Agreed. Literally can't stop thinking about it. Have plans this weekend, want to completely ditch them to spend all the hours with this game.

I spent about an hour last night helping people take out the tree boss and made a bunch of souls. I've never played a souls game on release while it's super active, this is fun.
Also joined the Blue Sentinels and almost immediately got zapped into someone's game to help fend off three invaders.
What weapons are you guys using? I'm going with Astora's straight sword with a sharp gem infusion at the moment. I'd like to find or buy an Estoc to pair with it.
just started. took like 6 deaths before i killed first boss. 2 to get my katana. an i had to quit cus life. but its fun as hell. feels a lot better than DS1
I'm not far. I made it to what I assume is the 2nd boss. Some amazing looking areas in that first real level, I had to explore it all. I'm sporting the uchigoya?katana. Added fire to it and an upgrade. Also managed to make that dragon fuck off with 100 arrow shots. Lol.
Did you get the large shard drop from the dragon?
Yup.
This has a lot more in common with Bloodborne than it does previous entries in mainline Souls when it comes to gameplay. Low level enemies are much, much faster and more aggressive than in previous installments, and more often than not it's better to be aggressive yourself and stunlock enemies than play defensively. Dodge rolls are definitely preferable to blocking, at least so far. I actually think it's a great compromise, since I love how Bloodborne plays but prefer the gothic fantasy aesthetic of Dark Souls.
You definitely feel like you're witnessing the last gasp of this world. Death is everywhere, and all seems coated in ash. It's as lonely as the Souls games have ever felt.
There's quite a few things tying it to previous games that I've noticed so far, too!
- As mentioned earlier, the Firelink Shrine quickly reminds one of the Nexus from Demon's Souls. The Firekeeper's dialogue is very similar to the Maiden in Black's. I've heard there's at least one weapon from that game that pops up later, too.
- Andre of Astora (from DS1) seems to be the Shrine blacksmith.
- Siegward of Catarina is sure similar to Siegmeyer (DS1), right down to his speech patterns.
- The Young White Branch item description mentions Dusk of Oolacile (DS1).
- The Hollowslayer Greatsword description references Lucatiel of Mirrah (DS2).
- Those nasty brain...gargoyle...things that flew you to Anor Londo (DS1) make a return appearance when you fly to the Undead Settlement.
After a couple of Tree runs just for fun I went to +4 on my weapon. Now I can no longer be summoned there...time to find the next boss.
Just as I was about done for the night I got invaded- out of estus and low on health. Decided to get relatively close to a bonfire and pop a young white branch. Turned into a piece of wood and started doing laundry. It took the guy a good 10 minutes to find me, hilarious. I need to stock up on these things.
Played this for like 20-30 minutes last night, up to the first boss. Lv 1 Deprived starts with a lot of stamina. I was able to roll all over the place, which was good because as others have said the first boss is pretty quick.
I haven't gotten the hang of parrying yet in this game. Can you even parry with the starting Deprived shield? I don't think so :( LT does a weird shield bash/thrust move.
Really liking the beginning area much more than DS2. Really liking everything about it more than DS2, really.
Haven't tried it in the game proper, but I remember from the stress test that different shields have different L2 capabilities, so it's very possible the one you're using can't parry. On that note, parrying seems to work just fine, albeit the timing can be tough because yeah, these dudes get up on you. I've seen a lot of attacks that look like the have a decent wind up but then the attack comes much quicker than you'd think, so it'll take some getting used to for sure.
I only had 2 hours to play games last night and decided that was NOT ENOUGH so I completely forwent playing, which hurt inside, but I can't just sit down with this for an hour. It deserves better than that.
