original call was) instead of doubling down on the 'that is not a penalty'.
This is such a bogus argument, dude. And you know it. If this happened to your team you would have gone ape shit. If that call benefited the Patriots the rest of the fanbase would have burned down NFL HQ.
That call alone dropped their win probability by 15%. That PI would have been them in field goal territory with a first down. They didn't capitalize on opportunities they had elsewhere, but it's a simple fact that the refs took away one of their best ones.
Like the questionable hold on Witten that took away a TD or the awful PI call on Williams that took away a first down in the first half? Caldwell had the opportunity to grow a pair and try to win the game.
That play probably was pass interference by the horrific current rules, but there is no way it should have been. There was minimal contact, and the pass hit the defender in the back, so how exactly was the TE going to catch it? Frankly, hitting the defender should be able to be used as uncatchable. If they want to bitch about the hold, there was one on Witten on the winning drive that wasn't called either. The difference is that Garrett went for it, and won the game.
edit: Mog nailed it though. Suh shouldn't have been playing at all. I'd trade one PI call for their best defensive player sitting out, like he should have.
None of this matters. Seattle has home field. We are all screwed.
Green Bay to start the season with a loss in Seattle and end it with one.
Was listening to Mike and Mike on my way to work and Cris Carter explained that had Stafford thrown a better ball, there would have been a stronger argument for PI. However, the defender made minimal contact and didn't have an advantage, so no PI was called. That said, I still think Dallas got away with a lucky call if you consider how the NFL has enforced its "any contact on a receiver past 5 yards is PI/defensive holding" rule this year.
But again, I don't even think that's the biggest problem people have with it. That doesn't get called all the time.
The issue is why did they, after 20 seconds, change the flagged, and more importantly, announced and marked off penalty? It's thorough incompetence at best.
Because to this day, even though I fully admit they played what was one of the worst SBs ever, I think Seattle got jobbed against Pittsburgh largely because I don't think anyone knew if Pittsburgh was going to get back soon (which they did). Don't want to be tinfoil hat man, but Dallas has a serious cap issue coming up (next year, as it so happens).
