They are not Gohan quality but it's pretty nuts how easy it is for people to whip up fakes these days. Very glad not to buy off EBay for games these days.

I bought an Alien Soldiers repo, it looks legit (but so obviously fake since the sticker is in US design).
That's the way repos should be. The fact that some people make essentially counterfeit versions of games bothers me.

It's not hard, but very tedious. You program your eprom, cut out the tsop-like chip that's on the board, and then run 32 wires from your chip to the traces. But since that chip is so small, I have to use kynar wire and a magnifying glass to solder it all together.
Here's an image I stole from a tutorial. That watch battery gives you a good idea of scale. See all those little connections running out of the top and bottom of the chip? That's what you have to solder to.

Gohan I'll post some better pics and open the case, I'm definitely not a expert on this stuff. The board was a cheap Asian one used in a few other games. No major complaints with the case, it's not first party quality but close enough. He had a odd mix of donor and manufactured repros.

I don't mind repros. For most of the games and tons of other ones the only way to get them is to buy used. Though for me I'll gladly buy a game on VC and buy the repro to play on the actual system. I have no problem with people making their own versions of released games. I do have a problem with people selling them. There are a million other ways to play a game if that's really all you want to do. But if you have a mental disease that compels you to have a cart on your shelf that says Little Samson and so you'll pay some pirate even $.01 for a bootleg, well that's your problem and fuck you.

I respect everyone's view on the subject. I enjoy the game library I've amassed as much as anyone with movies, books, or music. 10 or so bootlegs scattered throughout doesn't mean shit because I'm the one who will play them and happily acknowledge they are fake to anyone looking at them. And closeup if you can't tell they are fake...well you are fucking dumb. Repros are not a active interest of mine, the timing of ten games I have a interest in popping up cheap and close by was a much a factor as anything. Not going to purposely focus time to high quality fake game purchasing.
I bought some shmups on the Steam sale. I plan to transfer them to into gold NES cases and pass them off as Zeldas for a quick 50 spot.
Coming from the tape trading scene of the 90's, I'm all about bootlegs. It's an excellent way to experience something you might otherwise not get to. I'm not about losing out on life experiences because of some ill-defined morality clause some people have.

These things aren't equivalent. Me listening to a copied tape from a friend is hardly the same as doing your job for free - hell, most bands don't make a dollar from record sales. I know bands that encouraged people to dub their albums so that as many people as possible could hear it. Especially if it was a record from 20 years ago that is no longer even in print. Functioning as a reseller is a small difference between a bootlegger, a gouger, and a fan. I don't owe you anything. There's an argument that I owe the content creator, but I disagree.
professionals make music in order to get paid for it. record business tomfoolery aside, the contract is "I made this music, if you'd like to hear it-buy my album."
By listening to a copied tape, you certainly are asking the musician to work for free.
You've no right to content unless the content creator explicitly has stated such.

Your argument would be better suited if I were tilting against emulation. I have no problem with people downloading what the fuck ever to play on what the fuck ever. It's still wrong, but it isnt leading to the possibility of someone getting fucked over by buying a fake thing in the future.
To put it into your analogy, you listening to a copied tape is not the same as me printing out the insert of the original product, having a tape case made that looks like the original, and then pawning it off.

If he didnt make it, that person wouldnt have gotten ripped off. Do we blame gun manifacturers or not?
I guess I have an odd outlook on it, because I plan to make most of my personal hobbies public domain or very close to it, after I break even. Or at the very least, make $20 copies so people don't have to spend years searching only to finally be asked $100s if not $1000s.
I'm not really concerned with my investment or the worth of my collection. Preservation and sharing is bigger than that.

Passing repros off as legit is definitely a bullshit thing to do.
Here's the thing. Even if you put "reproduction" all over your cart label and put it in a purple colored shell, swapping a regualr shell and a label that doesnt say reproduction isn't the hard part of the process. Creating the board is. Not everyone can program and install a new eprom. Anyone can buy Low's $20 Hagane that looks like crap, and with maybe $10 more investment make it look legit, and then try to pass it off as such.
I have a bootleg copy of 36 Chambers than I'm still mad about. Sounds like ass, and you could cut bread with the edge of the LP. It was passed off as legitimate.
I would think the number of people buying repro's just to put them in a madden cart with an exact copy of the original label would be a very small minority of people.
I would think there would be far more Chinese people making new pcbs and carts as straight bootlegs.

I read an article recently about how Amazon is now flooded with bootleg merchandise, listed right alongside the real thing at an impossible price. People buy it, it's shit, they complain and now it gets a lower review or the manufacturer has to deal with someone who bought a fake. And Amazon doesn't give a shit.
Amazon is an increasingly problem in many areas. I give them very little business anymore, because I'd prefer not to be a party to them ruining pretty much everything.
Yeah, there are some items that I just will not buy on Amazon anymore, or will make sure I buy it from them and not a third party seller. A while back I needed a Xbox 360 wired controller, and Amazon was a heck of a lot cheaper but I still ended up buying it at Best Buy for the reasons Diff mentioned above.
"Ships from and sold by Amazon" is safe. Everything else is dicey

I never had Tryptacon or Metroplex. I had a cousin who had Metroplex, but I think Tryptacon came out late enough that I had started to lose interest.
On topic, I stumbled onto a Grimlock ornament in a Hallmark while my wife was card shopping.
I had been given both by a friend. They were cool, but I was always kind of disappointed about how they were barely bigger than Galvatron and Ultra Magnus.
The new Metroplex from a couple of years ago is really nice.
