Like 3 or 4 series that pump and dump while the Ds gets sweet sweet bravely default.
So get a 3DS.
No.
It's okay. I'll enjoy Bravely Default enough for both of us.
i hope they release the part of Bravely Default everyone hates and only that part on console/PC just because Iron Plant is such a butt about it
also reading that dumbass article that Yoshi linked (after seeing everyone else say how stupid it was), wow, this is some dumb shit. This guy's talking about how Tales of Destiny and the 1st Wild Arms haven't been bested while calling SaGa Frontier garbage. What a fucking idiot.
And talking about how great Ni no Kuni is and how bad the FFXIII games are
and Legend of Legaia? Christ, I'm surprised he didn't bring in some Legend of Dragoon.
i'm playing so many great jrpgs on portable and console, both new and ones that i never got around to that they could stop making them forever and i'd be set for the next decade.
I don't think people rebuying stuff for nostalgia is an argument for the sales of a new series.I just listed five series for you, and that wasn't even counting SRPG stuff like Disgaea. You could at least somewhat try in your rebuttals that also aren't counting all the one shot stuff like RoF and Time and Eternity. Even the Japanese are putting in more effort than you.Quote:

Disgaea 5 probably has some kind of weird Prinny tank in it
and the Final Fantasy XIII sequels would be seen as typically weird but great Tri-Ace games if people weren't so intent on hating FFXIII and especially Lightning. I don't get that at all.
i don't think anyone really likes Time and Eternity though
I like it.
I don't, though.
i know you're all buying Omega Quintet, the first jrpg on PS4!
http://ideafintl.com/omega-quintet/#/top
it actually doesn't look terrible and it's kind of an interesting idea. i hope it isn't too skeevy so i don't end up on a list when i inevitably buy it
No. You're bad. I know the truth and it's that your bad.
Ni no Kuni is excruciatingly uninteresting. It doesn't shit on anything besides itself.
I think pretty much all the Tales of games are crap, but they're still JRPGs that are being made. I haven't played Time and Eternity or Ni No Kuni yet so I can't really speak for how quickly they fall apart.
I do dislike Lightning, but I think FFXIII games do pretty well even with her bogging then down. She was even bland when she dimension hopped into FFXIV for a few.
Okay, so you weren't thrilled with Ni no Kuni. Fair enough.
But can you stand before a mirror, look yourself in the eye, and say that XIII-3 isn't terrible? Hateable characters, an uninteresting story that drowns in its own terrible mythology, that fucking countdown gimmick... Come on, let's be real.
Would you put it even in the same zip code as Bravely Default or Dragon Quest IX?
I'm waiting for 13-3 to hit PC.
Same.
I don't understand the Ni No Kuni hate at all. Getting me to actually finish it is a monumental accomplishment for a JRPG.
I've never felt such hype for a game and then lost complete desire to play it before.
I was so excited waiting for it to come out.
Then it did, and I couldn't care less.
I ended up getting it long after release when it hit 19.99 and only because I needed a third game for a buy 2, get 1 sale.
I swore I wouldn't play the demo because I wanted nothing spoiled, but I did play it, and it did nothing for me. Guess that correlates with the "demos = lost sales" thing.
Ni No Kuni doesn't have the most groundbreaking battle system (it's basically a Pokemon ripoff, from what I understand - I've never played a Pokemon besides Snap so idk), and the story is definitely predictable, and OK, maybe a little boring too. I guess I could understand why JRPG purists scoff.
But JESUS CHRIST, those visuals. They're the work of Studio Ghibli, for chrissakes. I also found the characters pretty damn charming.
It's the best JRPG I've played since Final Fantasy XII (note: I play through to completion about one JRPG a year and for example haven't touched Bravely Default though I own it and it's near the top of my pile of shame), and in my top 5 games ever for PS3.
I guess my argument is that for gamers who aren't JRPG sticklers, and haven't hit 100% on every Disaega or whatever, this game is a god send.
And if you deny that it's one of the most beautiful videogames ever made to date, you just don't have any taste whatsoever.
EDIT: If the Souls series counts as JRPG, this definitely isn't my fave since FFXII, but I doubt you sticklers take those badass games into account. Probably too much hand eye coordination involved, I assume? ;)
Level 5's stuff is almost always gorgeous (Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII immediately come to mind). I just wish the games measured up to the visuals.
I did really like Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest IX, and Fantasy Life seems fun so far.
Yeah, NnK looks really nice and it's cool if you like it. I'm way more negative about it than I need to be. Maybe one day I'll go back and finish it and like it just like I always do
Awesome. You should finish it up Finch. I reached a point, I think around the desert area, where I thought the game was boring and gave up on it for a few weeks. Then I went back to it and ended up loving it. The second half of the game goes by much quicker than the first half. Also besides completing the main game there's still some really difficult areas and enemies I still can't figure out to this day, if you're into that sort of thing.
It's a phenomenal game. Really one of the best JRPG's I've played in my life. Though, again, that's 90% due to how amazing Ghibli's visual design is throughout.
Just talking about this game makes me want to boot it up again.
What do you dislike about the Tales series? Besides Skies of Arcadia, the Grandia series, the Shadow Heart Series, and the Star Ocean series, it's basically the only JRPG that keeps me awake. I'm playing Tales of Hearts R, on the Vita TV, right now and it's easily in the top 3 of that series. Fantastic game.
I've heard Tales of the Abyss is a hidden gem. I need to find the 3DS version.
No you don't.
PS2 rev is better.
If I want kick ass Ghibli visuals, I will watch a kick ass Ghibli film.
I have extremely low tolerance for games that waste my time, whether that's through tedious cutscenes that tell me things I already know, frequently-repeated long and unskippable animations, poor UIs that require way too many button presses to get to commonly-used selections, or forced grinding. Ni No Kuni does all of those things.
For my money, Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is the best JRPG of the last generation. Well-written dialogue, slick UI, quick battles, no grinding, amazing attention to detail. It can be slow if you choose to talk to every character and do every subquest, but you are never forced to do that. For quite a while I was convinced that I just didn't like JRPGs anymore. I was wrong. I like them WHEN THEY AREN'T TERRIBLE.
The writing and the characters, mostly. They all tend to play out like someone read a TVTropes page about anime and decided that should be the primary foundation of their stories.
They are fairly pretty games and the battle system is decent enough, but they don't even seem aware of how boringly cliche they are. I just can't care about any of them.
True. I steeled myself for Ni No Kuni in this exact way. "Ok, the gameplay is going to be basically broken, but the visuals will be so sublime it'll be impossible to hate this." I ended up loving the game. Maybe the fact that I haven't gotten into Pokemon is a factor - everyone else was probably like "OK Level 5 is totally ripping off Pokemon right now". Regardless, one of my favorites from last gen.
I bought NnK when it was $8 or whatever on PSN but it's so big I never installed it. I'll probably end up buying a physical copy at some point to try it out.
Funny how you will say the handheld games are better, then act like consoles have just as many fine jrpgs titles.
I never actually said handheld games were better, though. There are exclusives like Bravely Default, Persona Q and Shin Megami Tensei IV I can't play anywhere else.
This is gonna blow your mind, so you might want to sit down...it's possible to enjoy consoles and portables.

