He ain’t white, he’s Italian AND Irish.
I go back and forth as to if I liked him more when he didn't believe in the moon landing. I hated that shit, but I also feel like we lost something.
He....doesn’t believe in the moon landing? Seriously?
My comment about him mimicking the personalities around him makes even more sense now.
He came around on the moon landing. I think Neil DeGrasseJrHigh Tyson was on his show and sure enough, he flipped on his strongest belief. He used to go on *at length* about how it was a hoax for years and years.
That is....troubling. Also confirms my assumption!
I dunno, he changed his mind about that years and years ago. I don't think you should hate on someone because they're willing to change their beliefs after being presented with facts.
Joe Rogan is easy to hate if you haven't been exposed to him, he seems like a massive douchebag alpha male at first glance, but in reality he's a sweetheart who gets obsessive with things as a way to deal with his own insecurities. Sure he has muscles and hunts for his meat, but he is basically a massive nerd, he just nerds out about the stuff he likes rather than regular nerd culture.
I don't care about the "douchebag alpha male" thing, it's more that he's ignorant and gives pseudo-intellectuals a platform.
I'm torn on Joe Rogan. For years I thought he was nothing but a low-brow knucklehead douchebag bro, but I've been listening to some of his podcasts on YouTube lately and I've realized that he's actually smarter, more sensitive, and more open-minded than I initially thought. He's still a flake and douche in many ways, however.
I also like that he has a broad spectrum of guests representing the varying schools of thought and ideology. It's an entertaining show.
This is super important to stress. How frequently do we see people changing their mind these days? How often do any of us?
This is also super important. Something about Rogan himself bothers me, though I haven't figured it out yet. Aside from that, Joust's point is key. I don't want pseudo-intellectuals like Peterson or conspiracy morons like Jones being treated like the things they say have value. They don't. Call it censorship if you want, but there's no reason to treat people with bad faith arguments fairly. The "marketplace of ideas" is nonsense. Opinions can still be shit these days, and just because someone presents theirs under the guise of civil discussion (and especially if they can articulate that argument well) doesn't make them less ridiculous or less deserving of mockery. The tone of an argument doesn't dictate its worth, but we've somehow let that become the case.
Everyone should have a platform for expressing their ideas, just as the rest of us should be able to mock them for being fucking retarded.
I used to believe that. Let them have their platform, but not a commercial one. Fuck 'em. Infowars can have a web site and sell the supplements. MRAs can bitch and moan on private forums. What got us where we are now is letting that shit spill into YouTube (mostly) and the news.
EDIT: And, obviously, sharing that crap on FB/Twitter/whatever under the auspices of not policing things.
But what do you do when it's the US president saying 3000 people didn't die in Puerto Rico, that it's just a political ploy to make him look bad, and this comes only a few hours from a category 5 storm making landfall on the Carolinas?
It sets a destructive precedent though to assume knowledge is universal. Bad ideas, whatever they may be - flat earth, can not be known until they are tested and the worse the idea the eaiser it is to test. The real issue is the emotion attached to our ideas and ego. And some make the argument our emotions are a valid argument themselves. Maybe? But emotions are plastic and changing and more important the consequence of an issue rather than the cause.
Alex Jones’ and Joe Rogan’s Bad ideas should be shut down through argument and their emotions detached from the ideas, for their benefit and the benefit of those who may connect with them. But our current culture doesn’t care about that. What we want in the argument is the game, the sport, the score. We don’t really value knowledge.
Yeah, that's bullshit, fuck off.
Kill him and get a new President? I truly don't care any more. Those second amendment people have one thing right: We need to rise up against this stupid government.
What should have happened back whenever? Twitter should have said, "Yeah, no," and shut him down with the birther shit. But Jack is part of this whole, "We aren't here to police the public square we created," group. We don't pay for Twitter, which means that we are the product, which means that they are fine with a product that includes dumb shit like President Trump etc. And make no mistake - Alex Jones got banned because he said something mean to Jack. They were happy with the time out "solution" before that. Facebook isn't worth discussing, as its collapse is imminent.
Dear FBI or whoever, my words are my own and do not reflect held views or opinions of anyone else on this forum.
Dumb evil?
He's rooted in selfishness, which is why the R's love him. His selfishness aligns with theirs.
I'm convinced that nobody likes Trump. They just like the effect he has on people they don't like.
That's as close to like as a real politician really ever gets, I don't think that disproves anything.
What about Dear Leader? People love him.
This, basically. That and we live in a submissive nation which yearns for a strong leader, regardless of their moral character.
