I didn't realize there was a GBA Fire Emblem game left in Japan, and that the first one we got was actually a prequel. That's my favorite FE game, so I have to play it.
Okay so it plays identically to Fire Emblem, but they fixed a few things in the later game. Namely, the difficulty of the stages is pretty easy, but the bosses are fucking hard. I can still beat them, but you have to rely on your one or two overpowered guys that you normally hold back since they are EXP sponges, and nobody else can even hit the boss. Other than that, having a grand ol time.
Double Dragon IV (PC)
One good thing is that it can have several enemies on the screen at a time- around 5 or 6. The BGM isn't bad. It plays well and looks like a proper sequel to... the NES version. I still like it, but would rather have had 16-bit graphics like PC-Engine DD2, GBA's DD Advance, or SNES' Super Double Dragon. Large sprites and detailed backgrounds like the ones from the Neo-Geo fighter would've been best. Good for $7 but I'd have been willing to pay $20 to get Neo Geo graphics. Character combat voices would've been nice, even if they were just ripped from DDA.
Divinity Original Sin - I really like this game. The world is very detailed and points back to old games like Ultima VII (which they talked about a lot before release). The combat is a lot of fun - it's turn based and unlike Pillars of Eternity you can actually figure out what the fuck is going on and plan a strategy. The elemental stuff is like Magicka in a real RPG. The story and dialogue are kind of dumb but there is a lot of it, which maybe sounds less complimentary than it is supposed to be. There's a lot of fun ways the characters interact.
The only problem is the game is a bit too much like old titles in some ways. Inventory management is a nightmare. Having to juggle shit between guys is a pain in the ass (why not automatically have the best, say, crafter handle all crafting automatically?). Hunting down some random NPC on a map can be frustrating. The quest logs are vague and you end up spending a lot of time poking around (or, more likely, looking at a walkthrough on the phone). Despite that it's a cool game and I recommend it.
Divinity's battle system looks delightful, but I've kept my distance because of all the other stuff you mentioned. I want all of that battle complexity and terrain interaction and up-leveling of dudes, but I don't want to have to talk to anyone or do anything between. I just want to punch and shoot things. The only thing I want to do between punching and shooting is plan how best to punch and shoot the next things.
Katamari Forever - I'm terrible at this game now. Just awful.
Reinstalled Dark Souls 3 to get a little stronger in preparation for the last DLC. Loaded it up and realized I forgot to back up my save when I formatted a few months ago. I only played the one character since release, so ~140 hours down the drain. Not sure if or when I'll get the DLC, in that case. Really seriously bummed about it.
So I've been playing Isaac, SFV and I finally started DOOM.
It does, to a certain extent (I filled my online save space a long time ago). But I'm playing it on PC, and I swear I should have a backup somewhere from a time right before I got 100%. Can't find it, though.
