This looks like they let Igarashi's new team get a hold of it, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

Ugly but still fuck yes.
Yeah I'm down. I'm sure John is happy about this.
I'll take a look at it. The AM2R fangame was really good, though.
It's fugly, but it's 2D Metroid. I'll take it.
I was initially excited and then realized MercurySteam was making it and now I don't care.
I know people have been begging for a new 2D Metroid but do we need it? There are like 800 games in this style and 10 come out a week. Most are garbage and none are as good as Super Metroid but neither was Fusion or Zero Mission. Chasing the dragon imo
If it's a remake of M2, then I think it's worth it. The new Amiibos that go with it look pretty cool, too.

That Metroid Amiibo looks divine!
I'm not optimistic about anything Mercury Steam does. I'll try it if the buzz is good on it.
I don't know, I enjoyed Lords of Shadow and Jericho.
Day one here (along with both those amiibos). I spent a lot of nights as a kid playing M2 under my blankets with the shitty gamelight attached to the front of the screen and the volume super low.
That combat looks a bit too Other M for my liking, but otherwise I'm fairly sure MercurySteam can't screw up too badly on a pretty straightforward remake with close some company oversight. Their Castlevanias sucked because they were told to make God of War and then got left to their own devices.
If this wasn't titled Metroid no one would give a shit.
I'm really surprised that after all the pining from fans Nintendo would outsource one Metroid and hand another to a brand new studio. I guess that tells you a lot about what they really think of the series or at least its revenue potential. What I don't understand is why they didn't shit can this and buy up A2MR and move it to Switch.
I'm super excited for this.
I'm curious how you think this looks better than Bloodstained.
It does look better than Bloodstained.
I mean, this is the same company that thought the fans would jump at Metroid as a diet Monster Hunter clone starring faceless bighead space marines. It's progress since that point, I guess.
(Man, it's super depressing that they pissed away any amount of money on developing Federation Force. They could easily have thrown 1/20th the money they spent on that debacle M2's way, said "Hey guyz Super Metroid is releasing as a 3D Classic," and had everyone dancing in the streets.)
They're going to be released together as a two-pack.

Only God can judge Samus.
Florida?
Because it does. Things like how the environment isn't a grid of repeated elements, character movement doesn't look rotoscoped from a 2D game, to the enemies not looking out of place, just to name a few things. There's a long list, and you have to be blind to not see a difference. I don't know if you're being facetious here, just trying to get a rise out, or what man.
yea I don't see how anyone could compare the two. This actually looks like a game made by professionals. I think it looks good myself. Remember it's also on the 3DS so there's only so much you can do with it whereas Bloodstained is using the same engine as Gears of War 4.
Huh, the suit actually looks a touch feminine.
Fuck Nintendo of America.
Fuck them so hard.

Derp
Damn those useless trinkets are sweet.
People are more upset about missing boxes full of garbage than 10 years ago when NOE was publishing games NOA wouldn't touch
NoE has been doing a better job than NoA for over a decade now, specially like Finch said with game releases. I would love that steel book.
Whatever. Just something else I would crate.
If this game were on the modern, region free platform where it belongs, this wouldn't be an issue...
This game is a good example of everything that is wrong with Amiibos. Look at this functionality:
Samus Aran (Metroid Series)
- Elon Reserve Tank (special ability recovery)
- Metroid II Art Gallery (unlocked after beating game)
Metroid (Metroid Series)
- Metroid Marker (tells you location of nearest Metroid)
- FUSION Difficulty Mode (unlocked after beating game)
Samus Aran (Super Smash Bros. Series)
- Missile Reserve Tank (missile recovery)
- Concept Art Gallery (unlocked after beating game)
Zero Suit Samus (Super Smash Bros. Series)
- Energy Reserve Tank (energy recovery)
- Sound Test (unlocked after beating game)

