Needs more Zelda HD games.~
I plan on picking up Wind Waker soon. I'm also looking forward to cracking open Breath of the Wild this weekend.
Finally a Nintendo Switch with Breath of the Wild.
Breath of the Wild is video game crack. I've been playing it most of the day and finally gave it a rest at 9 PM.
I'm glad to see Nintendo has somewhat drawn you back in. It's an amazing game even now months later after the honeymoon has worn off for some people.~
It has issues, namely the stupidly low weapon durability, but even so it is a fantastic game.
Breath of the Wild is wonderful.
As a rule I don't haggle on Craigslist merchandise, if it's a price I won't pay then pass. Few weeks ago a guy posted a nice NES collection to Facebook. There were a half dozen titles I was interested in but the price was high and piecing out a entire lot for a few games seemed a huge hassle. Which is why I nearly vomited when I walked into a game store the next day and found he traded the entire mess for a fraction of what he asked. Fast forward to yesterday and the same guy posted a Genny collection. I shot him a offer that I totally expected him to pass on, but yeah he actually took it:

I like that Light Crusader. The only reason it has such a bad reputation is that it's not a very good game at all.
For me the isometric view conjured memories of Landstalkers insane puzzle dungeons....which wasn't even remotely the case.
That's a hell of a haul.
Sunset Riders is quite pricey nowadays.
Horizon Zero Dawn.
My faceplates arrived from God Save the Queendom, but I was too lazy to unhook the dock for the full group picture:

Here they are installed:

They match the theme I've used forever:

That's freakin' adorable.
Love it.
Made the mistake of rewatching a bunch of Techmoan videos on Youtube yesterday. I went from wanting to get into CED again, to getting more into VHD, to getting back into LD again.
I thankfully talked myself out of the first two, because even though I'd want them more for the artwork than to actually watch them- I'm not so crazy as to want more shit lying around for no reason but to collect dust. So that left Laser Disc.
I popped over to craigslist and as usual there were several listings from this one douche that is always posting shit at absurd prices. But then I saw another listing. There's a local video store that's been around since the 80s. Dude that owns it is 84 and it made it seem like he was retiring and selling everything off. The ad stated there were over 750 LDs and he was selling them in chunks of 100 for $150. Sadly the ad was from 5 days ago.
I swung by there this morning and of course it looked like half the stuff was gone already. No Star War or Abyss or anything like that. There were a lot of older movies though. Things I had heard of but hadn't seen. That's the kind of stuff I was really interested in. I had to throw some junk in to make it to 100, but I did and now I'm pleased.
Sucks for the owner though. He wasn't really retiring. The plaza was sold a few months ago. The old plaza owner allowed video guy to have a month to month lease because, well, he's old. He didn't want to be locked into a long lease should his or his wife's health fail. The new plaza owners wanted a five year lease and since video guy wouldn't sign it he's being kicked out. His wife (who is 11 years younger) was talking to another person and now she's worried about her husband. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but it was where the LDs were so...anyway, she felt the interaction with people and such kept him going and now he won't have that anymore. Greedy people suck.
Sucks for me too. I hadn't been to this place in probably 20 years. I assumed he only carried VHS, DVD, and Blu ray. There were crumbs of every sort of pre-recorded media. Beta, CED, you name it. Yet another name on the list of small businesses I wish I supported while they were still around.
You have chosen wisely.
I have a small stack of extra LDs laying around I can send you if you like. Mostly common 90s stuff that everybody that already owns LD has, but hey, free.
I'll look over a list if you want to make one, thanks!
I'll have to look, I don't even remember what's in the pile.
I got Grand Kingdom for PS4.
So far it's real dumb!
I picked that (XBCX) up from Gamestop for $6.75 three days ago.
How?
You did the buy 3 deal?
yep.
grabbed Uncharted 4, Marvel Pinball, Gears 4/Rare Replay two pack, and Xenoblade for $27.
*Toshiba 6 GB 7200 RPM HDD ($190) - The higher RPM got rid of stuttering on some games. To name a few, Ys Seven, Nier: Automata, and Bulletstorm FCE had this issue on my 5400 RPM HDD until they were moved over. Steam's built in install mover is a godsend. GOG & Origin should add such a thing. IMO 5400 RPM isn't fast enough for a gaming PC especially with open world or most Unreal 3/4 engine games.
*Senko no Ronde 2 ($32, PC) - Got on early to lock in the discount. Basically a revised DUO with 1080p support.
*Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana ($60 on PC) - Preordered from GOG. I'll probably buy on Vita as well.
*Elex ($45, PC preorder) - Looks somewhat Mass Effect Andromeda-ish, and Piranha Bytes/THQ Nordic are promising jetpack flight and a similar moral choice system. Releases on 10/17.
got walking dead for free on the humble store. I think its free for the next 9 or 10 hours.
Also a lot of other stuff is marked down, like the remake of mickey mouses castle of illusion.
a new piece of shit laptop to replace my old piece of shit laptop which is currently in the process of physically disintegrating
consumer electronics!
I may have mentioned this before, but I've essentially transitioned to digital for convenience, space, and environmental benefit. In that vein, I recently picked up a Samsung Evo Select 128GB microSDXC card from Amazon for the Switch, as well as the following games in the last few weeks:
3D Picross: Round 2 (3DS) - $18 thanks to the My Nintendo discount, I should have bought this day one as it's fantastic.
Sonic Mania (Switch)
The Evil Within (PS4) - $5 thanks to the recent Bethesda sale.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (Switch)
Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin (PS4) - $12 in the ongoing Bandai Namco sale, psyched to start this very soon. It will be my first time with the game since my two-day rental of the original at launch.
Today I bought an area rug, a set of egyptian cotton bed sheets, two pairs of shoes, two pairs of winter boots, and a fall jacket. With all of the discounts, I paid about half price, which still works out to about $600. It was all stuff I really needed, though, and it's been a long time since I spent that much on grown-up stuff.
I'm planning to pick up a bicycle next week, and maybe a set of stall bars if I can find some that will fit in my apartment.
I decided to go to "A Video Game Con" at the last minute in NJ, found a recapped Duo for an okay price so I blew my gaming budget for the next couple of months. Need to get an Everdrive and a control pad or two and I am all set.
You're using an SSD for your games? I might later if the GB/$ ratio improved. If the 6 GB drive I bought were instead an SSD, I'm sure it'd be over $1600 easily. The other $1400 I'd rather keep free to spend on RAM or other upgrades. While 16 GB RAM is fine for now, I may swap that out for 32 or 64 later.
I do have an SSD but it's used for the OS, Win 10. What I like there is the faster bootup time.
A 6 TB HDD would have really long seek times because of how many platters the drive has.
My motherboard has 10 Sata 3 ports, so adding an additional SSD later on is no big deal, especially when I find a good deal.
Volume H is a 750GB Crucial MX300 SSD that I got for under $200.

