Photos of Pelosi juxtaposed alongside photos of Abrams with threatening narration was definitely an oft-recurring theme in Kemp-supporting attack ads and fliers here in GA. Same as it was with Ossoff last year, same as it was with those other states and almost any red/pink state or district race, I'd wager quite confidently. Sticking to the same script is kind of Republicans' thing, I highly doubt GA's campaigns have been going on some wild tangent in their use of her.
There's no shortage of Obama-haters here, but he was never cast in a spoiler role so heavily and with such a venomous snarl in similar ads from the opposing party during his presidency, and invocations of him have almost completely dried up in campaigning afterwards, usually only attached to the '-care' suffix. And he was in a much higher-profile position! If Pelosi's attracting all this infamy as minority whip, the hits on her and anyone attached are only going to get worse the more her head is popping up.
The erosion of right-wing decorum may be a factor, but the big X factor is that Obama was actually popular outside the hard-right sphere. They knew if they went all-in on him, they'd push away the moderates he won and would certainly piss away anyone with Democratic tendencies, so they tended to pull their punches. Pelosi doesn't have that cushion, she's barely even popular among Democrats, and moderates definitely skew towards disliking her. Further poisoning her brand and turning public opinion more and more against her will be easy mode for Repubs.
Again, what exactly is it you like about her so much, anyhow? At the bottom of this all, that's what I'm at a loss for, is why she's just SO goddamn valuable to her defenders as a standard bearer for the party. To my ears, everything out of her mouth has this coppery taste of boilerplate partisanship... and not the good kind of "we're gonna give 'em hell" partisanship that rallies the base effectively, the bad kind that makes her sound pedantic and petty to anyone outside the team. The type that will claim a moral victory as they back away from pursuing any actual victory. I've never heard her come within a country mile of projecting the image of an inspirational leader.
Oh I don't like her so much, it's more about the feeling that it doesn't matter much who it is. I don't really think you are wrong so much as I don't think there's a ton of difference either way. They'll spin the narrative really hard and focus on someone else. And the same 35 to 40% will eat it up. Just like Jim Acosta. Who knows anything about some CNN journalist?
I'm done with news BTW. I wish they would talk about good countries like Spain or Canada. US is done, it's just constant dumb ass shit.
Your'e right —*Pelosi doesn't have half the personality Clinton did, and all of the attack baggage. It's nice to see a liberal person talk strategy without some kind of moral indignation stapled on to it (oh hey Joust). It would be nice to put forth a candidate that isn't a rerun of the 2016 shit show Clinton turned out to be (sorry, but Clinton was just a poor choice). The challenge white women face is they're a progressive choice... but not that progressive intersectionally. Even less so if they're rich.
Beto may have lost in Texas, but his brand was pretty strong. Ayanna Pressley was also a notable standout (too young though)
But that's the trick of it — you need someone who they'll spin and it doesn't matter that much. Obama was that guy—so was Clinton (and Bush). Pelosi talks like an annoyed librarian and invokes Clinton-esque privilege. Probably don't give them that much fodder right off the bat.
You're right, they should run with someone with multiple failed businesses or a rapist or a child molester. I hear those do well in that demo.
It's time to give up on the SCOTUS, dog. She's out before the end of President Pedophile's term, and he'll put an even worse sack of shit in there now that there's no stopping him. We're not going to see this damage unfucked in our lifetimes. It sucks, but it's the case. Unless, you know, sinbad-real-talk.jpg.
I love you so much right now.
If the Democrats were smart (excuse me while I laugh for 45 minutes) they would have started focusing on senate elections through 2024 as soon as the news called the House. Don't even focus on the 2020 Presidential election. Funnel every penny to flipping the Senate and keeping the House, so they can control Congress and make at least 4-5 years of the Pederast in Chief's life shitty. Find some asshole – even a goddamned Republican – and put them on the ticket against him. Isn't that Avenatti guy a douchebag and somewhat interested? Fucking let him run. Give us some entertainment.
