Why should it be hard?
Or, why should it be harder than illegal alternatives?
This doesn't have to be binary.

The 'No Borders' people are being near-sighted assholes. Societies success are in debt to the generations before them, therefore citizenship and the benefits it carries should be earned.
That said, making it excessively arduous and surpassing economical demand is a contemporarily obvious disaster.
I don't think it matters that much. You already have such a head start over them. Why make it even worse?
Well I agree it shouldn't be harder than illegal alternatives. But that's not a reason to just make it easier by itself.
I've been to job fairs as a company rep, let me just say I'm glad I am American and can work here without going through hoops. At the same time it's not like our colleges graduate too few Americans to work. I think that citizens should get priority.
Companies want more immigration just so they can lower wages. Look at the H1B program.
The article mentions that too. That we mistreat and underpay these people, even in highly skilled jobs, with the promise of citizenship.
Which is part of the problem for us naturally born americans. We are allowing business leaders to undercut us.
If you increase the supply of labor then salaries for everyone is going to go down. That's why every big company wants more immigration. All this stuff about bringing in the worlds best because America is just bullshit propaganda so the rubes do the bidding of the top .1%. It is just coming from the Democratic side.
Like I said look at the H1B program. Companies will illegally take advantage of it by firing Americans and bringing on foreign labor for cheaper. Nobody does anything about it. Nobody gives a shit. And guess what is part of every immigration reform? Massive H1B expansion. That can go fuck itself.
