Could easily have sold 2x that this holiday season.

Probably, hopefully they've finally got some time in a factory somewhere to make a shit ton more to ship out.

I would however, like to present a conspiracy theory. Perhaps the purpose was not so much sales as much as hype. The Wii U floundered, but this Nintendo product is hot, and you can't find it anywhere. Now, while it's still scarce, here comes the Switch, and now preorders sold out almost instantly. We can't miss out on the Switch like we did the NES Classic!

This is possible. It is also possible that they will release the snes classic next christmas and hope the hype from the nes classic helps.

Or they'll see what the Chux of the world are doing and say fuck it.
