Some Ys games.
Why is that series so beloved? It never quite caught on with me, no doubt that it has an audience though. What is it about it?
Shit, I thought bumping uglies was right up your alley.
The copier tech at work randomly gave me an OG Xbox today since he didn't want to bother selling it. Urge to Outrun rising...
Phantom Dust it off
It's an action RPG that's fairly light on puzzle solving and focuses instead on extremely speedy combat (especially from Ys VI on) and properly difficult boss fights. Lots of pattern memorization right out of the 80s and early 90s. And of course, that music.
Edit: For the handful of kids that had a Turbografx growing up, Ys Book I & II was the killer app that nothing ever really measured up to again. It was so far ahead of its time you couldn't help but be completely blown away by it. I've been a fan ever since.
Ys I & II Chronicles is the most recent version of Ys I & II, as far as I know.
There's a science to the classic gameplay, btw. Any attacks made head on against an enemy will usually result in damage, but if you come at them from an angle and attack from the side you can stun lock most enemies until they're killed. You also gain the ability to use magic from a distance early on in Ys II.
Edit: Now that I think about it, wasn't it possible to attack using a button in that weird version of Ys I & II on the DS?
I was blown away first by the pictures of the intro in EGM, and even moreso seeing and hearing it in motion on display at Compucentre.Quote:

I went back to TGCD Ys I & II a few years ago and now I love the way it plays. It's atypical but it works. Those are some of my favourite games of that era now. The modern Ys games haven't gripped me in the same way.
EGM issue 1, Video Games & Computer Entertainment (the issue with the Power Glove on the cover), and word of mouth.
Ah.
EGM didn't show up in my town until late in its first year. I really miss the anticipation of when the new game mags would show up.
Never question the historian.
While I love the Turbo Ys games really wish they could fixed the choppy background scrolling.
Today:
FE Fates Special Edition $64 with GCU
And a large box of complete Genesis games off Craig's.
Whhhaaaaattt
Knowing his luck, I'd rather not know.
I think it's less about luck and more about his area.
Removing a dozen or so sports games:

Had few of these as bare carts, nice to actually see a Craigs Genesis lot not beaten to hell.
Agreed, most TNLers are in more densely packed locales. Even here though retro (especially anything Nintendo) has dried up from a few years ago.
Oh nice haul dude! I'd like to get a complete Alien 3 at some point.
I don't even bother looking at CL in Dallas. It's one big massive spam fest of I Buy Videogame, or Xbox with a thousand games installed.
I am surprised Low hasn't been stabbed yet. That's a pretty awesome haul, Gaiares!
He always used to get all that good shit before I could, it drove me nuts
Huh I thought you lived in Canada.
We are all learning so much about each other today.
Given that I'm trying to get back into Genesis, I'd love to find a haul like that.
Just get an Everdrive.
The everdrives are pretty amazing.
Prices aren't that bad for many Asian Mega Drive games.
Everdrives are a little different than emulation. You're playing the games on original hardware for instance, with original controllers etc. I've got somewhere between 100 - 150 SNES games, and just under like 100 Genesis titles. Any game with batteries are on the verge of having those batteries die (my Final Fantasy II battery already died). A few years ago I went ahead and bought a retrode and ripped all of MY snes games, game saves, genesis games, and genesis game saves to the computer. Now I play those games on an SD2SNES cart.
Everdrives are also really nice to have for homebrew games. A lot of those get updates and it's much easier to upgrade the rom instead of buying/making a whole new cartridge.
The fact I own a copy of Musha I bought at retail gives me a lot of relief considering how stupid that cart is priced now.
I sold MUSHA for a few dollars after getting Robo Aleste. LOL me.
MUSHA is on VC. I wish Robo Aleste were.
A Japanese copy of Robo Aleste is pretty cheap compared to a lot of good shooters from that era at around $30 plus shipping. You can always run that through an emulator if you don't want to pirate.
Some people just enjoy the process. Jesus. No one here is poor. No reason to scrape pennies together. If moll wants to prop up the worth of these carts, let her.
I think I just want to get Genesis games so I can pretend like I'm back in my youth and not old.

The only way to win is not to play.

The River City DS games seem to be fairly hard to find complete, thanks in no small part to GameStop.
I think it's because kids take shitty care of DS games.
I'm not hopeful for the lifespan of DS games. I've seen plenty that appear perfectly fine and only read half the time on a N3DS. Royal pain in the ass to clean contacts too.
Picked up a Retron 5 today. Pretty nifty so far.

The FO4 one is about to go to $50 with the expanded DLC plans instead of $30, and I had $27.XX in Steam credit.
GameStop has the RotTR one for $8.99.
GW2 was "free" after GCU and reward certs and/or gift cards.