I just read the Hurricane Maria wiki. What a cluster fuck. The Puerto Rican government originally reported 64 deaths, then in February, 1,427, then last month, 2,975. How is that even possible? I know their infrastructure is down, but wouldn’t recording deaths not be a top priority?
Is a dictator a politician? Seems like you're just a dictator at that point. There's no politicians to run against.
Seriously, I watched that fat fuck sit there in front of the cameras and dislocate his own shoulder from jacking himself off so hard about what a stellar job FEMA did in PR and I literally was going "that's not true, that didn't happen" after virtually every sentence. The federal response took 2 weeks, which after a cat. 5 hurricane is FOREVER, and it was botched completely. The local government was complete shit as well, but it at least accepts the death toll numbers. Agent Orange just sat there and lied in front of the cameras and then said it was a liberal ploy to make him look bad... he honestly argued that the opposition said 3,000 American citizens died just to make him look bad.
What a piece of shit.
CNNQuote:
The island government raised the official death toll to 2,975 on Tuesday after maintaining for months that 64 people had died as a result of the storm.
But the higher figure, based on the findings of researchers from George Washington University in a study commissioned by the US commonwealth's government, is only an approximation, not a concrete list of names, according to Gov. Ricardo Rossello.
"This number can change," Rossello said. "It could be less, it could be more, as time passes."
How is the government in the digital age so massively incompetent?
There was a Harvard study earlier this year that said the death toll could be as high as 5,000 but put it more or less in the same range as the George Washington Univ. study. The PR government tried to hide the numbers but failed and finally accepted them. I really can't believe Gov. Rossello when he defends them now, after he spent months denying them. However, he has AT LEAST commissioned the studies and accepted the results. Trump refuses to even acknowledge how poorly FEMA handled the aftermath, and his tweet today wasn't just a typical Trump lie; it was absolutely repulsive. 3,000 Americans dying should not be an opportunity to make yet another situation about him, especially after his behavior on 9/11.
Well, saying and doing awful stuff is trumps schtick. Life has rewarded him with the oval office. Why would he stop now?
look at this mofo walking in from the cold.
It has been a while...... Yoshi still around?
no, he seems to be happy being miserable on twitter.
Oh yeah, he went full MAGA. He guzzles down that Comics & Diversity bullshit, too.
It's a shame, I rarely agreed with him politically, but he seemed to be a good, sane guy otherwise. Now the veil has been ripped away.
Why is he miserable if he finally has the government he wants?
Register/Log in and ask him.
:doubt:
LOL I’m not a mod.
Or maybe he just got sick of arguing with people who were too thickheaded to deal with. Not everything he said had to do with Trump supporting and he was one of our better posters on these forums but as he said, He got tired of being here just like some other people have who've left & come back as well many times before.
Life goes on for some people and I hope you guys who liked Yoshi don't go full on retard spewing hate about him just because his political views arn't the same as yours. I'd like to think as long as some of you guys have known each other for close to 15 years, you would be above petty shit like that.
Who knows, To me this place is like a dysfunctional family.
It depends. If he supports Comicsgate then he really is a goner. Most of the things we disagreed about - including the traditionally social conservative things - seemed to come from that "my hard earned money" place with him which, while not a view I share, I can understand. I can't see how fiscal conservatism plays into Comicsgate. Those babies are pretty clear what's motivating them. In fact, I'd be more inclined to believe that Yoshi would not support Comicsgate assholes, since making comics for a wider audience is basic supply & demand.
I don't even know what that is, but it sounds like something completely retarded.
It is completely retarded and those who are part of it are utterly pathetic individuals. I'm not saying they can't change, because I like to hold out hope, but I'm not putting a lot of faith in it. Bunch of racist, misogyinist motherfuckers who will only be happy when the world is as white and male as they are. Which makes this a perfect tangent for a Trump thread.
The funny part is that the -Gate suffix stems from the Watergate stuff. Yet, what the various -Gaters do is gatekeeping, so it's apt even without the historical context!
EDIT: There's Magicgate, too. The dude who runs a local comic shop and officiated two of my friends weddings punched a Magicgater for talking shit at some recent convention.
The -gate retardation makes me understand the need for minorities to collect.
Oh man, I get all the secondhand MTG tea because my husband is really into the community stuff. I think the biggest MagicGate is that one youtuber who would call women whores and was just a general edgelord got banned off youtube, but then Wizards of the Coast banned him from playing in any official games or online or anything. Wizards has been moving toward pro-diversity/pro-women/LGBTQIA and there's a subset of players who still think that gatekeeping is cool and for some reason cards printed with dragons and wizards on them are only meant for men.
