This one's about music CDs that have been Frankensteined for copy-protection. Some even fail to work in a normal CD player.
These CDs run a higher risk of being scratched. Clearly the greedy suits don't give a rat's ass about the customer.

eh someone will figure out how to rip those, give them time.
They have figured out a way to copy those copy-protected cd's
you take a black marker or some electical tape and line the very outter edge of the bottom of the CD. That is the track which is different colored on the outter rim. Cover that up and presto it works in PC cd-roms and can be copied. :D
If you search the net you can find an FAQ on the whole subject. I believe yahoo or CNN did a news article on it a few weeks ago.
this stuff's pretty anoying. recently i wanted to make a mix cd for one of my frineds that was going away for the summer. i wanted some songs from a couple of cd's that i own and i couldn't get it off of one of them. i was pretty pissed 'cause i know that my friend really enjoys the song and i wanted to surprise them with it. i really wish it wasn't like that. i know some people abuse the hell out of cd burners (burnin' games etc.) but i wish things didn't end up like this.

All I can say is start fussing at your congressmen about stuff like this or it will likely get worse. Much worse.
I wonder who decided that making a product less appealing to a customer than it was years ago would somehow thwart Internet piracy.

Ah. But it's only the start of a long term plan to take away our ability to make hard copies of anything my friend. Check out the rescent thread I made in Sound Off a while back for details.

I reiterate that these FRANKENSTEINED CDs are more prone to scratches. These guys have fucked with the original CD format and this has its consequences.
If somebody gave me a mix CD and it had a song on it that I liked, I'd go out and buy the CD to support this artist (regrettably they don't make jack from the sale).
I shudder to think what would happen if Fritz Hollings were to become president someday... then we would have a "Corporate Dictatorship" with Hollings as a rich man's Fidel Castro. Is George Orwell going to be right someday? :confused:
