I've been frothing over this for a while. The art direction is beautiful and the concept/theory/promise is incredible. I love the legitimate sense of mystery inherent in this game. The very idea that they've created a world that is impossible for even the developer to fully explore is fascinating.

I think the best way to get interested in this game is simply to hear Sean Murray talk about it.

Yeah, this is the reason I bought a ps4 a few months ago when i had a few extra bucks. Super psyched for it.

So this got delayed until June next year.

My money is on Holiday 16. It's just way too damn ambitious for that skeleton crew.

Well its the first time there's been an official release date of sorts, so who knows.

If anyone missed it, Sean Murray's demo on Colbert a while ago was wonderful. I'm still all about this, they can take as long as they need.

This has now been confirmed as a full retail / full price digital game. In fact, it even has a Limited Edition and an "Explorer's Edition." It's coming June 21.

edit: There's also a double LP vinyl soundtrack.

I might actually buy new hardware for this if it turns out well.

I don't have a problem with the price if it ends up being close to what I think it is in my head.

I think this one will be a boom or a bust. I can't imagine it just being decent because of its scope and promises.

I would be excited for this if Joe Danger wasn't terrible.

In for the LP if the music is as good as it is in the trailer.

On the one hand, that limited edition is really nice. On the other, I'm wrapping up my PC upgrade this week. PC wins, but I'm still tempted by the really nice goodies.

Honestly I'd rather this come out in the fall so it lines up with my schedule better. I didn't realize the release date was supposed to be so soon.

I just did something that's a first for me- took a day off for a game's launch. It helps that I've got a few left for the year and I haven't had a day off in a while, but the point is I took it for a video game. Current plan is to start playing the second the game goes live and sit back in a combination of annoyance and amusement as whatever servers keep people in the same universe explode.

I have this game preordered and literally no interest in a PS4 purchase in the near future. The sheer scale of it should formulate into issues noted so far. I really want to deck the dude who is bitching I GOT TO THE CENTER IN 30 HOURS. Your life must be a joy sir.

I left my day off as Tuesday because, while the web site said Friday for the PC version, Steam said otherwise. 50/50 chance one of the two was right and I guessed wrong. Oh well, Tuesday is a work day again and now I'm hoping for Friday off, but it's not the end of the world if that doesn't happen.

So this game is out tomorrow for the PS4 and I'm almost crawling up the walls to play it. I'm avoiding all streams and such because I want it all to be as new as possible. I wonder if the guy at Walmart is going to laugh when I'm there waiting for him to open the store.

I have off on Friday and I hope the game is decent because I would like to give it a go on my PC.

I've been on media blackout for so long. It's kind of weird, there are streams all over the place but I have no interest in watching them. Usually I'd have trouble not spoiling myself in a situation like this.

I just need to focus on finishing my work this week so I can enjoy it on the weekend.

Played an hour: Fixed my ship, discovered 3 planets and 2 settlements.

Ya, that's about my experience too. With the added bonus of getting lost in a cave for half an hour. Here is your non spoiler tip for the day. Stay away from caves early on unless you are Indiana Jones or some shit.

My first planet was Rampant Frontopia in the Chux Cluster.

Got off my first rock, went to another, hit up a space station and called it a night.

OK. Impressions.

What do you do? You wander around planets trying to find resources to continue your journey.

Is there a story? I would say right now there is the vaguest hint of a story.

Is it a fps? No.

Can I build a fancy castle like in Minecraft? No.

Whats the worst thing about the game so far other than not being able to build a fancy castle? The inventory is terribly small so far. It might get better with a bigger ship and such but right now it's irritating.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but it seems upstate NY had no faith in this game. One of two Best Buys didn't get any beyond what was preordered, one Walmart got 3 copies and another 5, and Gamestop has already sold out however many they had.
That means more people are coming here for a new release than normally would.
But that also means I ran out too. :(

Its definitely a more cerebral game than I'm used to. Not overly so, but like I said I did get lost in a cave for half an hour last night. The game isn't really going to hold your hand.

Is there an online component (something like Dark Souls)?

Does the planet exploration feel more engaging than say...Mass Effect?

Yes, but your chances of running into another player are infinitesimal.

So far, I'm enjoying just loping around exploring, but the storage space for items is irritating. How that may change is yet to be seen.

The only online component is a mild social thing, so far anyway. You might encounter a planet that some body else has discovered and named, like say Chux's Rampant Frontia, but otherwise I haven't seen anyone. It's a single player game that shares a universe with everyone.

