The original script ending sounds great. Too bad they bought it and tacked on that Half Life crap. The movie was amazing and then severely nose-dived imo, the seams were clearly visible where additional stuff was patched in.

Knowing a little about the production and hoping you're a particularly astute critic for harping on it is certainly one way to do it. I'm surprised no one kicked the back of your seat with the 'incredulous laughing' routine, I would have. ;)
