Did you play Real Steel: The Video Game
Did you play Real Steel: The Video Game
Steel Gunner 1 AND 2, some nice Shirow-looking designs in those.
For the past 5 years or so I've been only recording things that could be reproduced live. No layered guitar parts. By this I mean if there is there a solo or a melodic guitar part that there won't be a rhythm guitar playing at the same time. If I'm playing in a 3 piece there isn't anyone else playing guitar, so who is phantom man playing that part? Does that make sense? Sure it'd be fuller and "better" with another guitar, but then it doesn't sound "right" to me.
Or perhaps recording on tape instead of a computer. There is less you can do to fix things and forces you to sound (mostly) like you sound. You have a finite amount of tracks to work with, and you have to be more creative in how you use them. Maybe you've run out of tracks for guitar, but theres a cool little lead you want to do so you record it on the channel the main vocal is on and fix the levels on the fly when doing the mix. Maybe your sprites can only be 3 colours, so you have to stack a bunch of them in order to achieve the desired effect. Maybe you need to record the drums with 4 mics instead of the customary 12 or whatever.
I'd do it when sending in a demo tape, yes, but most people probably wouldn't.
Perfect example.
No, I heard it sucks and I am not a fan of this dumb movie.
In addition to those two, off the top of my head:
Steel Battalion
Steel Reign
Steel Talons
Red Steel 1 and 2 (1 do suck, but 2 is decent)
Birds of Steel (this is good!)
Steel Diver
Steel Metal Strangers.
Balls of Steel was a PC pinball game
Eggs of Steel, motherfucker!
Beneath a Steel Sky
Steel Harbinger
Max Steel (Dreamcast hey oh!)
In short, KoF is a liar.
Oh, and what I came here to post was this:
If there were a book or website that got into shit the way that style guide does, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I don't care about technical jargon, but I love "This was a problem developers faced. This is how they got around it" type stuff.