Sounds reasonable.
This is scary news about RBG. Losing her at a time like this is just no good. Trump is likely gloating right now with his trademark smug grin (the only smile you ever see from him) & smacking his hands together loudly at the prospect of cramming another Kavanaugh down our throats. "Yes, muthafucka yes!! The world *ahem* sorry, Mike, Melania, & Sarah, I got carried away there... I mean the SCOTUS is... mine, ALL MINE! MUWAHAHAHA! Well, that's good enough."
Just so glad Congress doesn't totally belong to Trump anymore. He really melted down after this election. The POTUS was so rude & totally unprofessional towards Jim Acosta. "You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn't be working for CNN". PKB.
Ravaged by Goats.
Reciprocity Before Gasconade.
I'm not sure why you guys think trump will win a second term. It would be pretty easy for the demos to win. They can pick an easily likable democrat, probably another famous person. Or a comfy pudgy white guy from a rural or southern state. Either would easily beat trump.
The only way trump can win is if the demo's pick another person that half the country actively hates in an attempt to force progression or party narrative. Or do like the republican party did last time and run a bunch of idiots with no personality against trump.
Anyway, just about any famous democrat could beat trump. Run Morgan Freeman. Or Dwayne Johnson. Or George Clooney. Or Leonardo DiCaprio. Or Tommy Lee Jones. Or Brad Pitt. Or Ben Affleck.
Literally anyone with star power, that has been trained to talk in front of a camera, can beat trump. A 10 pound dog that does tricks for treats could beat trump.
Can they nominate a corporation? They're people under the law, after all.
Trump will not only win, but get the popular vote. With Sessions out, he’s going to legalize that green and win the black vote.
you're all retarded
Oh look, the Left is sure of a guaranteed win again.
oh the left can fuck it up. Just run any of the current talking heads. Or Hillary.
please do try to keep up
We don't have a party on the left. We've got the crazy-right and centrist, but no left wing party. I'd happily vote for a progressive but let's not wander into fantasyland here.
Bernie was pretty left. Think he'll run again? Maybe he'll be toned back too much on the presidential trail though -- that's what happened to McCain.
They can, but they won’t. The superdelegates will coalesce around Warren or Booker or someone equally unelectable, and Trump will eat their lunch.
I still think Hillary will take one more grab at the brass ring. Kerry is hinting as his intentions, as well.
The sad thing is, the Dem bench is stacked with strong possibilities. Joe Biden has a prayer. And if the Dems want to play 2020 in Game Genie mode, they have Tulsi Gabbard and Tammy Duckworth as very strong candidates. Both of them could shut down Trump’s bullying MO pretty damn quickly.
You know they effectively got rid of the super-delegates, right? They can only act as a tie breaker when no one gets a majority now.
Warren is also probably not who the establishment wants. I think Warren would be a good president, but I agree not a good candidate to run against Trump. Booker has a shot, but he's polarizing.
Have they changed enough that a popular Democrat could pull what trump pulled? Or do they still have a system to keep out undesirables?
It seems like they're dedicated more to the appearance of taking the high road.
Yeah.. the fart fumes are clearly messing with that boy’s brains.
Florida allowed email voting
So black people cant vote because we will close everything, but email is OK. Yea...
Relatively, the chunnel would still be a much higher road than current Republicans are traveling.
But I'd love for you to expand on whatever laundry list of underhanded Democrat skullduggery you're alluding to here.
I wish they'd dig in and punch back better, but nah son. They appealed to Republicans' better nature with their Supreme Court pick and that blew up in their faces, lots of 'em immediately went into "we need to be more bipartisan" mode right after this election after receiving none of that, and "liberal" media constantly bends over backwards to give seats at the table and humanizing thinkpieces to some of the very worst right-wing nutjobs, as though that's a sensible appeal to moderates. Outside the purview of late-night hosts and comedians, they absolutely play too nice.

