Yeah, I've only been able to connect to 3 games so far. Each time it split one person in my party onto the other team.
I've gotten into a few at a time, but I swear in between matches is like rolling the dice.
Maybe a total of 10 matches though, in the span of a week.
I got into two games, and each one had someone who apparently has been playing Halo 2 nonstop since 2004. Not so much fun.
Guys, there's lots of campaign to play. LOTS.
Right, but I want to play multiplayer.
It's like you order an entree and pay full price but the waiter comes back and says, well we're not sure what went wrong with your steak, but here have some mixed vegetables while you wait.
I hear what you're saying, but there is SO MUCH GAME that I don't mind getting part of it now and part of it later.
Don't custom games work? I'd rather play Halo multi with people I know because everyone else is so much deadlier than I am and it's almost not fun.
I think people just want to get the full game they paid for. Same with DriveClub and whatever.
Yeah, I waited almost a week to pick it up and still have a fucked up multiplayer situation. If all I wanted was the single player stuff I'd have waited to buy the game.
I think CoD AW was the only online FPS that actually worked at launch over the past year. So it can be done, just not by most developers.
Patch came out tonight. I played a chunk of hours and it's a huge improvement. I'd even call it acceptable now!
I had the opposite impression! Searched for matchmaking 6 times and gave up to play Dragon Age.
I have no fucking idea what is going on.
It's weird, the one company who is usually best at this has completely failed.
It really does baffle me that they threw it to the wolves so early. They could have released it next week with black friday shit and it would have been fine.
Now I'm just playing other games, I can't help but think this is ruining the multiplayer community more than Halo 4 did, and I liked Halo 4.
Damn, that's a bummer. In my case I took the bone to a friend's place and the update was posted while we were driving there. Once the four of us started playing, we'd generally find a full party by 1 minute and be playing by 1:30 or 2. Not speedy, but consistent and good enough. Sucks to hear that's not the case for everyone.
I feel like it might still be that other people have been still playing and not downloading the patch, which would cause the matchmaking problems to persist.
It's going to be awesome if they ever get it together.
When they finally fix this shit, I'm going to be sorely disappointed that I don't have an Xbone yet (and that's bad news).
I hope there's a bundle someday with MCC pre-installed.
That's an awful lot of words to say "We fucked up".
Key words: "Over the coming weeks". Bleh.
"While our team works on continual improvements and towards solutions, my commitment to you is that we will take care of all owners of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand. Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans."
I wonder what that means.
They'll make it 50% off for Black Friday and charge early adopters an extra $30.
I honestly wouldn't look too far into it, that's a good way to be let down.
Microsoft is terrible.
means rebrand

I'm guessing longer H5 beta.
Or free Halo Spartan Strike
One free map pack!
There are enough maps. There are like a hundred maps.
New ports of Reach and ODST, free to all.
well it'd be really nice
I just finished the campaign for Halo 1, and you guys were right...learning how to drive the warthog in a straight line was very necessary in order to beat this game. Damn, that last warthog bit was freaking annoying as hell. A checkpoint, somewhere in the middle of that sequence, would have been much appreciated. It didn't help that the last level, preceding it has you running in circles for an hour. I'm mostly glad that I finally put aside my hatred for the FPS genre and finally played through the "almighty Halo." lol. This was a solid game, but I'm still puzzled as to why it received all the 10s when it first came out.
Played a good amount of matchmaking with Korly, Mog, Brand and some others. I'd dare say it was 90% fixed.
Well when you compare it with other fps games at the time it was a 10. The campaign wasn't the main reason why it scored so high either. The multiplayer was. Co-op also makes the campaigns much more fun.
I've been playing all the campaigns in order and just finished 3. 3 is easily the best game but that damn Cortana level really sucks shit.
The combat itself was way more satisfying and dynamic than other shooters at the time.
It was cool to join a battle in progress and have the people help out, drive for you, shoot for you etc.
The wide open design of the Halo ring itself was also really cool. The vehicles were really cool. I can easily see why it was praised at the time.
Well, perhaps I should jump into some multiplayer matches, to get a better idea of what people were excited about in 2002. Joining mid-battle and having people drive for you does sound revolutionary for that era.
Getting back to the campaign though, the actual shooting mechanics and the way the enemies react are definitely the best part. I just kind of wish there were more interesting level designs and a better story to go with it. There were way too many instances where it was obvious that the game designers literally copied and pasted rooms from earlier parts in the levels, and that broke the immersion for me. As far as the story goes, I kept hearing that Halo has an epic story, especially in comparison to Destiny, but the story here was fairly thin too. There is a good foundation for a story here though, so hopefully the other three games expand upon it.
Also, again, based solely on the campaign of the first game, I also fail to see why Master Chief became such an iconic video game character. He is quite a silent protagonist, with very little real personality. Yet, we somehow have a character who is arguably more beloved than Samus from Metroid.
Overall, I'd give the first Halo a 7 or 8 out of 10, and I'm eager to see how the series will evolve from here. It's very exciting to have all the games in one package, on the Xbox One.
well, personality = tie, more people played Halo than Metroid (and more recently), so there you goQuote:

Chief is so rad cause he's a fuckin demon!
HE'S EVERYWHERE!
Boy, I really do not think these games have held up well, spending a bit of time with MCC's multiplayer tonight. Halo 1 might not as well have been included, because it's so bad at this point. The others are still fun in some ways, but very antiquated in others.
I actually enjoyed how the Halo 5 beta felt, so I'm thinking that if I seriously jump back into playing, it'll be then.
I've been playing Halo CE on PC for ages and still enjoy it. User-made maps and kb&m controls certainly don't hurt, but I think even without that stuff, it would still be a fun game.
I'm through chapter 6 of 15 on Halo 2 now....and yeah, this is much better than the first game. Better pacing, a more fully fleshed out storyline, and less repetitive environments make this the clear winner so far.
Plus jumping up in motherfuckers faces while dual wielding and pulling both triggers.
And lazer swords.

Last month, I promised the Halo and Xbox community that addressing the matchmaking issues and other bugs impacting players’ experience with Halo: The Master Chief Collection was our #1 priority. We’ve been working around the clock deploying weekly content updates and numerous server-side adjustments that have shown good results and we’re encouraged by the feedback we’re hearing from you. Another big hurdle was overcome when we added fan-favorite playlists, such as SWAT and Halo: CE, back to our matchmaking menu and we plan to add more soon. Next week, we’ll release a content update that will add all 10 episodes of the cooperative experience “Spartan Ops” for Halo 4, and will address other issues. I assure you that the team will continue to work on additional content updates to further improve the all-up gameplay experience.
This has been a humbling experience and highlighted how we as a studio can – and need – to do better for Xbox fans around the world. We are so grateful to our fans who have stood by our side and we appreciate all of your patience as we worked through these issues. As a token of our appreciation and to thank fans for the continued support and understanding, we will be offering the following items, for free, to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection online since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).*
1 Month of Xbox Live Gold
Exclusive In-Game Nameplate
Exclusive In-Game Avatar
* For specifics on eligibility and further details on the offer, visit the FAQ at: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/c...-thank-you-faq
Additionally, you’ve told us that you want more Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer map content and Halo 3: ODST on Xbox One. As a future bonus, we’re going to make these happen and give them to you for free. We are just now starting work with our partners to bring both to Halo: The Master Chief Collection and will share more specific details on timing in the coming months. But for now, here’s what you can expect:
Halo 3: ODST Campaign – Development has just started on the campaign for Halo 3: ODST, which will be available within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and upgraded to 1080p resolution, running at 60fps. It will be available for free to anyone who has played Halo: The Master Chief Collection since launch (11.11.14) through today (12.19.14).* Thanks to our friends at Bungie for creating the original “Halo 3: ODST” campaign.
“Relic” Halo 2: Anniversary Multiplayer Map – Available via a free content update to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, we will reimagine the fan-favorite map “Relic,” fully remastered and running at 1080p resolution and 60fps. We chose this map based on its suitability for Slayer and Objective modes and its ability to support teams of varying sizes. And you can trust that Certain Affinity will tune and tweak the map to make it even better than you remember.
The satisfaction and joy of our fans is absolutely critical to everyone at 343 Industries and we regret the issues and the frustration you have endured. We are truly sorry and thank you for your continued patience and support of the Halo franchise.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Ross
Head of 343 Industries
I figured.
Ha.
Those are good apology prizes, didn't think they'd be doing ODST so soon but I'll be looking forward to that remaster.
I fucking suck at Halo.
So apparently 343 will be doing beta testing on content updates.
I mainly play the game for campaign with an open possibility for coop with you guys but the multi-player situation just keeps getting wackier.
fuck this game
I thought about giving that beta a try until I read this...

Q: Will I still be able to use multiplayer matchmaking against other players that don’t have this content update?
A: No, during the time of this beta test when this content update is installed, you will only be able to be matched with other players that also have the content update.
I don't give a fuck, I barely play it as is. I opted in and will try it.

Patch hit today. Sounds like multiplayer is working as intended.
Was just going to update the thread too, hopefully it'll go all uphill from here.