Got a wife! And a powered hand mixer!
...are the two related? Is this a euphemism?
Related in that the mixer was put on the registry by her, to be used almost exclusively by her.
Congrats, Pineapple!
Congrats, Pineapple!
I went back today and turned a free duplicate copy of Giga Wing 2 into a PSP 3001, and sealed copies of Trials of Cold Steel I lionheart edition and the regular edition of Trials of Cold Steel II. Both for the Vita.
So about $100 worth of stuff for a $200 game?
It's too late to save him.
PSP 2000s and 3000s are actually retaining their value annoyingly well.
I have a 2000 with a cracked screen and an expanding battery I've been looking to replace for years, since I have oodles of UMDs that my Go is worthless for, but systems never really reached the price valley that one would anticipate for a recently dead, not-quite-retro-yet system with millions upon millions of units floating around. The strength of sustained demand for it is really strange.
I guess I need to just bite the bullet and get the parts.
Yeah I've been looking for a PSP 3001 for awhile, and most in my area have been going for the 70 - 100 range. This one was priced at 70 with a 4 gig memory card. I felt it was a deal I think you'd have a hard time finding someone to actually spend 200 on Giga Wing 2, and price charting right now puts it around 150 bucks.
I kept looking for a clearance 3000 to replace mine with a messed up spot in the screen and it's never really happened. I'm amazed at how well Vitas are holding value too considering it's a mostly failed system.
Yeah, I was hoping I'd be able to get a 32gb Vita card for like thirty bucks by now. Doesn't look like that train is coming in any time soon.
Vita memory cards are the worst.
Sony was such fucking jackhole with those stupid fucking proprietary memory cards. At least the Switch is nice enough not to make you spend the price of a triple a title just to get more storage space.
I decided to get rid of my Vita. I only really kept it for 6 to 7 games tops and a guy offered me more then I paid for it.
My PSP tho is a keeper. I have a lot of great games for it with a lot of replay value.
No, they just charge a triple a title and a half for a $15 dock.
Or $30 for a wall wart.
Or $70 for a controller.
Or $50 for a glorified Wii nunchuck.
I saw that $70 price tag for the Switch Pro controller and I nearly shat myself.
My local Walmart has a Splatoon 2 Switch bundle for $379. That's rediculous!
Yeah I won't lie that all the extra shit you can buy for the Switch is stupidly priced. At least I have a choice not to buy the shit. The only thing about the Vita I hated on that is you were forced to buy their brand only cards.; I know it's too soon but at least we'll have more 3rd party options for the Switch. The Hori Wired Controllers I saw at Walmart for the Switch were 26 bucks each so it's a step in the right direction.
@ Gamevet, Grats on Xenoblade but I'm still waiting to see Treasure Tracker from you soon!
I was so close. Fry's has the game with an Amiibo for $31. The store closest to my house has 5 of them.
Keep an eye on Nintendo's ebay store. They were selling the same package for $20 shipped.
The Ys VIII limited edition for Vita I don't remember ordering arrived.
My PS4 one came in, they did a really damn good job with the packaging, and the extras.
My PS4 Ys VIII hasn't shipped yet. My damn card got stolen and there's no way to change a credit card used for a preorder in PayPal. Luckily NIS holds it for a month while you try over and over to get them on the phone to fix it.
Doesn't a Paypal preorder charge at the time you preorder it? That's how it's worked the few times I've used it.
Weirdo dude traded in a PS Pro that he'd had for less than 2 weeks for less than I'd get selling my launch era PS4, so... now I've got a PS Pro. And now I'm wishing I deleted some of the crap I don't care about before beginning the data transfer. One more hour to go...
Cool, I'd like to hear some non-fanboy comparisons. Most of the people I know who got a pro mostly did it so they could masturbate to their 4K tvs, not really because they cared about the differences between the old and new models.
Well, I needed a cheap tv for the bedroom a couple of weeks ago and got that 55" TCL jam all the cheap nerds love. I have the xbone S hooked up to it currently, but maybe I should swap it and the Pro.
This is correct but paypal doesn't let you change the credit card you used to set up the pre-order. So if something happens to that card then when the charge finally goes through it just gets declined.
Just have them email you an invoice, that's what I did. I had a similar issue, a week or two before they began processing the orders my card was stolen, and I got a replacement. So I emailed NIS about it when my order went to process and they just emailed me an invoice I could pay through paypal how ever I wanted.

Is the stuff inside the LE actually worth the extra price for once? It looks better than most LEs.
TCL p605 at Best Buy or p607 at Amazon. Only difference is a few extras on the remote for $50 more for the Amazon model. The tvs are otherwise the exact same. So far I'm extremely pleased with it.
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/p-series-2017-p607
Do you know the model number?
nevermind, I looked it up.
The panel lacks local dimming and is sidelit. I'd spend the extra $50 on the Best Buy model.
For sure, $50 is worth that.
Celebrated 9-9-99 by finally picking up a Sega Dreamcast "Sega Sports" edition. I'd love it if I could lose that logo on the system easily. Still, it was cheap at 40 bucks complete.
Also picked up a Logitech Proteus Spectrum mouse and like it so far. I was beating up my G500 with a lot of Heroes of the Storm play so I thought I'd save it. I like the Proteus so far though.
Picking up Metroid 3DS and the amiibos this week as well.
Rocket Knight Adventures and Return of strider complete, together for 25
I passed on the iffy game and picked up the neato amiibo.