Did you see that fever dream tweet of his about Vietnam or something? Watching this narcissism spiral is both hilarious and scary.
At the very least we now know there aren't any aliens or ghosts. I feel like he,d released this info by now just for attention.
I guess he might be holding on to it for TV topics when he's outed and finally starts up his own TV channel
Didn't you see Independence Day? They don't tell the president about aliens and shit like that.
He got the big words in that tweet ok.
Did he have a stroke, or is he very very close to having a stroke?
If he has a stroke, can he have it on TV so I can see it on repeat?
As of now - 8 hours after posting it - Trump's tweet has not been corrected.
I have a strong suspicion that it's intentional, here we are talking about it 8 hours later.
It's all just a smockscreen to divert attention from the SDNY filing.
Teh Master Plan!

I don't understand. What do you do with the pieces when you play chess?
I mean the knight was clearly designed as a prostate stimulator.
These people are running the country now.
The last week has been a total embarrassment.
Holy freaking crap... STOP! :fail: This from someone who lives like a lord while 800,000 government employees are making zip. Right, 420,000 are working unpaid & the other 380,000 are furloughed.Quote:

I wonder if the wall would have stopped them from getting all the way up to the NE.
"Any deaths of children or others at the Border are strictly the fault of the Democrats and their pathetic immigration policies that allow people to make the long trek thinking they can enter our country illegally. They can’t. If we had a Wall, they wouldn’t even try! The two..."
"...children in question were very sick before they were given over to Border Patrol. The father of the young girl said it was not their fault, he hadn’t given her water in days. Border Patrol needs the Wall and it will all end. They are working so hard & getting so little credit!"
Pretty sure the entire White House will need to be razed flat and rebuilt to get the stench of this piece of shit out of the place.
Spraying the place's walls & carpet with some Febreze might do the trick. How much would it take? Well, a shitload. About 120 megaliters I guess.
And what if we had a border wall? It may well be too high for most to get above, but there'd be those who still try to pass it, most probably by digging beneath. Not like that's anything new. Trump needs to can the wall & think of something else, like a stronger CBP presence. The money he wants to put towards it could be better used to police the border with more agents & technology.

He needs to think about taking a convertible ride in Dallas.
This is going to sound cold as fuck but it's really not the job of the United States to help these people. As humanitarians I agree something should be done but laying the blame on Trump is stupid when this problem existed since Bill Clinton was in charge. It's only now gotten people up in arms because it's Trump.
There really is nothing to pretend about illegal immigration when it's something a lot of people are ignoring or pretending doesn't matter. While the United States is a big country, We can't save everyone as much as I'd like to.
See here's a problem right there, you're conflating illegal immigration with these children that died recently. They did not come here illegally, they came to apply for asylum which is their right that the US offers. They did not need to be imprisoned and mistreated. Historically when families applied for asylum a court date to review their application would be set and they would be allowed in the US until their court date, not imprisoned for daring to try to escape their terrible circumstances.
No I'm not.
It's just as simple as the question is what do you think we should do as a country?
What possible solution could you offer to resolve this problem that's existed since before Bill Clinton was our president?
Also while I feel bad these kids died, I can't but think of what brought to them to their deaths. Innocent lives are lost around here and more in the world all the time. The United States is one of the most protected countries in the world so we don't get crime like a lot of the 3rd world or even a chunk of Europe doesn't get.
My heart feels for the pointless loss of life but the United States isn't here to police the world so much anymore when we have our own fair share of problems here as it is.
I started to type and then decided I don’t even want to start. You just be happy being wrong and not caring about people, articulating a long list of the problems with what you said that you won’t even listen to isn’t worth my time.
Trump stands apart from other presidents in that he's very nakedly trying to exacerbate immigration problems and foment tensions, not solve or lessen them. It couldn't be more blatant that "use immigration as a prop to stir up nationalistic paranoia" is bullet point #1 in his playbook, and "try to find a positive solution that works for the maximum amount of people" is so secondary that it's not even scribbled in the margins towards the back.
Historically, even most people that advocated tightening the borders would have conceded that a lot of illegal immigration owes to bottlenecking in the citizenship process, which clearly offers a ridiculously small number of open spots relative to the number of people seeking citizenship and a burdensome, bureaucracy-filled process for even the 'lucky' ones. If those illegal immigrants came as legal immigrants, these folks contended, they'd have much less of a problem with them, and they at least paid lip service towards providing a wider avenue towards legal immigration as part of their solution.
Trump's thrown that out. Not only is he cracking down on illegal immigration, he's also squeezing people out of legal immigration. He just wants a magic "off" switch, his endgame clearly doesn't involve making the state of immigration better for anyone but people that don't like immigrants. Or the nebulous concept of them, in many cases.
And that whole "We don't have room for them" is horse puckey. Our nation is heavily pockmarked with small towns that the rural folk have abandoned or run into the ground, nevermind the vast stretches of undeveloped land that surround those places for miles. There's a good number of immigrant communities that have set down boots in these sorts of towns and revitalized them, not destroyed them.
I think it IS the job of the United States "to help these people". We have caused a horrific amount of instability in Central/South America, chickens are coming home to roost.
So is it wrong to ask what possible solution could be done to resolve all this?
Do you have an answer that could prevent these kind of tragedies from happening?
Is there really a simple answer to this other then you're telling me I'm wrong?
@Bacon, Bill Clinton and Obama were cracking down on illegal immigration also yet nobody cared enough to make an issue about it until now. If we're going down the history route then I hope something can be learned from what's been happening for all these many years. Obviously nothing has worked in all this time so I don't know what to tell you.
I see the complaints from all of you but I don't see any solutions.
That's basically U.S. foreign policy. We step all over the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America for our own purposes, but when anyone talks about us fixing the mess we helped make, we're all
https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/...57/conceit.JPG
I think the answer is to stop fucking with other countries for our own benefit with no regard for theirs.
Hey BonusKun, you're wrong. Just thought you should hear it some more, really settle in to it. <3
Still doesn't answer the question sir.
I see the complaints from all of you but I don't see any solutions. What could possibly be done to deal with the illegal immigration situation that's been happening way before since Trump got elected?
It has nothing to do with you thinking I'm right or wrong. It's a simple question and I'm curious about what your thoughts as to what could make this whole mess better for everyone.
Anyways I'm not trying to be a dick here even tho some of you guys are being outright hostile about this so do me a favor and try to "educate" me into what you're thinking instead of screaming I'm wrong all the time. You won't win people over with that.
We don't owe you shit. We see where you're coming from, and it's disgusting and you should consider keeping it to yourself.
Good luck!
Oh come on Yeller, You're going to just throw a tantrum like a petulant child because someone asked you a question?
Step away from your emotions for a second and use some logic.
Most of TNL is far left leaning and I'm fine with that. You guys know I'm more of a centrist type of guy. I myself feel that things should be talked out and discussed like adults when it comes to a lot of things. I don't look to pick fights with anyone or try to belittle their opinions just because I don't agree with them.
You should do the same.
No my man. I was more or less replying to this one point you made.
I agreed with most everything else you said but this seemed wrong to me that the only reason this is more known that it's happening is because the media is telling everyone every day about it. When our last previous presidents were doing the same thing, Nobody cared that much about it. It just feels like a double-standard.Quote:

