I like the graphics and music in All Stars, but the momentum is definitely different and worse. Still fun, but I usually play the NES ones these days now that I can do save states.

I grew up with 1, land and world. We didn't have rental place near by. I only got the pack ins.
That said, 3 is amazing compared to us or jp 2. Huge jump in gameplay.

I just thought of another one. The Daytona remakes on the Saturn and Dreamcast were balls compared to the Saturn original. They got better graphics, sure, but the control took a nose dive. And biggest of all, if you don't have the original Saturn sound track, you're listening to it wrong.
The Dreamcast (and later) ports fuck up in not having The Horse.

CCE and the DC version are best when you consider them they're own thing and not ports of the arcade game. It takes a bit to tweak the controls but once set they are fine and both are a blast.
Also, original music hack for DC Daytona is out there.
