It has Vincent Price and Don Knots. It talks about God's love, love for others and death a whole lot. Its pretty dark, all things considered. No one I knew as a kid had ever seen this.
Another one, a slightly less obscure was the Dark Crystal. We had a copy that my dad taped off of HBO or some other paid channel. None of the kids I went to school knew about that one either. They probably wouldn't know about it until Disney channel played it a few times int he 90s. So for almost 10 years, I sounded like this crazy kid talking about gelflings
There were loads of cartoons that no one I knew had seen. Big Foot, Robotix, Gobots, Voltron III, inhumanoids, droids/ewoks, JEM, and probably others.

Heavy Metal and Blazzing Saddles. They probably knew of them but never saw them, because their parents actually cared.

I initially knew Aliens from the Dark Horse Comics and the toyine, so there was some playground confusion as to plot particulars.

All of my movie watching when I was young occured at my best friend’s house thanks to his dad’s humongous CED collection, so everything I saw, he saw first. I remember telling other kids how awesome Critters was.
I’ve been trying to get people to watch The Blood of Heroes starring Mr. Rutger Hauer since I was in my mid teens though.

I can't think of anything that you guys probably haven't heard of, but when I was a kid, none of my friends had any idea what I was talking about when I'd mention Wizards, Snake Fist of a Buddhist Dragon, or this weird violent cartoon that I can't remember the name of at the moment(I think it's a 70's movie, about 50's street punks/greasers).
These days I find almost nobody is familiar with The Wrong Guy, which is a shame because it's awesome.

We had cable as soon as you could get it, so probably 1979 or 1980. I remember loving this goofy ass movie about a cop developing super powers after getting exposed to a nuclear bomb or some shit. And every time he saw the color red he'd lose his powers. I can't remember the title, it's fucking killing me.
Also, this weird movie about an orphan chimney sweep in England, and the kid runs off for some reason and falls in the river and then it switches from live action to animation.

Happy Ghost 3 was a favourite with me and one of my friends, but until I started hanging out with chinese kids at college, nobody else I knew had ever heard of it.

Holy shit, I haven't seen that in years (the last time was probably on USA Up All Night or somthing), but I remember it being pretty great. It's on Amazon, so I'll have to watch it again soon.
I started reading the wiki page and was shocked to discover that Jugger is actually a "real" sport now. Germany even hosts international tournaments, lol.

saw it on tv late one night back in my early innocent teen days, and wasn't expecting there to exist a version of the muppet show where the muppets were all coked out degenerates

That movie, fuck. One of my friends found it at a rental store near his dad's house, he forced me to watch it.

It was a Jim Henson movie. I thought that all of the kids knew about that movie.
Mine probably was well know by the kids that had cable back then, but The Ice Pirates earned a mere $14 million in the box office and was considered another movie trying to tag along with the other Star Wars wannabes. It's comedy gold.

I didn't know a single kid that had watched it. I had an old copy my dad taped off of cinemax. On beta.

Ice Pirates was one of those movies that all us nerds knew about, but nobody else.
Same goes for Cherry 2000 and Solarbabies.

Are you talking like a decade after these movies came out?
The movie was pretty much known as well as the AC/DC song from the sound track. It was also a Stephen King movie, which were pretty popular in the 80's.

I remember watching Flight of the Navigator as a kid and it was amazing at the time, but nobody around here had even heard of it and so I never got to talk about it with anyone but my brother. I'd love to watch that again, I mentioned it to the wife a year or so ago and she'd never heard of it either. Same situation with The Last Starfighter (which she has since seen, holds up well!) Both were movies my dad rented from Wegmans (local grocery store).

I miss those kid sci-fi movies. The Last Starfighter is awesome. I still need to get the fanmade arcade game running on my PC one of these days.
I thought Batteries Not Included and The Explorers were great when I was a kid, too, but I've never rewatched them as an adult.

Explorers is great, until it isnt.
You can guess where it falls of the rails.