Metroid Metroid Metroid Stormtroopers. A good day.
(Game's great so far!)
I managed to find the time to drop by a Walmart in Stillwater, Oklahoma while I was traveling from site to site. They had Nier:Automata (Day One Edition), sitting on their clearance rack for $25.
Got some blu-rays for my birthday (Seven Samurai, One Upon a Time in the West, The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Hidden Fortress, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rashomon, The Lady Vanishes, and Rebecca), Metroid Returns 3DS, and Ys VIII PS4. I also pre-ordered a re-release of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and the GKids releases of Kiki's Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke. While I like the Pretty in Pink edition of Castle in the Sky (which has properly timed subtitles), it sounds like the GKids releases won't have dubtitles like the US Disney releases and are much cheaper than importing a JP Blu-ray.
If you're tuned to upcoming re-releases, you probably already know this, but just in case: the Miyazaki box set has the good subtitles instead of the Disney dubtitles:

I dropped a few hundred dollars on an area rug and a wall mirror. It feels weird spending money on stuff like that after decades of living in quiet austerity, but I guess I'm finally tired of living like a broke college student.
I remember how weird it felt to buy some art to hang on my wall.
Just got to work and there was a basketball sized box in front of the door. The Post office loves to leave packages outside the door where anyone coyld just grab it and walk away- instead of leaving a note that I had something to pick up at the post office, which is located RIGHT BEHIND the plaza I'm in. I had to contact Amazon and ask them to only ship ups or fedex because of this. I dont want to loose several hundred dollars because of a lazy postal worker.
So anyway, there's a box. Befuddled, I looked at the address. It's from my best friend. Now I'm really like wtf.
I got inside and opened it. There was a card and a wrapped present. Opened the card. It's clearly for a baby and says "Congrats! You're 1!" Inside he wrote, "I know you really wanted one but didn't want to spend the money so I got you one, too bad. Merry Christmas.
I opened the present, and it's an NES Classic.
I'm bugged on so many levels.
Thanks. I saw it on Amazon at a higher price and didn't expect it to be lower elsewhere because it was listed as an Amazon exclusive. The Castle of Cagliostro with it is also more bare bones than the US Blu-ray, which includes a new subtitle translation for the original JP audio, the streamline dub, two versions of the Manga dub, and a reconstruction of an early subtitle translation.
Yeah, Cagliostro is still worth hanging on to. Notably, I think that's the only movie in the set whose earlier Blu-ray release was handled by someone other than Disney. All the Disney replacements here are at least superior to their predecessors, even though it sounds like improved releases are on the way.
"Dubtitles" sounds like some nerd shit, but the difference is staggering. My wife, who loves Miyazaki but otherwise isn't into anime at all, maintains that Disney's Ponyo and box set Ponyo can't even be called the same movie. Disney depoliticized the heck out off it.
If I don't care about subtitles and just listen to the English dub, should I care?
Yeah, for Ponyo anyway. The dubtitles are transcripts of the English dub, and the English dub pussyfoots around the moments when Miyazaki miyazaks.
There's a moment in Ponyo, for example, where Ponyo's pappy talks about the ocean revolting against humans for what they've done to the environment. Disney totally defangs it in favor of something like "The world is scary." You only get the environmental bent in the box set subtitles.
Ponyo is loaded with moments like this. I know Mononoke uses dubtitles too, but I'm not sure if the difference is as pronounced.
Ponyo actually has proper subtitles on the standard blu-ray, but makes it so some settings can only be changed from the main menu. Once the movie is started, some settings aren't available from the menu or via remote. Japanese audio and the subtitles to go with it have to be set before starting the movie. It's more confusing than it should be. The main issue with Ponyo is the lossy JP audio. Too bad there isn't a Totoro Blu-ray with the Streamline dub. I prefer that over the Disney dub.
Thanks for this! I'll have to look to see what I have versus what I don't have and figure out if the set on ebay is worth picking up for me. I've been picking some up for around 15 each when they go on sale at Best Buy but I only have a few.
My daughter doesn't know who Miyazaki is, but she LOVES his movies. At 5 she doesn't understand how great some of these are, but she knows she saw something special.
