aka Cloverfield 2. Apparently it's being snuck out in March, completely out of the blue. Premise is apparently "people living in a cellar under questionable circumstances, monsters have taken over the world."

Evil John Goodman is a great start. Mary Elizabeth Winstead running around without pants on is also a good start. Forsaken Monster Hell is gonna be fun.

Good taste! I dug the hell out of Cloverfield. All I ever hear is people whining about the college kids who were not even remotely the point of the thing.
Odette Anabel in the first was just unbelievably hot. I liked the movie as well.

I really enjoyed the original right up until the scene after the helicopter got swatted out of the sky. It turned real dumb, real fast after that. Everything up to that point was great, though. Fingers crossed for the sequel.
Saw an advance screening tonight, it was quite good. John Goodman was fantastic. Definitely worth going to see, just don't read anything on the internet about it as the twists are a good part of the fun.

Checking out of the thread then! Just saw Cloverfield for the first time and thought it was alright.
The connections to Cloverfield are incredibly slim. Honestly this movie is 90% Chamber Piece.
Fortunately it's a really good Chamber Piece due to how incredible Goodman and Winstead are.

The original script ending sounds great. Too bad they bought it and tacked on that Half Life crap. The movie was amazing and then severely nose-dived imo, the seams were clearly visible where additional stuff was patched in.

Knowing a little about the production and hoping you're a particularly astute critic for harping on it is certainly one way to do it. I'm surprised no one kicked the back of your seat with the 'incredulous laughing' routine, I would have. ;)

I came in to the movie completely blind aside from a trailer. The last 10 minutes had nothing to do with anything else at all. Looked it up after coming home and the original script Bad Robot bought made so much more sense before she became the one free man.
I disagree! That whole movie was displaying skills that ended up getting used in a practical monster exploding way, I think that's way more fun than having a well-trod Twilight Zone 'Oh Henry' ending (or just birds then credits).
I would've vastly preferred something more subtle. She was way too nonplussed about the reality of an alien invasion. The original script had her going to Chicago and seeing it in shambles, but I would've been fine with her just driving away. The tension of the situation in the bunker was all I needed from the movie. What actually happens after she gets out is irrelevant, and having it be something so outlandish and having her hero her way out of it was so far away from anything in the movie to that point that it definitely felt alien to me.
I thought how her choice of city was like the payoff for that I always run away monologue. Freaking lol.
Subtle is the norm, there are a million tv episodes that do that just fine. I'm glad it went with it.
I really dug the 'Ripley in a spacesuit' closeup just before climbing the ladder.
The original ending was boring.
The new ending is stupid. JJ's mystery box is always full of doo-doo.
This argument killed any interest I had in this movie. All I'll be doing is playing backseat director now!

It's an amazing movie. Just pretend the cartoon short happens at the end instead of before.
The woman and I saw this last night, and Mzo is right; it's a great movie right up until she gets outside.
The movie went from slow-paced, tense thriller to Michelle practically Rambo-ing her way through cyborg aliens (an exaggeration, but you know what I mean). I would have preferred the slow burn to have continued straight to the end, with the invasion revealing itself more gradually.
But still, very well-done otherwise. The ending didn't take away from the brilliant performances before it.

Also thought it was one of the better movies I'd seen in some time. The acting was solid, there was just enough "he's a bad dude, well maybe he's just a bit weird, no he's definitely bad, awe nah he's ok" moments to keep it interesting until the climax.
The ending was stupid as hell. Independence Day levels of implausibility.
The only implausible bit I saw was at the end with the flaming wine bottle. It blowing up the entire ship and her being just fine, if a bit shaken after being dropped, was pretty damn dumb. The rest was just running away from things and using the tools she'd already built, and that was something the movie had established she was good at.
Great movie, one really stupid bit at the end. I really enjoyed wobbling between "John Goodman is creepy-crazy!" and "No, this makes sense and he's just a little weird".
why would the ship pick up the truck, was it going to eat the whole thing even though its mouth was considerably smaller?
It was just silly.
