I remember comics writer Warren Ellis was working on it a couple years back.
This was discussed by TNLers on Twitter, but I didn't realize it was coming so soon.

When I first ran across Warren Ellis in the pages of Hellstorm, I fell in love with his writing voice.
Fast forward 20 some odd years and several hundreds of issues of comics later, and you can get tired of the same old notes being sounded by that voice.
I won't say it's bad, but I've just started the 4th episode (which means there's 20 minutes left of the "season") and I feel like everything that's happened so far could easily have been compressed into one 24 minute episode.
So it feels a lot like modern comics, I guess. Which I don't care for.
Why is this a season when it's obviously a movie?

I enjoyed them, but it's not a story yet. It's really just the first 4 episodes of a normal 24 episode season. I think the action is well animated.
The show accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do in 4 episodes. It smartly introduces the main three characters, the antagonist, and it leaves us wanting more. It has very little fat. All 4 episodes are extremely well written and faithful to the game series. I don't see how you can ask for much more, frankly.
Saying that these four episodes could have been run together as a movie isn't really a criticism. It's just a further illustration of how well put together these episodes are.
Watched it. Its pretty good.
Saw them all yesterday and loved it. The pacing was great, and nothing seemed forced. I can't wait until season 2.
