tl;dr
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) wants it to be legal for gamers to set up fan servers for "dead" multi-player games. This involves modifying hardware and software.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) argues no, because of piracy.
Fan servers will be out there regardless, this would only make it legal. I like the idea.
The way intellectual property laws are set up in this country, I would be SHOCKED if there was any movement on that.
letting the public own/use things after companies make their money on it is the only way anything will last.
Sure glad they didn't have copyrights when we invented fire, shelter, or talking.

The point here is that those 5 people should be able to play the game they paid for whenever and however they choose to. In what way would it be hurting the copyright holders to allow people to play games they don't even sell anymore?
Because you don't own software, you own the license to use the software?
I think it's bullshit, but it's how they do.