Holy shit. HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! Mind. Blown.
Suddenly Schlansky
I think by specifying ports he's talking about stuff like this as opposed to making something from the ground up for PC.
But wanting the best systems while he's talking about the PS3 could certainly use your image.
xbone and ps4 don't exist in my world.
There is the last generation and my computer.
I like how everyone wants a HD remake of a old game and not a actual new game.
I want to believe that Square can still make a really good Final Fantasy game, but I don't. The last FF thing that I really enjoyed (excluding Theatrhhthm) was Crisis Core.
That leaves FFXIII (with spin offs), FFXIV, and Type-0. There's some good in there.
As said on social media:
I was playing Episode Duscae last night, Steph came in to say goodnight, looked at the screen and said "You and Depeche Mode have a good evening."
I laughed because it's true.
Looks like the mystery game might be Star Ocean 5.
Yes please
Enjoy your F2P cellphone Star Ocean with match-3 battles.
They said S-E not Level 5
So, $20 cell phone game then.
More likely. Possible sale price of $17
And it won't be updated for iOS 10 or whatever.
Remasters of VIII, IX, X in the vein of the VII remaster.
That wouldn't be surprising. In fact, the more surprising thing is that they haven't milked those for mobile yet.
Didn't they already announce the PS3 X/X-II remaster being ported to PS4?
Yes
They also posted about a FF7 remas---

Funny that i'm bumping this thread tonight. Eh, Joust?
BUT I'm actually doing that to mention Neptunia Re:Birth 1 & 2 are $8.99 each on Steam today. Not sure if I'll bite on this or wait for a Vita sale, though!

I can pretty safely say this is an article I never expected to read: A beginner's guide to JRPGs on PC. Yes, the choices are, uh, interesting.
Hey, I know the name Heidi Kemps. She makes one of mollie's podcasts unlistenable!
Ohhhh Heidi, I wonder if Ali is still desperately trying to bang her like he has been since she was in HS
Prince Ali
Fabulous he
Lol a single paragraph then 1 out of 10 pages?
Nope.
Aside from Barkley and Off they're all 10 year old console ports.
Fucking retard.
I don't think we have a FFX thread, so here it is, running in 4K at the 30fps cap:

edit: And then there was XII... right?
