You're taking a 30,000 foot view, here. Of course you can't lump all criminals as innocent or justified. Outside of Josh and IF, nobody is saying they should be committing crimes.

What I'm saying is that, in this instance, the people committing the criminal activity feel justified. And while most people committing a crime probably feel that way, the circumstances surrounding it in this kind of instance (reaction to police violence and its perceived connection to race) are entirely valid reasons for them to be upset. So calling them "thugs" and outright dismissing what is happening devalues their completely understandable anger.

A conservative would flip that around and say that what they are doing devalues it but that's a perspective problem - they're failing to understand just how frustrating it is to keep hearing about unarmed black men being killed by police. EDIT: My "more articulate conservative" would then share a story about a white person being killed by police, and then that would be parroted by the majority of them.

I get your point and it's admirable to separate the actual black criminals from the black populace, especially in the face of the "blacks commit more crimes" malarkey. You just need to zoom in a bit.
