I can't tell you how angry this makes me. I think her heart is in the right place. But... man.
I want to know what pain she felt upon hearing that word. What deep nerve did it strike.
Her cunt, hopefully.
I like this one.

Outstanding.
Rep sent. Wow.
The reason I'm 30,000 feet out is because it is a national problem effecting millions. It's also a giant feedback loop no one can acknowledge without pulling back that far. The crux of my argument is this:
(1) African American Unemployment is 2x the national average
which could cause
(2) African Americans to commit 2x to 4x the number of crimes
which could cause
(3) Police to profile and use excessive force
which could cause
(4) Protests in the community
which could cause
(5) Opportunists to riot and loot
In which
(6a) Conservatives view the actions as a result of only the (2) criminal behavior
And
(6b) Liberals view the actions as a result of only the (3) police profiling and excessive force and (1) lack of employment and social opportunities
Both of which
(6) Ignore other cause and effects, normalize the behavior, and ultimately generalize the community into a stereotype
Which could cause
(7) employers to view African Americans as a risk and less likely to hire, banks less likely to lend, etc, etc, etc...
Which could cause
(1) African American Unemployment to be 2x the national average
Rinse, repeat.
1 & 2 are based on US gov data the rest are observations of the post Treyvon protests, media coverage, and social media posts. There are other factors in play, such as single parent households and what not, but in the topic of police brutality, and negative stereotypes, this is the essential cycle which needs to be broken.
Here's a fantastic article with David Simon. Long read, but really insightful.

HMMMM.
Isnt that what they said in the wire?
Protip: the Wire is a very accurate depiction of Baltimore sometimes.
Tonight I went to the Seattle protest. While everyone was singing songs, lying in the street and mugging for the camera I went around and talked to spectators in the crowd about the necessity of taking to social media for news, especially news on Baltimore. I explained hashtags to people that had never heard of them before, and showed an older gentlemen how to search twitter on his iPhone. I had a lot of good conversations, then I got surrounded by bike cops for about an hour and wasn't sure if I was gonna get to go home. I talked with one of them for a bit, and I got to leave. I have no idea what happened after I left.
btw, I met this guy today. The construction worker looking dude in the background and I may or may not have kept him from getting his ass beat about 6 minutes after I took this.
This video goes on for quite a bit longer, but this is the best part. I also eventually fuck it up because I'm shaking from trying not to laugh, and then eventually I'm just snorting and laughing right into the microphone.
You see this guy get snatched up at 1:11.

That's a pro level abduction. He turned up after about 3 hours, btw. Was in jail.
He's a charismatic, young, smart black protest organizer. People feared the worst.
Lol fuck that guy. Shouldn't have been out past 10.
http://gothamist.com/2015/04/29/nypd...protesters.php
NYPD gotta NYPD. Looks like they're sick of marches and protests now.
Also, rights.
Excuse me, this is the Baltimore thread. Seattle gets a pass because Josh is Baltimore.
We are standing here to protest the tyrannical modding of one Mr. Chux F.
I had to wait to turn right on red last night because four cop cars were going through the intersection. Fascists.
What's the F stand for?
(0) Urban areas have elected nothing but Democrats for decades
which could cause
The last time Baltimore had a Republican mayor was 1967. Maryland has only had two Republican governors since 1969. I don't see these people asking for anything to change where it matters.
edit: It's also worth noting that the mayor, state’s attorney, police chief and city council president are black. The city council is 100% Democrat too.
The African American unemployment rate in Alabama is 12.4%, which is more than double the national average. I guess Alabama needs to stop electing Democrats.
Democrats hold "about 65% of county offices, including circuit and district judges, circuit clerks, sheriffs, county commissions, school boards, coroners and various tax and revenue positions."
Source
edit: That includes the mayor's office in the state's largest city, Birmingham, which is as close as Alabama gets to the "urban" I stated. He also happens to be black.
Meh. Im not gonna sit here and pretend that a coroner's policy preferences matter. And Alabama Democrats differ in terms of policy from other Democrats, just as, say New Jersey Republicans differ from South Carolina Republicans.