Honestly I should have replied to your whole post but this was the only part I didn't fully agree with. The rest of it I was fine with.
And no, I'm not trying to "project" anything.
Oh and let me make this clear. I think Trump is as much of a piece of shit as the rest of you. I didn't vote for him at all.
Checking in and yep, still wrong. You guys aren’t accomplishing anything keeping this going so please feel free to stop replying to him.
It's mildly amusing watching him spin out.
You guys I swear. It's like you can't even act like adults.... lol
That's half the trouble isn't it, you equate 'pragmatic cruelty' with adult behavior. Childhood must have been a blast over there.
What can be done about illegal immigration?
Set up some kind of work visa system for the low income jobs a lot of these people are coming for.
End the war on drugs that waste tax payer money and funds crime in Mexico.
Provide some sort of consulting and aid services to Mexico to help them get their shit together, ending the problems that make migration look viable.
None of this is related to the US currently shitting up its asylum program. And conflating the two makes you look like a racist that really just wants Mexicans out of the country. I'm not saying you are. You could just be ignorant. But thats what Yeller is being a pill about.
This doesn't really matter. I wish we could send Russia a bill for introducing "whataboutism" to American political discourse.Quote:

Just because your grandma's dead cat used to shit in the living room doesn't mean that every new cat gets to continue to shit in the living room.
Its wrong. Everyone knows about it. Lets work on it.
Flouce to the higher ground!
We're in it now, baby. Are you not getting the interaction you wanted on your terms? Tone policing is a thing that can backfire, ya know.
I'll let you go with a warning. Happy New Year.
Yeah yeah Happy new year to you too.
Fuck them all to death.
I'm just saying, can you please make your point without humor or emotion? I cannot feel and do not accept it from others.
Happy new year bonuskun. I’m white, idgaf about the immigration chat.
Where the fuck did this bizarro expectation that people should be able to confront the morally outrageous without emotion come from anyway?
Spock freaked the fuck out regularly.
I mean it’s just that idea that logic and reason is radical self interest, rather than considering the needs of others. Wacky, but here we are. And yeah Spock freaked out a lot lol
Spores?
Boom!
Party Spock.

The simple answer is that the media was less interested in immigration snafus under those presidents because those presidents had the amazing strategy of not lighting themselves on fire and running around screaming about things they hoped the media would ignore.
90% of the stuff Trump complains about the media being unfair to him about is stuff they would back off of or move on from quicker if he'd just shut his stupid mouth and stop feeding them more rope to hang him with.