The youtuber threw a megafit, and a bunch of people were like "reeeeee, wizards is anti free speech" but of course they don't QUIT THE GAME, they just whine a whole bunch and generally make it awkward for others.
Intersex & Asexual
Identitarianism will Balkanize this nation, and that’s a good thing.
If people are going to be stuffed (or stuff themselves) into boxes, then more boxes to choose from is best.
And it's not like these identities haven't existed before now, it's just that now we know they're here and are trying to make space for them in the world.
It’s just sports and picking teams, which is fine until you start fighting over who can be on your team and making your first judgment of others the checkbox they are not on your team.
This was fun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJ9FdRaTGEo
That's the guy who got himself assaulted. The best part is that after he got banned (from Magic tournaments too, I believe) he tried to get Gamergate dicks to support him and he was too much of a shitbag even for them.
The part that really gets me is that when you hit -Gaters with "why" to all the dumb justifications, for the ones you can't get to openly admit they just don't like women/brown people, it boils down to things not being historically accurate. Aside from that being ridiculously nearsighted, they're saying that they want their dragons and superpowers and other stuff that has never existed to be historically accurate.
Maybe they aren't intelligent or self critical to know why?
Like, I can tell you why I think booby girls are fine in games and comics. Same for title armor and other shit. I like women. I like to look at them. I like boobs. And butts. If I have to look at a button from a 3rd person perspective for 50+ hours, I'd like for it to be a nice one.
I feel like people that are critical of this, some of them are really just prudes, cooping social progress narratives as a tool to shame and control the sexual desires of straight men and gay women.
But the gaters can't be honest. Either out of ignorance or self loathing.. the self loathing causes them to protect their boys club at all costs because it's the only thing that gives them a feeling of worth and they lack the self esteem to come out and say they like sexual material in their entertainment.
I started saying retard again. It's too good.
I don't have to prove you wrong, Sats. Rogan does that every day of his life for me. Nice of him.
Also, why is anyone alarmed that a man changed his mind upon receiving new information? Isn't that what we want people to do? I don't understand what the deal is here.
Yeah. I love how mad Silverberg was! What a baby! Aside from that, N.K. Jemisin is the real deal. There's a reason she is the first author to win three in a row and for every book in the series.

Penny_is_a_Bitch has you covered, brah https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comment..._are_assholes/
Can confirm. Horseflies are indeed assholes.
I wish we could get to a place where the appropriate use of words is contextual.
I should be able to call gohan a fag because he sold his rx-7. I should not be able to call him a fag because I’m mad he sleeps with men. Chux adoration of all things Disney is retarded. Can’t 1cc Metal Slug? You’re a sissy. Like to wear women’s clothes despite having a penis? You’re a person.
In my 40 years of life, I've seen 3 different words go in and out of fashion when describing people of color descended from a certain geographical region. Switching names doesn’t eradicate prejudice, and taking offense is a learned behavior, not an innate one.
The problem is the "ignorant asshole"
He thinks that you using the word retard is a free pass to hate retards. Because he is both stupid and an asshole.
Though, really, we're just managing asshole by changing how we talk to control the behavior of assholes. In the end, they'll just find another way to be assholes. Like acting like a victim anytime they are asked to share with a minority or to not push policies that restrict others.
You'd think the back-and-forth between which terms are oppressive and which aren't would alone be enough to convince people that oppression doesn't come from Oppressive People with Oppressive Ideas saying Oppressive Words, but from material relationships between people and property, but here we are.
Well it used to come from that. And it still does for a few horrible people. But yeah, systemic racism is the bigger problem now.
It's almost [like redefining racism as prejudice + power was counter productive. Image that.
looooool! Okay, I totally missed that part. What a great ending to a terrible story.
Cigs - I have zero issue with people evolving their thought process over time, because that's rad and human and stuff. But Rogan is a shock jock, he says what he says to gain the acceptance and trust of people in the room and then turns on the ideas and concepts when someone else is in the room on a different day. In the context of talk show host, that's expected. But when he does it, it's just very grating on my nerves and generally annoying. Like, take Howard Stern for example - there's a consistency to his style, his back and forth banter is clever and sharp. He changes his mind, he changes his position, and that's fine. Rogan is like that dude at a party who keeps interrupting a conversation to interject his dumb ass jokes and then repeat said joke again to make sure everyone heard it. He doesn't have a personality to speak of, it's weird and gives me second hand embarrassment.