And maybe the GOP would get some more of the black vote if they stopped directly appealing to racists and bigots.
All of them for almost 50 years? At some point it's not a micro issue anymore.
I don't think any of that changes that the people of Baltimore aren't asking for anything to change. Hell, how many protestors and/or rioters even bother to vote?
edit: Let's also not forget that when you go all the way back to the 1960s, it was the Republicans who passed all of the civil rights legislation over Robert Byrd's filibuster and somewhat miraculously got Lyndon Johnson, who had voted against it his whole career, to sign it.
i guess you take me for an idiot. After the CRA the parties flipped on race. Everyone knows that. Dixiecrats are Republicans today. LBJ even said it would happen when he signed the legislation. It is what it is.
Let's not forget that if you go back even further, "Republicans" were the ones separating church from state. And let's not forget that when you go back even further, a "Republican" was a radical "liberal" who opposed the monarchy and privatization.
It's almost like words change and what a party was called 75+ years ago has no bearing on what's happening today! Unless you think Issa and Cruz would have read Byron and sympathized with the French Revolution.
Yes. Traditionally the elected officials of the south are racist regardless of party. The school they graduated from means more than party.
Example: olé miss produces an abundance of racist
Why do they keep winning these elections? Where are the worthwhile Republican candidates?
What has the Republican party done for (and I said "done for", not "given to") urban minority voters to compel them to vote for their party? Also, in direct response to your answer to this question - why hasn't that been enough to prevent said Democrats from being elected for such decades?
The Democrats say they'll help and don't, the Republicans don't bother lying.
Maybe instead of fighting over how much the other party truly fucks them over, one of them should actually in fact help.
Nah, that won't work, they're too stupid to k- oh, no, that's not right either. Hm. Hmm. Man, this is really hard. Really hard.
Real tired now, boss.
Like I said.
Sounds a lot like the educational system.
edit: To take that further, I wonder how much unions in general have to do with driving the vote in areas like Baltimore to do what's in the interest of the union bosses and not the workers.
Police Unions don't drive the vote, they just have extreme power because they'll shut down a cities entire police force at the drop of the hat because they're not happy with some legislation that might actually hold police responsible for things. It's a giant scale hostage situation and the cities themselves are the hostages.
I know what you meant, but unions could be a part of the answer to dog$'s ramblings too.
Four unanswered single sentence questions are "ramblings". OK.
I would like to see the answers to those questions?
I appreciate Yoshi's meme Democrats are to blame, and they do a fine job of getting minority votes with nothing in exchange, but this is a broader problem.
Want to know what's wrong with Baltimore? Drugs. Well, not so much drugs as the war on drugs. Cops in Baltimore make street level arrests because politicians like numbers tho show that they're tough on crime. Cops make street level arrests because you get overtime pay for court work. These cops show new cops how to be shitty cops, the cycle continues for 30 years, and et voilà... welcome to Baltimore. Welcome to a city where even white people don't trust the police force.
Yes, this is touched on in the wire. Deal with it.
I don't think unions have the political sway Yoshi thinks they do. The New Deal was a really long time ago, man.
There aren't enough of those older black women, one of whom pulled her dumbass son off the street, and one of whom told protestors they needed to be smarter than that. Young black men seem to listen to the important women in their lives, be they mothers or grandmothers. A voice of reason could do a lot.
There are voices of reason. They're currently re-building Baltimore's neighborhoods, and you'll never hear about them.
I work at a place with a union and it sucks. Raises, promotions, any kind of advancement is a matter of waiting.
The Democrats still cater to the union bosses for some reason, right? They seek out endorsements and get on stage with them and what not.
Whose belief? I doubt they're lying to themselves, and union bosses don't care about union workers any more than the Democrats do. They both just want their cut.
Why are we talking about unions in a us with republican supported farm subsidies?
And how do unions relate to this thread?
I don't get it? He's not doing anything edgy for today's US, much less Seattle.
