Aw. But it was such a good old game.
picked up xwing and tie fighter, installed the 98 version of xwing. and as I promised myself I'd get one if this ever came out again, I bought a new stick. never thought i'd own one again. anyway, it looks like ass, sounds great and plays as well as i remember. in this age of fake retro looking garbage i'll take actual retro looking best game ever any day.
Wave two, including X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
Dark Forces, one of the better G rated FPS games.
Dark Forces was incredible at the time.
No argument here! I was amazed by the digitized stormtrooper laser gun.
I was blown away by how advanced it was in general. Huge (huge) varied levels with distinctive locations back in 95. That was before Duke even.
IIRC it was still the Wolf 3D engine (if heavily modified), they still couldn't stack floors properly. Actually I think I'm thinking of Rise of the Triad (maybe), Dark Forces had the multiple floors sorted.
RotT was a modified W3D engine. I think Dark Forces was Lucasarts' own engine and has sector over sector like Build (but not room over room, meaning you can't actually see any other floor above or below you)
Either way, it was darn impressive for early 1995.
Dark Forces was good, the sequel Jedi Knight was the fucking jam.