Here's the thing I've discovered: IRL doesn't give a fuck about what the internet thinks.
Everyone around town that I've dropped a retard on laughs and is happy that I'm talking like a human being. And I have barbs for the brave, should the day ever come.
Same thing when I asked the literal Mom and Pop from the Bike Shop about painting my helmet and putting stickers on it. Reddit is in an ABSOLUTE FRENZY over these things. Meanwhile, the 68-year old Geologist with her Masters and CALVES OF BLACK AND CHROME was like "WTF, do whatever you want with your helmet, man."
I'm not going to agree on Rogan, and that's fine. In addition, Ari Shaffir, Tom Segura, Christina P and plenty of other geniuses are good friends with him.
Them never shutting up about how funny Rogan is, is what got me to even listen to his podcast in the first place. Their opinion is more informed, imo.
Joe never waffles when it comes to the important issues, like coyotes, dire wolves, DMT, or intermittent fasting.
I have no idea who any of those people are! I'm assuming they are comedians?
Don't mind me, just doing a little gardening...

Because it’s the internet and he gave daddy weed?
OK then. You win! Joe Rogan is a very generic white man. He's the mean, the average culminating from the entire sea of humanity in Los Angeles. Spot the fuck on.
I like Phil Collins, tho. He's cool?
He's rad as fuck, yeah!
After listening to a dozen of his podcasts, I have a new respect for Joe Rogan. He’s dumb on some subjects (sciences), but he’s a really good listener and great about people. In the Sargon episode, he shuts Sargon down when he goes on an Anita Sarkeesian rant, saying you can attack ideas but don’t attack her, the person. Which is what Sargon was doing. It made me hate him, and realize he’s a petty gossipy shitheel and part of what’s wrong with politics - it’s so personality & team (identity) driven and the issue at hand doesn’t really matter, nor does the goal of attempting to find a solution which can meet some of the needs of both sides. So, Joe lesson learned? Focus on the subject and don’t make the person the subject.
Then, he had Neil deGrasse Tyson on, and Neil is a smart powerful man, way brighter than Joe. But Neil has a weakness, he cares too much what people think. And he gets carried away and excited, and in this moment when he retold how he quit critiquing movies on twitter because of a couple dozen hateful comments, Joe calmly got him to slow down and realize the shit people say on Twitter is insignificant compared to the overall reaction of his millions of followers and how he shouldn’t let those negative comments effect his behavior or deny his audience his full thoughts. It was a fantastic moment and made me bond with both of them more.
In both episodes Joe tried to stop them from using ‘they’ or ‘people’ when describing a fanatical marginal minority that hardly represents everyone in a group. Joe has that part right and that’s what NPR is missing and why I stopped listening.
I’m not listening to all of his podcasts, but NdT, Elon, Tulsi, and Chuck Palahniuk were all outstanding. The Sargon one I stopped listening to because he was an insufferable bastard.
That's the thing - He gets criticized for giving a lot of dickheads a talking platform and exposure, but in the end, it just ends up exposing them for who they really are. Do you really think Alex Jones was taken more seriously after he went on about inter-dimensional alien pedophiles, or Milo Yiannopoulos after he endorsed drunk driving?
I go through phases with any podcast. I listened to enough Rogan for several months to need a signifigant break, but I enjoyed a lot the guests. Just gotta jump to about fifteen minutes in to skip the ads.
Yeah, full disclosure, I only listen to maybe 20% of his podcasts.
I don't ever need to hear about Me Undies or Squarespace ever again in this life.
Y'all are getting radicalized by Rogan and his guests. https://datasociety.net/output/alternative-influence/
To be 100% fair Anita deserves all the shit she gets. She is a straight up pussy when it comes to debating people because she says all this shit and when people legit want to discuss and talk to her about her viewpoints, she flat out ignores them. Not to mention on any YT videos she does, She has Likes/Dislikes disabled along with comments off as well. Also about him not being able to attack her is bullshit.
She was on a panel at vidcon and verbally attacked him when he was in the audience when he said and did nothing to provoke her. He was only there to listen and she called him a "shithead" & "garbage human" in an attempt to make an example of him in front of a whole lot of people.
When you're on a panel at a paid event, You don't get to randomly attack people in the audience just because you don't like them.
Not to mentioned she bullied one of the other panelists when he said "Men can get harassed online just as much as women." She is a self-centered bitch who straight up lied about being a gamer, was caught on camera saying she doesn't even like games and yet you would think people wouldn't bash on her for trying to fuck over this hobby?