In a lot of ways it's similar to the away team missions in the first Mass Effect, without the tank. You wander around scanning for resources you need, you find em and harvest them. You also have to keep your weapon charged and your suit charged, and it helps to not get too far away from your ship, because when you are in range of your ship you can transfer resources between yourself and the ship without having to be there. Magic or something. Plus Mass Effect away missions were in a very defined space, where as you can walk and walk and walk in this one.

It's slow, but I'm really enjoying all of the exploration.
I'm focusing on vocabulary so I can understand what these fucks are saying.

I found a planet where there were a large number of vocab stones lying around. I didn't want to leave I kept learning new words. I got up to 12.

I have 3 so far.

I've got 15 or 18, and some other alien languages too.

I did.

Told Atlas no. Probably shouldn't have, but I'm having just enough fun to beat down the frustration of not knowing what the hell I'm doing. Died about 15 minutes into it, because I can't let a sentinel go by peacefully. Well, until then I couldnt. Spent an hour and a half after that exploring, crafting, repairing, and upgrading.
Then the game crashed.
Set me back all the way to when I restarted after dying.
That's enough of that for today.

Captain's log. Landed on barren ice planet to see what it was like. Forgot I didn't have the fuel to take off again. Now I'm stuck in my cockpit waiting for this most recent storm to pass so I can hunt for fuel.

Some guys streamed being on the same planet (which is aparantly nearly impossible) and in the same spot and they didn't see each other.

So as of now your chances of finding someone are actually zero.

From a technical stand point the game suffers from some serious draw in and if you're going fast enough pop up. Also I've had the game crash on me twice. I was super fortunate one time I had just gone to my ship to offload a mountain of gold i had mined and then gotten out, which is when an autosave is created.

Yeah everyone is in their own individual instance.

I made it off the first planet.

Game crashed 3 times on me.

SOMETHING better happen soon. This shit is a yawn fest so far.

I'm about 4 hours in. Gave up trying to get to everything on the first planet. Traversal is a pain in the ass and I don't like using the ship because the shit that powers the thrusters seems to be the rarest element on the planet.
So I flew offworld towards a beacon, talked to an alien, and got the hyperdrive blueprint.
Lack of inventory slots, crappy traversal, lack of ship control when landing make this far less enjoyable than if could be. I'm having enough fun that I keep going back to it after a bit, but not enough that I want to play it all day long.

Hit melee and jump at the same time and you literally fly.
When you find signals that you can hack, look for settlements. They'll generally send you to a drop pod and you can increase slots there.

Anyway, I don't know if this is a glitch or a "feature" but a few times now I've on some planet pillaging it's resources and I've hopped into my ship to go to a new location. But when I launch I get rocketed right into space. I don't know if that's the game giving me a hint to get moving or what. I don't know what the problem is, if I want to Halliburton a rock in this game I should be allowed.

I also found the first planet I would consider naming as my home planet. I haven't yet, but I did actually name the planet (something I haven't really been doing much of. Though I did name one mushroom infested planet Super Mario World).

Same glitch has happened to me a couple of times. Very annoying.
I've only been to three planets. I'm up to 18 slots in the suit. Landed on a planet I renamed plentyofgold. Been mining/selling that in an attempt to accumulate $2 million so the next time I have a chance to buy a ship with a ton of slots, I can.
Hopping from ? to ? when theyre only 30 seconds apart and mostly lead to two small outbuildings - one of which is mostly empty and the other may have a blueprint I've already got- over and over is pretty fucking boring. It's basically mako missions. See the same shit amd the same layouts over and over.
One sort of highlight was spending 20 minutes exploring a cave system. It contained absolutely nothing unique. That kinda bummed me. One of the downfalls of procedural creation I suppose.

I have to be in a mood for the game, luckily I have been for the past few days.
It's not boring to me, but I could def. see how it would be for others.

I've also gotten the launch directly into space glitch a couple times. I was getting pretty bored last night, and then came across a wrecked ship I could take, and spent like 4 hours fixing that bitch up. I also got wrecked by a giant mech. Now that my expectations have lowered a bit, I'm having a lot more fun.

Good lord, that is retarded looking. All lifeforms I've encountered have been pretty tame.

The one thing that has really shined so far, is the score. Reminds me of old M83.

We need to limit procedural generation to where it can do some good, like character designs and stories of JRPGs.

I've noticed that the answers to the multiple choice questions are overwhelmingly "C." Like, of the many, many little puzzles I've dealt with, only 3 have been "A" and 1 "B."
