I recall reading something about that fan remake being influential in Capcom's decision to do the official one.

Why? If you play with someone else's toys your work is forfeit when they say it is.

If I can play it with RE4's camera then sure, otherwise I won't bother at all with this.

I wouldn't mind both although Resident Evil 3 is the game that aged the least well in terms of visuals.