So yeah fuck her and fuck anyone who supports her.
Oh, IP isn’t going to be happy.
I do love Rogan, and he is a good interviewer, but he gets in over his head with some guests and sometimes lets some pretty shitty people run circles around him unchecked.
He's willing to challenge guests, but often deperately ill-equipped to do so in which case he just lets them rant. Peter Schiff is a great example. He talks endlessly about how Peter Schiff "destroyed" random strangers in the street with an argument about economics (hardly a huge victory) but doesn't question any of the highly dubious shit he says.
What's interesting to me is when the opposite happens. Like Ben Shapiro on the show seemed far more reasonable and grounded on Rogan -- still conservative, but with none of the trollishness or crazy posturing on indefensible positions. At first it made me like him a little more, but the next time I saw him on his own show it made me realize how much of this shit is just a put on and a deliberate attempt to deceive and manipulate a less sophisticated audience.
Wew! Looks like a nerve was hit! Damn, I can't recall the last time I felt this strongly about anything. I don't have any opinions about Anita but I would caution against defending that pederast Carl. Really, I'd caution against being on the side of *any* YouTube talker.
Which is why I slap my buddy who shares his videos in the group chat and how you're being slowly indoctrinated/radicalized by him if you watch/listen.
Politics shouldn’t be church trying to convince people your way is the highway. Political arguments should be about addressing conflicting values and applying them to a solution, rather than simply choose one or the other. Take abortion. Democrats approach it from the perspective of the mother and her right to terminate life, Republicans approach it from the perspective of the child and their right to be a parasite for nine months until they drop out in the world on their own. Why take one side and ignore the other in laws outlawing it or making it a free for all, when you can address both concerns by allowing abortion while putting in place actions to prevent abortion from being necessary - more birth control, education, etc.
I don't care about Sargon either way but it doesn't excuse Anita's actions and her bullshit in which she's tried to shit on this hobby. I hate how gaming has become so mainstream that people like her can literally bash everything that's fun about it and yet she won't face any detractors when her bullshit is being called out.
To Sargon's credit at least he has the balls to debate with anyone who wants to have an open dialog with him. Anita just runs away. Every time.
Edit: Ben Shapiro is an odd ball person to me. I can't argue that he uses logic to make his points but he lets religion get in the way sometimes and it's just a bad position to put yourself in when trying to debate someone.
That seems like a fair enough criticism. I'm sure there's someone who knows more about her actions to tell me how right or wrong it is or something, but whatever. Gaming has definitely become super mainstream. I know you're talking about video games but like, there's a pen & paper RPG for everything now. There's one about pugs. The breed of dog.
Poo on her. Again, I know nothing of the stuff she specifically says. Sargon's a bad-faith arguer, though. It's essential for him to debate with anyone. That's the process they need and use. Him, and Andy, and PragerU, and all the other "I do my own research" morons.Quote:
To Sargon's credit at least he has the balls to debate with anyone who wants to have an open dialog with him. Anita just runs away. Every time.
Come on man you're not even that dense. I'm mean how gaming back was for us back in the early 80s before the internet became a thing. When I was a kid growing up on the Atari 2600, The Commodore 64 and eventually the NES and SNES, I wasn't concerned about if video games were too violent or censored to death. Back then we didn't have games that cost a shitload of money like Destiny did or the whole concept of DLC and microtransactions wasn't a thing back then.
Now we have countries like Belgium making laws about gambling in video games among other things.
I'm more or less saying things were a lot more simple back then when people like Anita didn't exist to ruin one of my favorite hobbies.
This thread on this board was the last URL on the internet not dedicated to "Anita should shut up about my toys about murdering women" takes. Please go literally anywhere else to have this conversation. Just type in letters in that rectangle at the top of your browser--I'm sure there's room for you at the Anita table wherever chance takes you.
I JUST NO UNDERSTAND WHY THERE are GIRLS IN OUR FORT NOW DUDES
Holy fuck, this is the worst take I've ever seen, people like Anita are the cause of DLC and microtransactions and countries calling that shit gambling? It seems pretty obvious you're the dense one here.
Criticism doesn't ruin a goddamn thing, if it did movies would no longer exist or be enjoyable, nor would music, or plays, or books or fucking anything people enjoy.
Things were a lot more simple back when women were bought and sold like cattle.
Things were a lot more simple back when we kept those negros separate.
Things were a lot more simple back when we beat up those gays.
It's amazing how fitting it is for so many things.
