New Look, Same Board - The Go! is Back!

I'll just get right to it since a. I am tired b. some of you already know what this is all about.

In order to provide a new look that's both refreshing (and to many, familiar), I've went back in time to recreate a theme that's easier on the eyes and provide you with an optional for something else to liven up your board experience.

Simply access your User CP Panel above, select Edit Options, and then scroll down and change your user style to "Go!"

I am sure you can draw conclusions from there on. Enjoy (especially those tired of blue!)

(and yes it's not EXACTLY like before, as far as color scheme, but close enough ne?) :D

Ya. the scheme is certainly a wee bit different. IMO, those colors were way too light. While the smilies look ok, the topic icons (namely our console types) don't seem to agree well with lighter colors. :(

But hey...I tried. ^_^

Nicely done. I did have a couple suggestions to make, but the next time I logged on they had already been taken care of.

Feels a bit strange to (more or less) be seeing the GG scheme again, though.

Cool, this brings back old memories :)

The only thing I noticed is some of the system logos don't show up well with the GO! colors but otherwise it is great.

Only thing I don't like about the GO! theme is that the links are nearly the same color as the text (until you mouse over them).

I'd suggest a link color that contrasts a little bit more with the body text.

hahahaa.......I love this box!!, before it was being gay and had me log in twice just to post, and then said I wasn't logged in again so it redirected me to some stupid screen!..but now! *schwing!* i'm posting quicker!
Those GO! screens really brought back those good ol' days, it was so saad when Go! shut down, Issue 1 still hangs on my wall in pride for all to see.!

Mode: Um, you can change things back yourself, I am not overriding the new scheme as default. If you want to see the Go! scheme, you just select it via your User CP panel, then go to Edit Options, select User Style.

But if you mean the current Go! scheme as it is...I regret that I will not be changing it back, for various reasons. Sorry.

I hate to bitch about it, but it's difficult to adjust from the perfection that was the former Go! scheme.

Mode: Seriously though...adjusting the color parameters was a pain. Initially my aim was to recreate a theme as close to the original colors as possible. However, I always found them to be a bit TOO bright (some like that, so...), I also had to take into account that a number of the icons used on this board were designed specifically for the old color scheme. :)

Here's one of those situations where the saying "you can't please everyone" applies.

Long story short, I ended up going with this scheme so that the links, icons and general text would all be easy to see. In your eyes, perfections is now tainted, for others, it's still refreshing from what we had before this all began. It's an adjustment and the option is there for you to take if you want it.

In case you haven't realized by now, I am not trying anymore to deliver "perfection", but if you want it... archive.org can satisfy you to your hearts desire.

Acheiving the colors "exactly" as it was for those of you that seem to be unable to function w/o the obvious differences isn't the problem. Getting a color scheme that bodes well with the topic icons, are. They were only developed to work with a dark color scheme. As it stands now, I been looking for some sort of medium in between.

It's not as easy as you think, and the complaining doesn't help me one bit. Mode7: If you want to discuss this more, you know how to reach me online. ;)

So, you have several choices, you can a. go back to the TNL scheme b. stick to whatever scheme officially becomes available from this c. (use your imagination)

I'm continuing to post here, in case you were wondering, in the hopes it might get others to share their views on this. Hell, I can't be the only one. It boggles my mind that after two pages or so of positive feedback to the original Go! design...

A) You changed it
B) Nobody really seemed to notice or mind

I've basically given up on the prospect of having the divine Go! scheme back, but please keep whatever you decide on relatively light.

that's no accident...I've only altered a few boards to be overrided (Gaming/Sound Off are generally the most visited of all the boards in general). This is just a temporary setting until I am done.

I'm sorry Bahn, but what the hell is the use of having a 'GameGo! theme' if it looks nothing like GameGo!...? Not only does it look nothing like GameGo!, but it looks like garbage outright. And don't act like it's breaks your little fingers to make the theme either, Andyrose made our Neomega GameGo! theme in a day and it looks exactly like GameGo!.

You're absolutely right. Once I am done tinkering with things, it will cease to be referred to as Gamego! It was a mistake to begin with... ;)

I already covered this before, but in case you're unable to read, basically what I was saying was that the main problem lies with the topic icons (many of them are only compatible with darker color schemes only).

Setting up the colors is easy, creating colors that will go well with these icons (so that <b>all</b> of them can be seen) is the problem. I was satisfied to a point, but decided to work on it some more. In the end, the effort was noble, but futile. I haven't seen the scheme set up there, but the fact he was able to import the icons is mainly because his board is not sharing icons throughout his site and the board itself.

Regretfully, I've been doing a number of other online tasks short of catering to the needs the board community, but I have been tinkering left and right. If I end up becoming fed up altogether, I'll just put things back to the way they were (and you DO have the option to deselect this theme in the meantime).

Indeed it was. You had the right idea before when you changed the name of the game forum from Gamego. TNL has become something completely different from Gamego as it was or TNL as it was before the merge. You recognized that, so your decision to bring back Go was baffling. I still get the impression it was more a good natured homage, and it wasn't meant to be anything more than that, but in this case, GameGo should stay dead.

Indeed it isn't. TNL is a reaction against that. Now anyone who voices any doubt whatsoever in todays game market is quickly jumped on and labeled a "hardcore" gamer. I'm surprised the old Squaregamer "HJOSL" thing hasn't been picked up yet. Elitism, anti-elitism, it's all the same.