Edit: Maybe he was homeschooled and is taking out his adolescent frustration against his Christian parents on Seatle's street people, but it's hardly conflicting or entertaining. Now if he was at the protest in Baltimore signing Fuck Mike Brown, Fuck Thieves, Fuck Drug Dealers, and Fuck this Clown. That would be entertaining.
It devolved from bbobb's claim about police, but it was also related to the urban voting patterns.
As you know, I'm not a fan of farm subsidies, but I suspect less food would be produced if they were taken away, which would add a different problem for Baltimore or exacerbate an existing one.
That is what I was allowing to be insinuated, yes.
Right.Quote:
union bosses don't care about union workers any more than the Democrats do.
So. Do we allow that this is the case, for purpose of further discussion (and possibly having any other questions be answered)?
Can we attribute urban voting patterns to something more specific (or at least more expansive) than union buyout and sway?
Breaking up union power sure helped Detroit.
Dammit. I was about to scream WORLD STAR!!
More on the Freddie got hurt in the Van http://www.wjla.com/articles/2015/04...-him-prob.html
My favorite part of the video is the dude walking by throwing up a peace sign. Protest is finest at it's subtlest.
What did I say would happen the next time yoshi got off topic?
You'd make the thread all about you?
That's some smart timing.
Cheeks, I'd prefer to see and even participate in an active thread on this board, especially about something which actually matters like this.
I'm just asking the same questions as I ask my parents when they want to talk about politics with me or as I do out loud to AM radio - if Democrats are such gigantic pieces of shit, why can't the Republicans find candidates to consistently defeat them in elections?
Unfortunately, it's still proving difficult to get an answer.
It's difficult to explain but not difficult to answer. The answer is that most people don't vote on the issues or even with any information. They just vote the way they always have or something along similar lines. I suspect it's a frighteningly small percentage of people whose swing votes actually matter in any decently contested election. DC is probably the best example. Almost literally anyone running against Marion Barry would have been a better candidate, but that's not what matters. I'm sure there are examples on the other side as well, though they're probably in smaller places.
Yeah.
Yeller mentioned Detroit, so I took a moment to look up who Kwame Kilpatrick ran against in 2001. It was Gil Hill - best known for a role he played in some Beverly Hills Cop movies. This is the kind of choice which a mass electorate has regarding their prime position of leadership.
It's pretty difficult to not write the entirety of it off as nothing but bullshit pageantry.
Not surprisingly money is part of it too. Why would the RNC spend $0.01 to try to win 30% of the vote in Detroit? Going back to uneducated voters, sometimes the only education they have is a name they've heard more on radio or TV. It quickly spirals into a chicken and egg though, which is where I think you were headed.
And considering the vast amounts of money going into elections now it's only getting worse.
Yeah, being in a state with a key Senate race last fall was horrific. Almost literally every other commercial on TV and radio was for or against one candidate or the other.
It was a timing issue. I didn't want to stop and restart.
If I had the argument he got in before going "you know what?" and running behind the guy to pick up his guitar you might feel differently. The rest of the song was about Freddie Gray, mostly. He went on for a while.
I also LOVE the look over the shoulder "and fuck the cops"
none of this relates to what is going on in Baltimore. At least no more than the gender of voltron lions relates to toy voltron lions.
It's to be expected. News has slowed down, so we've begun debating concepts.
I don't remember the exact wording, but he was standing around telling everyone they were filthy degenerates and that they were going to hell. He implied that Freddie deserved what he got, and he wasn't able to respond to the dialogue I tried having with him with anything but "sinner" or "you're going to hell"
Sounds like a fun guy.
See you needed that for context. Without that, it looks like Noel Gallagher is just being a racist doing some performance art to prove white Seattle is too civilized to lose themselves to emotion and riot.
Anyway. Here's Wonderwall.
Wait. What's racist?
Noel instigating shit with whitey to juxtapose Seattle's civility in the face of anger in complete disrespect to Baltimore and Ferguson.
What?
It's performance art. The guy's 2DEEP4U.
This just in. Donte Allen don't work for the police and that ride was smooth!

I can't watch the video now, but dude wasn't in the van the whole ride.