No hate, but this is going on it:

This. I own virtually every Genesis RPG in physical form, but I play them on my MEGA Everdrive. Not having to worry about saves getting wiped and being able to save anywhere with save states just makes them so much more enjoyable now. No more having to redo entire dungeons if the boss kills you!
I have a bunch on mine. There's an excellent homebrew community for the Genesis, and many post their projects on Sega-16's forums. Wolfenstein 3D, Project MD, and others make having an Everdrive a great thing.
I was lucky to snag a loose copy for $6 about 13 years ago off McVan's Video Games. A local video store went out of business and sold me the manual for $2, and I think JefMCC here gave me the box. Score!
This is what I love most about the Everdrive. I have games like Nadia, Rent-A-Hero, King Colossus, Battle Barver Saga, and Psy-O-Blade are great to finally have in English.
That's true! That was the reason I splurged on the ME. Save states made Landstalker so much better, lol.
And playing Game Gear games converted to Master System form on Genesis is cool, too.Quote:

The things you own end up owning you.
I definitely feel owned.
I hate you so much.
Ouch
I have one from Best Buy due Thursday, hopefully it's packed better.
Also I may have another copy from Amazon coming early marchish, which if I do get it I'd be happy to sell to a tnler who wants it to play at regular price plus shipping. So if you're wanting one drop me a PM Gohan
I love you so much.
I want one of those. I didn't even know they existed until a few days ago.
Yeah,I didn't find out until well after every place had sold out of preorders.
I am hoping for a reprint...
Something like that.
Looking at that pic of the envelope, it looks like there are literally tire tracks on it. Would it have killed then to use a bubble mailer?
I'm not sure that would have helped if it was crushed.
Best Buy had sent my copy of Legacy of the Void in a bubble envelope. I was surprised that it didn't get crushed.

No, that's not the wrong game. I'm a decade or so late to this series, because Vasteel scared me away with a SFC one. With all the hoopla about Fates, I decided to try Sacred Stones via the Ambassador program, and it's pretty great, so I decided to start getting the others. I'm with lots of other people now hoping for a reprint of the SE of Fates. This one only cost me PS3 Virtua Tennis 4. I know I won't be that lucky with that one.
Yay! I hope you play it on non-babby settings.
Isn't ps3 vt worth like $3? Lol
Btw, if you have a way play the first GBA FE game, it's probably my favorite game in the series. I think it's on the Wii U vc, although the U is a terrible way to play GBA games.
I'm playing Sacred Stones on baby, because you don't get the tutorial otherwise, which is weird. Being completely new to the series, I'd be screwed without that I think.
Yeah, it is on Wii U VC. That's the plan after Sacred Stones. It won't be bad for me, because I just go across the hall and lay on the bed with the Gamepad.
The first gba fire emblem is excellent. I still have the original cart complete in mint box. :)
Got my Best Buy SE and it was properly packed in a box and looks great... Sorry arobimi
I picked up my Fire Emblem Fates SE in store at BB on Friday and its box is a bit dinged up on the side, though not quite as badly as ARBM's there. Thankfully, everything inside is fine.
The first gba game has a good tutorial for beginners to the series. It's actually the first story of the game, I was sad when it ended.
I picked up Shovel Knight for PS4, I was thinking back fondly on the 3DS version. The controller light changes different colors based on the situation! That's cute.
Nice to play on a good-sized screen, though I miss the 3D parallax.
Went to Gamestop, which is all but bare here now. They're even selling the furniture, but there were no cool racks to buy. They are having 50% off new games and 60% used, so I got Transformers: Devastation for $15, Divinity: Original Sin for $20, both on Xbone. I also got season 2 of the Walking Dead on 360 used for $5.40.
I can't wait for them to go out of business in the states. We haven't had a good 'major games retailer' implosion in a minute.
Best Buy is closer to chapter 11 than Gamestop.
Man, I remember when best buy was awesome. They've gotten so shitty in the past 5 years
I'm still torn up about Media Play. Not a cell phone for sale in the whole place.
Pawn shops used to be awesome, now they're just hungry.
Got that Pokemon Picross when I turned on my 3DS a few days ago, was all excited until I figured out they hid most of the game behind a pay wall.
So I randomly checked the e shop and BOOM there was Picross e6!!!! I have no idea when it came out but now I am a happy man!
My brother lives near a place in Atlanta called 2nd & Charles. It's a huge store that sells used books, comics, music, and games. Every time I visit I make him take me there, and it's where I spend most of my money.
I went back to GS, and it figures that TODAY they would give an extra 20% if you buy 3 games or more. FML. I did pick up the sweet End Level Amiibo display for $15. I have the same Mario at the top, too!