It's disheartening to see things that have been included since the NES days placed behind plastic pay walls. I think the common sense consensus these days is that Amiibos should only unlock aesthetics, much like the DLC in games like Rocket League.
I remember when people would argue that Nintendo was right to not have DLC when everyone else had it. Now they have BY FAR the worst form of it. Limited supply DLC that collects dust, takes up space and unlocks shit that would be free in every other company's games.
I don't even like it when hard mode is locked until you beat the game. I can't believe they're making people pay $30 MSRP to unlock it, and you still have to beat the game first.
Hard mode unlocks after you beat the game, the fusion difficulty mode, is like hard mode + just for clarity's sake.
Glad I invested in an amiibo emulator.
That was GBA.
I think this game looks great but sticking with my vow of never buying an amiibo, looks like I'll never have that content.
If you have an android phone you can get the functionality of the amiibos for a couple of dollars.
I don't but I also feel like doing that is breaking the spirit of the vow.
I have a hundred of these things. You can just borrow them if you want.
Just buy the right NFC tag (as a sticker or what ever you want) and you can use an App to progam them with the amiibo data. They're usually pretty cheap (they spiked when Breath of the Wild came out, haven't checked lately, but in the past they were like 10 - 15 cents or less a piece)
Looks like it's going to be way too easy. But still looking forward to it.
You can maximize the difficulty for the low price of $29.99.
I hate being a part of the amiibo problem but that Metroid one is too hard to pass up. That being said, I can't wait for this game! After picking up and enjoying Castlevania Mirror of Fate up on PC this summer, I'm looking forward to seeing how this one goes being made under the watchful eye of Nintendo.
There's nothing wrong with buying an Amiibo because you like it. The problem is locking content behind it.
Yeah I ordered the metroid amiibo just because it looked cool before the unlocks were announced... it's dumb that there are the unlocks though.
It is shitty, but at least the only unlock that matters is tied to the one everyone wants anyway.
True
Hate to say it, but this looks like ass.
Really? I'm sold on the melee counter alone.
Yeah this looks great.
The Smash Bros. stuff of having the amiibo fight or whatever is still a type of locked content. That was minor but the reason these things aren't just figurines is so you can access stuff in games you wouldn't be able to otherwise. It was obvious from the beginning that Nintendo could lock stuff behind them if they wanted to.
I bought the amiibo instead of the game. I'll glance at it every now and then as I play through the PC fan remake.
Clever reversible cover...

That's awesome, I'll be reversing that instantly.
They can lock costumes and stuff like that behind them all they want. I don't even consider that content. It's like DLC in well made games like Rocket League, where it doesn't impact gameplay at all. The problem isn't that they can lock stuff behind them; it's what they did lock behind them in this case.
Shovel Knight is still the only Amiibo I've actually used. I really liked being able to level up one character and play with him on the 3DS or Wii U version of the game.
This did not even get a Recommended from Eurogamer. This part was especially pointed:
I'm sure it'll do fine on Metacritic, because the Nintendo logo gets it +10/100 on too many sites.Quote:
MercurySteam now has the distinction of being the one developer to have worked on both Metroid and Castlevania on the 3DS and fallen wide of the mark on both.
I don't have a 3DS but is anybody checking this out?
I don't love the art style. I played a little AM2R and I feel like that was cooler than this... but I haven't looked very closely at this.
Jeremy Parish didn't love it.
From a Metroidvaniac like him, that's faint praise indeed.
Finch loves it. That's all I need to know.
I was trying not to acknowledge that.
So, MS has worked on the 3DS before and they can’t get a steady frame rate in the 30 minutes I’ve played of it.
Also! I hope you like melee counter, because your ass better do it every time if you want to move quickly.
That said, the music/sound is great and the movement is about as good as it’s gonna get, just wish it was on more powerful hardware like something Nintendo put out this year.
Yep. Oh well, I'm not buying it
Guys... it’s not Castlevania. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8844c5588c.jpg
Did it leak or did some one sell it early?
Both?
Mine is a leak, though.
I’m buying it Friday though because I want to support 2D Metroid, even if it’s sub-optimal at best.
Edit: Actually, I probably won’t. Enough nerds are gonna buy it. I do like the Amiibo though. Nintendo is gonna get money one way or the other regarding this.
I don't know who that is, and I am confident that I am better off.
I hope Sonic Mania sells better than this so Nintendo starts hiring some 2D pixel artists again
I've tried watching Parrish's live streams and I'm convinced he doesn't actually like playing video games. He's much more interested in the alcohol he is drinking.
I assume this game is that bad that we'd rather talk about Retronauts in this thread.
Bob Mackey is super obnoxious and his role in retronauts is to say things that aren't funny and are barely relevant because he never has experience with whatever they're talking about. Also he says Castlevania Symphony of the Night is the best. If he ruins every positive experience you have with Retronauts by never shutting up when he has nothing to say, don't miss the next Talking Simpsons where Bob Mackey talks about The Simpsons
At first glance I thought it said Bob Marley.
Talking Simpsons is such a waste of an opportunity. They often have access to the writers of the funniest episodes of any show ever and just spend the whole time Chris Farley Show-ing it up. They just say the jokes that happened in the show and all laugh real hard like they just heard it for the first time and that one young man has such a potty mouth. I still listen to it, but I hate it.
Entertainment Podcasts are the worst thing. Why doesn't anyone have anything interesting or at least new to say about things I like. Don't I deserve this? I paid TEN DOLLARS for a bag of popcorn yesterday to support the Boy Scouts who I don't even think are that good and I'm very tired.
Anyway, I welcome teleports and I bet this game is secretly great.
I watched Metal Jesus call the Thief series "forgotten first person shooters." Why would this happen, and why would I put myself in a position to know it happened.
I think the melee counter looks fun.
