IMO Majora's is still the best 3D Zelda. It's so unique and weird.
Used to love that show. Joe Bob is great.

This is as easy money as it gets. They take an old game, use the engine they wrote for OoT 3D, redraw some textures, and get sales. Do you think it is going to bomb and sell 20,000 copies or something?
Any series that consistently gets 3+ million in sales on a single platform is pretty relevant IMO.
I could smear shit on all my walls and it would be a unique and weird way to decorate an interior.

I don't think we've ever actually interacted! Hi Sparky, how've you been?
Seeing footage of Majora's Mask 3D since the recent Direct, I'm floored by how great this looks.
I don't know how long the theory has been around but I just found out about the Link is dead in Majora's Mask theory. Cool theory that makes sense and oddly adds to my anticipation of playing through the game again.
I'm gonna give this one another shake, because having a more detailed notebook sounds like it'd alleviate a lot of issues I have with the original.
I'm not. I'm skipping it because I know I won't play it, just like I never played OOT3D when I had that.
I'm sure it's great though.
Loving what Geo is up to here.
So meta
It's a race between this and Bloodborne for my personal 2015 GOTY, unless something else more innovative or cool is released. I doubt it
I went back to my old save file and tried to play through the second dungeon over the weekend on N64.
I did a bunch of annoying fetch quests to unlock the dungeon, took a long time to beat the level and its boss, had to carry a powder keg up a mountain so I could enter (and win) a Goron race, and then I tried to give the gold dust I won to the blacksmith so he would upgrade my sword. But by now it's day three, so the blacksmith couldn't do shit for me.
That means I have to reset time to day one, beat the dungeon boss again, buy another powder keg, win the race again, and fast forward time until my sword upgrade is finally ready.
Fuck this game and it's stupid, unnecessary time mechanics.
I'll probably try doing the third dungeon this weekend.
Coming back as the dead Goron hero and seeing the reactions of everyone in town was a cool moment with many feels -- especially after you restore warmth to the land. So I'll give this game that.Quote:

But most of the game so far is just doing dumb fetch quests for dumb NPCs to get more masks/items that will open up the dungeons, which are way too few in number, though they are pretty well designed.
I've never liked any 3D Zelda. Wind Waker was the most tolerable, but it was still pretty bad.
The series just did not survive the transition into 3d.
I beg to differ. The eloquence of 3d zeldas grandeur is dimmed only thru the darkness of those cursed gamers who cannot see the light http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tnl/thr...rated-Game-OoT
So I've heard that a Fortune 500 company uses Majora's Mask as a test of executive function and time management skills, so if time runs out mid battle on Odolwa while he's chanting shit like a Paul Simon backup singer, they know that person is too stupid to be able to get the McIntire Portfolio ready for a Thursday midday meeting.
The only real problem with MM is that it's too easy. Windwaker was better not because it was harder but because the combat was a little more fun. Also it was beautiful. But MM was good. If they just ramped up the difficulty to be actually challenging then the 3d Zeldas would be ok. I dunno. Windwaker oozed charm and personality, MM had the most funky shit going on, TP and Skyward were both kind of boring offerings that felt like going through the motions of zelda fetch quests. OoT was kind of like that too but it was first so it wins points.
MM and Windwaker are different enough to be worth playing. They're the only 3d Zeldas I would recommend to a gamer who hasn't played them. MM is just such a unique concept, there really isn't a game out there like it so it's worth your time.
It's Cheebs. I believe every word.
Check out the eShop! Somg of Storms!
I did, because he's true. I've beaten every 2D Zelda but run out of steam on every 3D Zelda.
This game came out on N64 when I was still living at home with two brothers. All other games had three save slots, so we each got a file. Since this one only had two, I let them have first dibs and just never got around to playing more than a few hours of it.
I'm excited to play this again. My memories are really vague, but I do remember enjoying it.
The graphics on this are a huge upgrade, they took the time to actually remodel
Goron Link when he's rolled up so his face etc has shape and he's not just a disc with a rolled up Goron texture, no detail seemed too small for them to fix. Wasn't OoT 3D just a retexture?
The c-stick works great, I still R button centre my camera instinctively though, old habits die hard.
The new bombers handbook is like a quest log, and they come up to you a lot and give you breadcrumb quests.
OoT got remodelled, and updated animations in areas too, along with the updated textures. Same with this.
I bought this and played through the first dungeon.
It's been a joy to play. This game is really charming. I love all the character animations, from the Happy Mask Salesman's rollercoaster emotions to deku-Link shrugging, to the way the tied up monkey happily claps his feet. It's all very cute, and really helps counter the dark undertones and the dread you feel as you watch the world prepare for the end.
I cracked up when I got the Mask of Scents and the backside of the mask is literally a butthole. I went looking for an image and the N64 version definitely doesn't have that.
So far I'm enjoying this a lot more than the last time I tried playing MM on N64, but a lot less than playing Majora for the first time (where I was an asshole college kid who spent more time playing videogames than getting good at real shit, so take that into account).
The changes to the game are definitely improvements and make playing more manageable and even fun again! Although I'd still recommend Link Between Worlds over this or OoT.
LBW is REALLY good, though I don't know about recommending it over OoT.
I would. I'm playing OoT right now. There are too many stretches of nothing happening. The dungeons feel like Doom when you've killed all the enemies but still can't find the key card. It's still super fun, it just rarely lets you forget that it's 17 years (o god) old.
LBW is airtight.
That was a better analogy when you used it for JSRF you repeating hack.
It's a really useful analogy!
The only aspect of OoT that even rates next to LBTW are maybe the boss fights.
LBTW is the best Zelda that wasn't on the NES. I just want a 60 FPS version of the original now.
LBW is very smooth but i don't really like it as much as MM, TP, or WW. It's fun to play, it's fast, the music is amazing, and while it's my favorite of the 2D Zelda games, i like the worlds and characters of the 3D games. LBW doesn't come close to even OoT on that front.
But they're two mostly different types of games, so i'm okay liking both for what they are.
Ha ha, i'm lying because 2D Zelda is TRASH.
I'll concede the point on characters, you're right. Although Ravio goes a long way towards balancing that score by himself.
Nothing compares to Majora's Mask on that front, but I feel like it's the only one that really benefits from them in the first place. I loved WW, but felt like it had a lot of wasted potential (best combat of the 3d games but no challenge at all to take advantage of it and there should have been way more dungeons and interesting shit to find rather than just dipping the grappling hook, etc.) but instead too much focus was put on characters to pick up the slack. The two best games in the series hardly depended on characters at all.
Folks like Zelda and it's nice not having to own a god-damned N64 to play it, I guess.
Niche title went rogue
It has such a small fanbase. I'm glad this title finally made Nintendo some money.
