What Are You Playing? (Winter, 2014-15)

So I'd heard, which motivated me to finally play through this. My son beat it three years ago, and I've got this thing where I hate playing games he already played. But it looks totes cute and the three amigos were talking (sometimes yelling) about the series on that one podcast. So yeah, SAO backburnered, and I'm doing this and mostly enjoying it. (If I already talked to the miner once, why did I have to go back to him to get a key? Why couldn't he have just given it to me the first time?)

Actually, I started playing it because I had to get new tires for my van and knew I'd be sitting in the waiting room for a bit. I'd left my Vita at work so got out my PSP GO and said, what can I play for a lil while? This was already on it (I started it forever ago, but wasn't in the mood for the talkiness of the beginning so only played about 20 minutes) and the rest will be history.

Beat GTA5 then immediately went back and played it again to exploit the assassination missions. Now I own all the properties, vehicles, and guns but I feel so empty.

Monster Hunter 3U Wii U. I'm liking it quite a bit, though the camera can be irritating at times. I can't wait to play Monster Hunter 4U. I enjoyed the demo.

Going through Samurai Shodown Anthology on PS2 one game at a time, just finished 1. Best way to dig in to a fighting game series, starting at the first.

Amakusa's still ridiculous, and the same tricks to beat him still work.

SamSho 2 is more beautiful than I remember, the shift between 1 and 2 is kind of amazing.

SS2 is one of my favorites, I honestly don't think any of the sequels compare.

I remember 3 dropping the ball and 4 trying too hard to fix 3 instead of moving forward, never played 5 or 6.

Gunstar Heroes This game is awesome but how am I supposed to beat Seven Force? In serious need of a Pro Tip right now. I cleared the dice maze and 2 other stages but can't make a dent on Seven Force. I've only reached the 3rd of 7 bosses and have died about 50 or 60 times so far. Fucking brutal. Help!

SamSho 3 is interesting. I used to hate it, think it was too lacking in features and characters compared to SS2, just played so weird, and was desperately in need of better balancing. Looking back at it now, though, I appreciate it more. Yeah, SS4 is probably the better game overall, but it feels weirdly by-the-numbers compared to SS3, and something happened to the sprites between the two games to make them look noticeably worse.

SamSho 2 is still far and away my top choice, and after that, the second-best SamSho game is... well, Last Blade 2. Then probably Last Blade. *heh* But SS3 is still fun to break out and play at times, and appreciate the chances that were taken with the game.

I'm not sure if the sprites changed between 3 and 4, but many of the backgrounds are a lot lighter in 4 which makes for worse contrast.
