So much this. They were basically the kings of being disappointing when getting to play their games until I learned I have to approach their stuff with the lowest expectations.

True. I steeled myself for Ni No Kuni in this exact way. "Ok, the gameplay is going to be basically broken, but the visuals will be so sublime it'll be impossible to hate this." I ended up loving the game. Maybe the fact that I haven't gotten into Pokemon is a factor - everyone else was probably like "OK Level 5 is totally ripping off Pokemon right now". Regardless, one of my favorites from last gen.
I bought NnK when it was $8 or whatever on PSN but it's so big I never installed it. I'll probably end up buying a physical copy at some point to try it out.
Funny how you will say the handheld games are better, then act like consoles have just as many fine jrpgs titles.
I never actually said handheld games were better, though. There are exclusives like Bravely Default, Persona Q and Shin Megami Tensei IV I can't play anywhere else.
This is gonna blow your mind, so you might want to sit down...it's possible to enjoy consoles and portables.
